Daryl C. Eddy
May 27, 1972 - October 22, 2015

Daryl C. Eddy, 43, of Austin, TX, died October 22, 2015, as a result of a brief illness. 

He was born May 27, 1972, in Bay City, TX, the son of Joe and Gloria Eddy. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1990, and joined the Navy, immediately after graduation, serving for 20 years, before retiring.

Daryl is survived by his step-father, Jay Lundgren and mother, Gloria Eddy of Austin; sister, Joray Lawson, and nephew, Justin Lawson, also of Austin; and his son, Conner Eddy of Silverdale, Washington. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

His father, Joe C. Eddy, preceded him in death.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Affordable Burial & Cremation .  The details of his funeral are not yet available.

Alfred Joseph Eggemeyer
(June 12, 1951 - July 23, 2015)

Alfred Joseph “Freddy” Eggemeyer, 64, of Palacios passed away Thursday July 23, 2015. He was born June 12, 1951 in Palacios, TX to Wilbard Frank and Vera Shimek Eggemeyer. Freddy was a life-long resident of Matagorda County and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Freddy is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Haley Kristen Garcia (Jasper) of Palacios; sons Brady Del Eggemeyer of Royce City, TX and Zane Scott Eggemeyer of Cleveland, TX; sister Jeanette Schneider (Glenn) of Blessing; brothers Victor Leroy Eggemeyer (Mable), Gene Wilbard Eggemeyer (Paige) of Palacios, Edmund Victor “Butch” Eggemeyer (Sharon) of Victoria and Norbert John Eggemeyer (Edie) of El Campo; grandchildren Nevin, Keegan and Corynn Garcia, Tiffany, Amber, Ryan and Makinley Eggemeyer, Chelsea Eggemeyer, Kali McCord, Erin Ellison, Tyson and Danielle Cabarubio, Benjamin Brennan and Liam Brennan; step-children Terri Cabarubio (Allen), Leslie Brennan, Dean Brennan (Samara) and Matt Brennan (Annie); and very special friend Mary Lou Brennan.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00-6:00pm Sunday, July 26 at Palacios Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 6:00pm. Funeral mass will be 10:00am Monday, July 27, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Fr. Bryan Heyer officiating. A graveside service followed by interment will be at 1:30 that same afternoon at Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo. Pallbearers are Vance Eggemeyer, Wes Schneider, Cutris Eggemeyer, Greg Eggmeyer, Jason Gibson and Justin Eggemeyer. Honorary pallbearers are Nevin Garcia, Keegan Garcia and Ryan Eggemeyer.

Bennie T. Elliott Service in Palacios

PALACIOS—Funeral services for Bennie T. Elliott, 56, were held in Palacios from the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susie Elliott, one son, Jack Ray of Palacios, one daughter Mrs. Perry Everett, Jr. of La Marque.

Mr. Elliott, a resident of the Carancahua community for the past 32 years, had moved with his wife to La Marque, where they lived with their daughter, Mrs. Everett, due to Mr. Elliott’s failing health.

Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Stillman Winfield of Palacios and Mrs. Hilding Swenson of Hitchcock and one brother, Raymond Elliott of Austin.

Katherine P. Bundick Mock Elliott
Feb. 1, 1935 - March 29, 2006

Funeral services for Katherine Mock Elliott, 71, of Bay City, Texas were scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas. She died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Herman Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Burial will followed in Roselawn Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.

Visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Pallbearers will be Hairl E. Bundick, Charles "Junior" Bundick, Paul Bundick, Bill Bundick, Gary Matthews, and Robert Hurley.

Honorary pallbearers will be her brothers; and friend, James Bryant.

Katherine, "Tiddle", as she was known to family and friends, was born in Pledger, Texas on February 1, 1935 to Charles Leonard Bundick II and Mamie Violet Bundick.

She and her husband, Clarence Mock owned and operated the Caney Creek Store in Sargent, Texas for many years. She was also a long-time employee of Luby's Cafeteria in Lake Jackson, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Mock in 1977; husband, Max Elliott in 1981; and several brothers.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Judy Mock of Brazoria; daughter and son-in-law, Dena and Rodney Matthews of Cedar Lane; sisters, Reathel Billiott of LaPorte and Pauline Norrell of Lake Jackson; brothers, Charles Bundick of LaPort and Dan Bundick, Sr. of Brazoria; grandchildren, Nancy Kaye Hurley and husband, Robert; Alan Matthews and wife, Marion; Beth Ann Brooks, Jeremiah Brooks and wife, Amanda; Jerry Beck and wife, Janelle of Mississippi; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Rites Set For Crash Victim – Chester Ellis

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. at the First Pentecostal Church in Bay City for Homer Chester Ellis, 45.

