Tami Lynn George Dabney
July 19, 1983 - July 17, 2016

Tami Lynn George Dabney, 32, of Fayetteville, NC, was born July 19, 1983, in Bay City, TX.

She passed away after a short illness at UNC, NC on July 17, 2016.

She is survived by her husband, SSG William Dabney, U.S. Army; three children, Emma, Nicole and Connor of Fayetteville, NC; mother, Robin Davis; father and step-mother, Russell and Jacqueline Davis; two sisters, Michelle (George) Zogg and Kacye Davis; in-laws, Marvin and Renee Dabney, Vickie and Clay Hamlyn; grandparents, Marie George, A.C. and Bernice Davis, and Betty Cooke; and many cousins and friends.

She graduated from BCHS in 2001, where she was in the Band, Flag-team and Drama club. She graduated from WCJC in 2005 as an LVN. She worked at STMC in Wharton and Girling Home Health, until her husband joined the army and moved away. While at Ft. Polk, she was Co-Leader for the Family Readiness Group. She was currently employed at Hobby Lobby in Fayetteville, NC.

She had an infectious love of life and helping others.

Frank Dacke
(December 20, 1937 - June 17, 2016)

Franklin Gordon Dacke, 78, of Bay City passed away June 17, 2016. He was born December 20, 1937 in Goliad, Texas to the late Clyde Bee Dacke and Lorene Pearl Allman Dacke.

Frank was a hard-working man all of his life. He taught his nieces and nephews the importance of that and to “Always wear a smile.” They remember his teaching them to say “God Bless You” to anyone who angered you and then walk away.

He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Smith and brothers Robert Arliss Dacke and Clyde Henry Dacke. Survivors include sister Doris Norman; brothers Arliss Dacke and Jimmy Dacke; nieces Janet C. Hyde, Tammy Brewer, Ann Norman, Layla Brewer and Kaila Hyde; nephews Franklin James Dacke, John Norman, Dustin Norman, Michael Brewer, Hunter H. Hyda and Robert Nichols and brother-in-law David Smith.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 1PM until 2PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Kent Mitchell Dacke

11 October 1963 – 2 August 2016

LANEXA, VA - Kent Mitchell Dacke, 52, passed away August 2nd, 2016 at his home in Lanexa, Virginia from complications related to heart disease. He was born October 11th, 1963 in Bay City, Tx.

He was a 1982 graduate of Industrial High School and a 1984 graduate of TSTI in Waco, Tx.

He is survived by his daughter, Kira, of Waco Tx, his father, Charles of Lolita, brothers Gary of Newark, Tx and Steven of Cedar Park, Tx.

He was preceeded in death by a brother, Casey Charles, his mother, Peggy Carol, maternal grandparents Oren and Lillian Huff of Liberty, Ms and paternal grandparents E.B. and Ann Burford Dacke of Cedar Lane, Tx

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Lolita, Tx on Saturday September 3rd 2016 at 2pm.

Velma Ann “Skudy” Damuth
April 30, 1932 - July 25, 2016

Velma Ann “Skudy” Damuth, 84, of El Campo, Texas, passed away peacefully July 25, 2016, in Wharton, Texas.

She was born April 30, 1932 in Pierce to the late Otto P. and Annie M. Bennetsen Koehler. She was retired from HEB in Bay City, where she was a checker for 23 years. She was an avid gardener that loved any and all flowers. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by daughter, Diane Ezzi and husband Jerry of Alvin; granddaughter, Lisa Snow and husband Scott of Bulverde; grandchildren, Merit, Laurel and Logan Snow of Bulverde; sisters, Katherine Blair of Glen Flora and Mary Lou Will of El Campo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Eugene Koehler; sisters, Pauline Klatt, Gertrude Koehler and Pearl Maness.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016, at Wheeler Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wharton.

Rodney Wayne Dannelley
October 28, 1965 - October 19, 2016

Rodney Wayne Dannelley, 50, of Van Vleck, Texas, passed away Wednesday October 19, 2016

Rodney was born October 28, 1965 in Mobile, Arizona to Edward and Rosie Blair Dannelley.

Rodney was a quadraplegic for over 30 years. He always had a positive and happy attitude, and would see the best in others no matter what. Finally, on this day in October, he was able to walk through the gates of Heaven. How happy he must be.

Rodney is preceded in death by his brother, James (Jim) Edward Dannelley .

