A. L. Dyer was born August 28, 1872, in Tazewell, Tennessee, and passed to his eternal rest on September 6, 1941. He grew to manhood and was educated in Tennessee. He married Nancy Jane Minton in 1896. To this union five children were born; one died in infancy. Mr. Dyer followed the profession of teaching school for 20 years, when he retired due to ill health. He came to Texas with his family in 1904. He lived in and near the community of Blessing since 1912 until the death of his wife in 1928. Since then he has made his home with his children. Mr. Dyer was very well read. He had a keen mind and a retentive memory, and therefore a comprehensive grasp of facts—educational, political, etc. During his lifetime he was keenly interested in the affairs of the world. He was honest in all his dealings and in all his ways; he was quiet and sincere and made friends wherever he went. The sympathy of the community goes out to the children and relatives. Rev. George F. Gillespie and Rev. J. E. Mack had charge of the funeral service which was held in the Palacios Funeral Home on September 8th. Taylor Brothers had charge of arrangements. The remains were laid to rest in Palacios Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his passing his four children: Jimmie Dyer, Houston, Curtis Barlow Dyer, Corpus Christi, Mrs. G. W. Anderson, Galveston, Mrs. C. D. McConnell, Palacios; seven grandchildren and a host of friends. Out of town relatives and friends to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Dyer and son, Jimmie, of Houston; C. B. Dyer, Corpus Christi; Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Anderson and daughters, Velma and Wilma, of Galveston, Mrs. Lee Nelson and son, Charles, of Galveston, and a number of Blessing friends.

The Blessing people were both shocked and grieved at the death of our good friend, Mrs. A. L. Dyer no Wednesday night, July 25. Mrs. Dyer had been sick only two days and was believed to be improved but suddenly Wednesday night took a turn for the worse and died about midnight with congestion of the stomach. Interment was made in the Palacios cemetery on Friday afternoon. Many beautiful flowers were laid by loving hands on the last resting place of this good friend who had scattered so many flowers along her way. Left to mourn her los are her husband, A. L. Dyer, Blessing; two daughters, Mrs. Chas. McConnell of Palacios, Mrs. Geo. Anderson, Port Aransas and two sons, Jim of Kingsville and Barlowe of Blessing.