Ellis, who lived at 3209 Sixth Street, Bay City, died as result of injuries sustained in a two-car auto crash near Van Vleck Tuesday.

Services will be under direction of the Rev. Martin S. Cole. Interment will be in the Stafford Cemetery at Stafford.

Ellis is survived by his wife, Mrs. Noble Ellis, and one son, Mike Ellis, 5, of Bay City; three sisters, Mrs. Hettie Finch of Agua Dulce; Mrs. Von Cannon of Greggton and Mrs. O. T. Davis of Van Vleck, and a brother, Bruce, also of Van Vleck.

Mrs. Caroline Engle

Services were held Wednesday morning in the Episcopal Church at Bay City for Mrs. Caroline Engle, who died at the Loos hospital Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. Paul Engle.

Taylor Bros. were in charge of arrangements and the pallbearers were George Harrison, of Palacios, F. A. Bates, A. Harris, Paris A. Smith, C. B. Robertson and A. D. Magruder.

Mrs. Engle, age 75 years, eight months and 26 days, was born in York, Penn., April 9, 1861. She has resided in Palacios for a number of years and has many friends over the entire county who join the Beacon in extending sympathy to those who are left to mourn.

The body was sent to York, Penn. for burial, accompanied by Rev. Engle, who will return home the last of the week.

Mrs. Engle was the mother of Mrs. C. G. Jeffres, of this city and we join her many friends in extending sympathy.

Edith Erkeling
April 18, 1935 - March 6, 2015

A memorial service will be held for Edith Erkeling, at 3:30 p.m., March 13, 2015, at the Cemetery Chapel in Freiolsheim, Germany.

Interment will be at the family grave, at the city cemetery, in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Edith was born on April 18, 1935, in Moravia Ostrava, Czechoslovakia, and died March 6, 2015, in Freiolsheim, Germany.

Edith was married to Guenter, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Dieter Erkeling and two granddaughters, Katharina Erkeling and Jessica Erkeling of Karlsruhe, Germany; sister, Brigitta M. Lehmann and husband Richard K. Lehmann of Bay City; sister, Ingrid Sedlacek of Karlsruhe, Germany; three nephews, Richard C. Lehmann and his wife Karen of Broussard, LA, Michael P. Lehmann and his wife Tracy of New Braunfels, TX and Roland L. Lehmann and his wife Amy of Bay City, TX; five grand-nephews, Karl M. Lehmann of New Orleans, LA, Kimberly L. Lehmann of New Iberia, LA, Christopher S. Lehmann and Nicholas A. Lehmann, of New Braunfels, TX and Terence McKee Lehmann of Bay City, TX.

Donations may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, in lieu of flowers.

Pearle Huff Erwin

After a lengthy illness, Pearle Huff Erwin, 91, passed on to be with her Lord and Saviour on August 29, 2004, at her residence in Bay City.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and an avid genealogist, researching her Bankhead and Choate family history. She was very proud of her status as a member of one of Texas' First Families.

She loved to travel and was a volunteer at the Bay City Public Library. She had retired from Bay City Bank & Trust as vice-president after thirty-five years of service.

Mrs. Erwin was married to Jack Erwin who preceded her in death, as did her parents, Mattie Bankhead Gore and Nester Huff and her step-father, John Gore, of Markham. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and William Huff of California.

She is survived by: two aunts, Mazie Whitmore of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Cordelia Bankhead of Sulphur, Louisiana, by hosts of loving cousins, more particularly A. R. "Sonny" Bankhead and his wife Winnie, Elizabeth Myers and Janet Mullins of Markham and Joan and John Dickerson of Bay City, and by her very dear friend "Boo" Neary of Bay City.

A prayer service for Herlinda Escobedo, 70, of Bay City will be held at 7:30 pm Thursday, June 3, 1999 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 10 am Friday, June 4 at Emanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Candido Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Mrs. Escobedo died May 31 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.  She was born Sept. 21, 1928 to the late Sotero and Martha Hinojosa.  She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church and a resident of Bay City since 1969.

Mrs. Escobedo is survived by her husband, Noe Escobedo, Sr. of Bay City; two daughters and sons--in-law, Rosa and Lucio Castro and Angelica and Baltazar Vega of Bay City; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Luis and Pabla Garza of El Campo, Noe and Mandy Escobedo, Jr. and Javier Escobedo all of Bay City; sisters, Celia Garza of Ferris, Tex., Amelia Alvarez, Antonia Lozono and Veva Del Gardo all of Brownsville, and Angelica Blanco of Dallas; one brother, Emelino Hinojosa of Brownsville; 14 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Raul Hinojosa.  Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Passing of Mary Berniece Estes

Mary Bernice Estes, aged 12 years, passed away Tuesday night at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Estes.