He is survived by his parents, Ed and Rosie Dannelley of  Van Vleck; sister, Tammy Quinn of Pearland, Texas; sister-in-law, Nancy Dannelley of Van Vleck; niece, Seina Bradford and husband Lane of Palacios, Texas;  nephews, James and Michael Dannelley of Van Vleck; and his soul mate and brother of the heart of 30 years, Mark Jacobs.

The family will receive relatives and friends, Sunday, October 23, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Services will be at 3 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2016,  at the First Baptist Church in Van Vleck with the Rev. Bob Hobbs and Brother Jim Hardaway officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.

Pallbearers are Lane Radford, James Dannelley, Mark Jacobs, Neil Richardson, Brandon Richardson and Roger Hood.

Funeral services were pending today for Augusta Clovas Darnell, 70, of Midfield at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Darnell, who died in Matagorda General Hospital, was a former Matagorda County employee.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Ella Neuman, Midfield; Mrs. Lucille Howe, Phoenix; Mrs. Pearl Prevost, Alice; Mrs. Mildred Morrison, Oklahoma City; four sons, Leland Darnell and George Darnell, both of Oklahoma City; Kenneth Darnell, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lather Darnell, San Antonio; two brothers, Andrew Darnell, Houston; Boyd Darnell, Port Lavaca.

Connie B. Darnell

VANDERBILT—Funeral services for Mrs. Connie B. Darnell, 77, of Vanderbilt will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday from Slavik Chapel.

Burial will be in the Midfield Cemetery, under direction of Slavik Funeral Home of Edna.

Mrs. Darnell was born Feb. 24, 1895, in Atascosa County, and had lived in this county for 15 years. She died Sunday in a Victoria hospital.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Steve Neuman of Vanderbilt, Mrs. Pearl Prebost of Colorado City, Tex., Mrs. M. L. Morrison of Midwest City, Okla.; two sons, Leland and Kenneth, both of Houston; five sisters, Mrs. Will Fitch of Edna, Mrs. Maggie McGarity of Victoria, Mrs. Birdie O’Neal of Smiley, Mrs. Meadie Sawyer and Mrs. Gracie McLamore, both of Cuero; a brother, Melvin Keith; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth James Darnell, 38, a resident of Victoria passed away June 20 in Victoria. Survivors include: 3 sisters, Mrs. Milburn Morrison of Midwest City, Okla., Mrs. Pearl Provost of Hawaii and Mrs. Ella D. Neuman of Bay City; 1 brother, Lee Darnell of Alvin. Kenneth Darnell

Funeral services for Kenneth James Darnell, 38, of 801 E. Convent St., will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Burial will be in Midfield Cemetery. The Rev. Thomas Horn will officiate at the services.

Mr. Darnell, an employee of the H. B. Zachery Construction Co., was killed in a one-car accident Thursday near the intersection of the Old Bloomington Road and McCoy Road.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Milburn Morrison of Midwest City, Okla., Mrs. Pearl Prevost of Hawaii and Mrs. Ella Neuman of Bay City, and one brother, Lee Darnell of Alvin.

EDNA—Lathy Darnell, 53, of Cordele died Thursday in a San Antonio hospital.

Mrs. Darnell was born Feb. 14, 1941 in Cordele.

Mrs. E. E. Dawdy

Mrs. E. E. Dawdy who passed away at her home in this city on November 1, 1944, was  born Sarah Elizabeth Wheeler on July 23, 1872, in Matagorda County, Texas.

She was married to E. E. Dawdy on Nov. 7, 1894 and to this union three children were born, one son who died in infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. Bert Lenz, of Victoria and Mrs. Frank Merrill of Denver, Colo., who with one sister, Mrs. Mary Bell, of Palacios, two brothers, Will Wheeler, of Rockport and Ben Wheeler of Wadsworth, seven grandchildren and four great grand-children and a number of nieces and nephews survive.

Mrs. Dawdy was a member of the Baptist Church and for many years gave herself unstintingly to Sunday school work and other activities in her church, but ill health caused her to give up this joy. She lived a consecrated Christian life true to her faith.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning conducted by Rev. L. W. Crouch of the First Baptist Church and burial made in the Hawley cemetery near Blessing, beside her husband who preceded her in death, Dec. 6, 1943.

The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in Palacios and other parts of the county.

David Day

Mr. Day, who was Mrs. Jim Fitzgerald’s father, passed away in Bay City last Saturday morning at eight o’clock, after a long lingering illness in the hospital there, and was buried here that afternoon. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Broom of Bay City, the pastor of the Baptist church. May God comfort the sad ones who are left.

Fred Diaz Jr.

 

Funeral services for Fred Diaz, Jr. age 80 of Palacios were held Sept. 14 at Living Word Church with Rev. JD Diaz, Jr. officiating.

 

Fred was born February 26, 1936 in Old Gulf, Texas to the late Fred Diaz, Sr. and Bessie Gatica and passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016.

 

He is survived by his wife, Sadie Diaz of Palacios; daughter, Rosalinda Diaz of Palacios; son, Jose “Joey” Nasario (Gloria) Diaz of Arlington; sisters, Alvesa Bessie Diaz (Raymond) Gonzales of Victoria and Susan Diaz (Tony Jr.) Galvan of Blessing, Texas; brothers, Robert (Emilie) Diaz of Edna and Randy (Herlinda) Diaz of LaPorte. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, sons, Fred “Freddy” Diaz III, Mario Diaz, and Larry Diaz; sisters, Dora Diaz Servantes and Gloria Diaz; brothers, Rudy, Ernest, Tony, and Lupe Diaz.

 

Pallbearers were Fred Diaz IV, William Diaz, Mario Diaz, Jr. Larry Diaz, Jr., Kody Freeze and David J. Alamia. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Vargas, Sr., Mykah Vargas, Matthias Vargas, Xaiden D’Marquis Vargas, Mark Bladen Vargas III, Deborah Alamia, Noel Alamia, Andrew Freeze, Anderson Freeze, and Jett Diaz.

 

Services were held under the direction of Artero Memorial Chapels in Port Lavaca.

Lydia Ann Diaz
September 6, 1961 – July 1, 2016

Lydia Ann Diaz, 54, of Bay City, Texas, passed away July 1, 2016, at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She was born September 6, 1961, in Bay City, Texas. Her parents were the late Castulo and Margarita B. Carrion. She was married to Javier Diaz, was a housewife and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Lydia loved to play and coach volleyball. Volleyball was a big part of her life and she played for many years. She also had a passion for retail and had a couple of second hand stores that she owned in different times of her life. She loved to have a good time and was the life of the party. She also loved to go fishing, to garden and to crochet, but later in life her illness prevented her from enjoying these activities. She enjoyed spending time with her cousins, especially Anna Vega, and her aunt whom she loved as a second mother, Tia Lupe Benavides.

Yet the greatest part of her life was dedicated to her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Seeing them grow and trying to teach them to play volleyball made her very happy.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves to mourn, her husband of 30 years, Javier Diaz; daughters, Maggie Monroy of Bay City, Sister Maria del Rosario Resendez of Victoria, and Christi Lara (Ricardo) of Bay City; granddaughters, Alexis, Karla and Angela (Gigi) Monroy; grandsons, Ricardo Jr. and Christian Lara; siblings, John Benavides (Sylvia), Rosemary Montalvo (Greg), Clara Hurtado (Abel), Patricia Benavides, and Lupe Machado (Benny). She is also survived by her brother-in-law, whom she loved like a brother, Bruno Diaz; her very special niece, Susie Brito; and many more family and friends.

Visitation was held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City, with the rosary at 6 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City, Texas, with Father Greg Korenek to officiate.

Interment to follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Pallbearers are John Benavides, Ricardo Lara, Arnulfo Hinojosa, Terrance Flagg, Alex Elizondo and Enrique Brito.

Honorary pallbearers are Brett Pomeroy, Phil Petty and Luis Enrique Lara.

Phillip Diaz, 70, of Palacios passed away January 14, 2017. He was born June 17, 1946 in Bay City, Texas to the late Antonio Diaz and Annacita Robles Diaz.

Survivors include daughter Cynthia Ann Diaz; son Jimmy Diaz; brother Antonio Diaz and grandchildren Sandra Diaz, Suzana Diaz, Samantha Q. Diaz, Maria Diaz, Michael D. Diaz, Jimmy Diaz, Jr., Joey Diaz, Maggie Diaz, April Carrizalez, Adam Diaz, Zeke Guajardo, and Isiah Lejia.

Dorothy Cole Dietrich

January 12, 1928 - January 14, 2017

Dorothy Cole Dietrich was born to the late David William and Lillian Loftin Cole January 12, 1928 in Bay City, Texas.