Little Berniece had been ailing for several months but had not been confined to her home, being regular in attendance at school and Sunday school even to the last Sunday of her earthly existence, when she was apparently as well as usual. Her death two days later came as a severe shock to her parents and schoolmates.

Berniece was of a sweet sunny disposition, considerate of the feelings of others, helpful. cheery and a general favorite both with those in her grade and others. She was a member of the fifth grade and the pallbearers were chosen from among her little classmates, the other members attending in body.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday afternoon by the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Goodenough assisted by Rev. Mr. Echols. Interment was made in the Palacios cemetery.

And with his sickle keen
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath
And the flowers that grow between.

'Shall i have naught that is fair,' said he,
'Have naught but the bearded grain?

Jerry Wayne Etgen
(September 21, 1965 - June 17, 2007)

Jerry Wayne Etgen, 41, of Bay City, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007. He was born September 21, 1965 in Waco, TX to Marvin Etgen and Lilla Pauline Caldwell Etgen. He was a resident of Bay City for the past 37 years and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Bay City. He attended the Edith Armstrong Workshop for the Mentally Handicapped, was an avid participant in the Special Olympics, was a former Bay City Volunteer Fire Dept. Mascot and enjoyed camping and the outdoors.

He is survived by his mother: Pauline Etgen; brothers: David Michael Etgen and Marvin Paul Etgen; grandmother: JoAn Caldwell; uncle: Jerry M. Caldwell, all of Bay City; and his aunt: Coco Caldwell of Victoria. He was preceded in death by his father: Marvin Etgen; by his grandparents: Otha Caldwell, Willie and Emma Etgen; and his aunt: JoAnn Etgen.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Morgan and Bro. Steve Sieben officiating. Pallbearers will be Randy Frontz, A.T. Richardson, Harvey Bennett, J.R. Black, Robert Etgen, Jeff Elliott, Pete Hale and Greg Crain. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Caldwell and members of the Bay City Volunteer Fire Dept.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or to the ARC of Matagorda County.

Funeral Services For Tex Ethridge To Be Held Today

Funeral services for Robert George (Tex) Ethridge will be held at the Palacios Funeral Home Thursday, November 1, (today) at 3:30 p. m. with the Rev. N. F. Dunning conducting.

Mr. Ethridge, born July 27, 1894, died in the Veterans Hospital in Temple Wednesday, October 31.

Buried will be in the Palacios Cemetery.

Mary Frances Evans
(June 24, 1918 - October 5, 2014)

Mary Frances Harden Evans was born in Water Valley, Texas on June 24, 1918 and passed away in Sugar Land, Texas on October 5, 2014.

Frances was an active and dedicated member of the church of Christ since 1932. Frances was an elementary school teacher during the 1940's, and then she began the happiest years of her life when she became a wife to her husband, Hershal, and then a mother to her three beloved children. She was married to her husband for 50 years until his death in August 1994. She loved all her extended family as well; the reunions and special occasions that brought them together for fellowship and good times were especially meaningful to her. Frances was extremely talented in the kitchen providing excellent home cooked meals throughout her married life. She also was quite skilled at sewing and quilting which she enjoyed throughout her life. Frances was also a talented horticulturalist with a particular knack for nurturing plants and flowers in her garden. One of her favorite pastimes was enjoying good movies that told interesting and informative stories.

Frances lived for many years in the piney woods of East Texas before relocating to Sweeny, Texas where she has resided for the past 43 years.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles and Geneva Harden; sisters, Charlene, Esther, Betty; brother, Thaylor Harden; and husband, Hershal Evans.

Frances is survived by her brother, Philip (Barbara) Harden; her three children, Michael Evans, Nancy Denty and Melinda (Steve) Laman; grandchildren Brad Evans, Aaron Evans, Lauren Laman, Joanna Meeks and Evan Laman along with 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service commemorating her life will be held at the Sweeny church of Christ on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. which will be preceded by a visitation period which will begin at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, October 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the New Salem Cemetery, New Salem, Texas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Evans, Aaron Evans, Evan Laman, Allan Meeks, Dustin Matthews and Steve Laman.

The family would like to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude and appreciation the excellent care provided to Mrs. Evans during her recent illness by the doctors and associated health care professionals at the 1) Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, 2) the Advanced Wound Care Clinic within that hospital and 3) the South Texas Vascular Center, Sugar Land, Texas. The family would also like to thank Angels Care Home Health, Bay City, Texas for the supportive care they provided to Mrs. Evans in her home during this same period.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Frances' name may be made to a charity of one's choice, or to the Bandina Christian Youth Camp.