She passed away January 14, 2017 in Bay City, Texas.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and a lifetime member of the 100 Club.  She was Matriarch of her family, the family she adored and loved more than life itself.  She enjoyed gardening, fishing, dancing, and especially cooking.  She was known for her famous crab rolls and dewberry cobbler.  She loved entertaining and enjoyed being surrounded by people.  She had fabulous Christmas parties and many other parties, including informal fish fries, barbecues and crawfish boils.  Friends and family were always looking forward to getting invitations to these events.  She and Hadden had many good times with friends and family at their summer camp at Chinquapin overlooking East Matagorda Bay.  The grandchildren Zac and Shelby loved it and enjoyed going out in the pontoon boat fishing, swimming and ski bobbing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Burkhart Hite and Lillian Cole Milberger; and brothers, William, Jenoye, Jack, John, Waddie and David William Cole Jr.

She is survived by the love of her life, Hadden M. Dietrich Sr., her husband for over 66 years; her beloved sons, Hadden Dietrich Jr. and wife Kathy of Katy, and Cole Dietrich of Houston; grandchildren, Zachary David Dietrich of McKinney, Texas and Shelby Dietrich Vinson and husband Richard of Midlothian, Texas; great grandchildren, Katherine Cole Vinson and Leah Cheryl Vinson; sister, Annie Lee Jones; and brother, Rosser Moody Cole of Bay City; nephews, Roland, Gerald, Eugene, Randy, Lee, David, Raymond, Roy and Allen Cole, Wayne, Arthur and Bryan Milberger; nieces, Barbara Sue Spacek, Pat Davis, Carolyn Earnest, Marsha De La Riva, Pam Svetlik, Mary Ellen Milberger, Dianne Rooth, Terri Striebeck and Judy Metcalf; and many great nephews and nieces.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Thursday January 19, 2017, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m., at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, with the Rev. Greg Korenek officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.

Joyce Lorene Dove

(February 2, 1928 - December 22, 2016)

Joyce Lorene Pahmiyer Dove, 88, of Bay City, went to be with the Lord on Dec 22, 2016. She was born Feb 2, 1928, in Cuero, TX to Albert and Bea Pahmiyer. Joyce attended Cuero High School and Baldwin Business College. She married Tommie L. Dove of Yoakum, TX at her parent’s home in Cuero on December 20, 1949. Joyce was a devoted loving Christian woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was full of spunk when around family and friends, she was also known to have a stubborn streak, but laughter and being joyful were her gifts.

Joyce is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Tommie; parents Albert and Bea Pahmiyer; sister Kathryn Parker and her beloved dog CoCo. She is survived by her dog Walter; daughters Brenda Dove of Houston and Gaynell King (Bob) of Bay City; grandchildren Kevin King of San Marcos, Craig King of Austin and Kirstan Williams (Don) of Portland, OR; great grandchildren Sydney, Bella, Nolan, Eli and Evan Williams of Portland.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff and employees of Matagorda Nursing & Rehab Center for their love and support of Joyce, and Doctors Hanna and Lewis, and Houston Hospice for their care of our Mother.

Timothy Andrew "Tad" Dykes

Timothy Andrew Dykes (known as Tad to his family & Tim McCoy to his radio/television family) passed away February 20, 2017 in Portland, TX. He was born March 14, 1957 in Bay City, TX to the late I.Z. and Bobbie Duffy Dykes.

Tad graduated from Bay City High School in 1975. Tim followed his dream graduating in 1980 from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Radio, Television & Film.

Tad began his career in Houston with KAUM Radio. He loved living near the water so he moved to Galveston where he worked for KILE Radio. Tad rode out Hurricane Alicia in 1983 at the radio station in Galveston. He had a Bob Seger song cued up when the station lost power. Tad moved to Corpus Christi in 1985 and worked for KITE/KLKC Radio, KMXR Radio, KIII-TV and Malkan Production.

Tad's family loved hearing his voice on the radio spots he shared with them. He also did the voices of Walter Cronkite & Clint Eastwood but only with his family. Tad was a Los Angeles sports fan his entire life. The Rams, Dodgers & Lakers have lost their biggest fan. Tim was literally a walking encyclopedia of sports knowledge so he was his sisters' "go to" guy for anything sports related.

Tad was the proud father of two daughters & the proud grandfather of two beautiful little girls. Survivors include daughters Taylor Ann Dykes, Shelby Suzanne Picha, her husband Daniel & granddaughters Isabella Maria & Abby Corina; sisters Julia Winicki & her husband Walt, Vicki Dykes, Cindy Williams & her husband Allen; nephew Darren Hussey; niece Megan Miller & her husband Ian; great-niece Addison Glass; great-nephews Leo Glass & Griffin Miller.

On Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM, family & friends will gather at the pavilion at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing to share memories & bid Tad farewell.

Memorials may be made to Sam Houston State University or your charity of choice.
