BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] -- Sylvia Norwood Dancer, 95, of Bay City, died Saturday, March 2, 2002. She was born Oct. 9, 1906, in Avenger, to the late Samuel Columbus and Lucy Morgan Norwood. She was a retired bookkeeper and a Methodist.

Survivors: daughter, Stella Crasse of Bay City; son, James Dancer of Bay City; sisters, Joyce Petersen and Hazel Ray, both of Bay City; brothers, Hardy Norwood of Kingwood and John Thomas Norwood of Hamshire; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by: husband, Ernest Ray Dancer; parents; and sister, Violet Mooney.

Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Joe Ramsey officiating.

Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, 979-245-4613.

E. R. “Ray” Dancer

Services will be held for E. R. “Ray” Dancer, 76, of Markham at 2 pm Tuesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.  Officiating will be the Rev. G. Wayne Wilson.

Dancer died June 12, 1983 at his residence in Markham.

Survivors include wife, Sylvia Dancer of Markham; daughter, Stella Grasse of Bay City; son, James Dancer; sister, Mrs. Charlie Tyler of West Columbia; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Burial followed services at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers include Sam Ray, Marvin Dabney, Michael Jones, Raymond Jones Jr., Emil Sliva Jr. and Wayne Murphree.

Pearl Bradford Davis

Services for Mrs. Pearl Bradford Davis, 87, of Houston are set for 10:30 a. m. Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Craig, the Rev. Harry Rankin and the Rev. Leroy Stanton officiating. Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis, who was born Dec. 25, 1896, in Goodrich, Texas, died March 13, 1984, at Bayou Glen Nursing Home in Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. W. Davis and her son, Milam Lanier Davis.

Mrs. Davis was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She and her husband were the former owners of the Baytex Hotel in Bay City, founders of the Como Motel in Bay City and founders of Davis Floral, which later became Brady’s Floral.

She is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Frances Davis and Harry B. Brady of Houston; a sister, Jewel Frisby of Houston; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Brady, Bill McIntire, Bob Sewell, Paul Brewer, Donnie Dornak and Wayne Head. Honorary pallbearers will be George Patterson, John Hatteberg, Gary Harrell, Jim Momney, Leonard Braden and James Bradford.

Taylor Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James Aaron Davis

James Aaron Davis, (J.D.), passed away on July 22, 2014.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Martha Matthews; two sisters, Barbara and Betty (Donald); brothers, Paul (Mattie), Arch, Hurbert, Ken, Willie (Jennifer), Vernon Jr. (Cindy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Agape Family Outreach Church, 1811 Newsome, Palacios, Texas.

Oran Wade Davis, 80, of Newgulf died at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton April 27, 1981.

Survivors include: daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Brown of Boling; brother, B. C. Davis of Bay City; grandson, Charles Norman Brown Jr.

Funeral services will be held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel April 28 at 2 pm with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.  Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.  Pallbearers include: Jim Davis, A. C. Davis, Jamie Bullock, Glenn King, Davant Sterry, and Harold McVey.  Honorary pallbearers include: Coleman Stansell, Beau Ganske, Bud Beasley, and Melvin Baca.

Mozetta Polk Deadrick

Funeral services for Mozetta Polk Deadrick, 64, of Palacios, Texas, will be Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Agape Family Outreach Church with Pastor Eric Young, eulogizing.

Visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the chapel of Green’s Mortuary, Bay City.

She is survived by her three loving children, Robert L. Deadrick Jr., Elijah D. Joseph and Kyona M. Deadrick.

Also surviving her are her siblings, Phillis Leloupe, Jessie Williams (Reggie), Brenda Martin, Debbie Polk, Kathleen Travis, Millie Ford (DC), Townsend Polk (Cheryl), Billy Polk (Marion), Charles Polk (Elnora) and Slyvester Polk III (Equla); loving grandchildren, D’Annia Deadrick, Jasian Deadrick, Robert Deadrick III, Jayde Joseph, Jovoun Joseph, Jenna Joseph and Juliette Joseph; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Irene De La Garza, born May 2, 1922, passed away on June 23, 2014 in Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by both her parents; and her siblings.

She leaves behind eight children; and 22 grandchildren.

She will be missed by all.

William F. Denbow Dies in Wharton

William F. Denbow of 3112 Avenue H, passed away this morning at Rugeley Blasingame Hospital in Wharton at 9:30 o’clock.

Mr. Denbow, who was born June 2, 1886, in Louisville, Ohio, is survived by his wife, Mrs. W. F. Denbow of Bay City. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Jennie Denbow of Louisville; one daughter, Mrs. K. D. Carter of Bay City; three sons, H. E. of Bay City, E. W. and F. H. Denbow of Markham, and two brothers, C. R. of Robstown and Irving Denbow of Louisville.

Funeral services will be conducted at First Methodist Church Monday at 10 o’clock a. m. with the Rev. Leslie LeGrand officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

The deceased has been a resident of Bay City 21 years. He was a member of First Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Charles Alva Dervage

Little Charles Alva Dervage, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvie F. Dervage of Gulf, age five years, one month and seventeen days, is missed by his many friends here. He was such a good little boy, radiating sunshine wherever he went and never missed his Sunday School class until he got sick and could not attend any more. He died in a Houston hospital, June 9, 1932, and the remains were forwarded to the funeral parlor of Taylor Bros. in Bay City and were buried the following day in the Cedarvale Cemetery. He is remembered by all grieving relatives and friends who brought many beautiful flowers which covered the little grave.

Geraldine Dettling

December 17, 1922 – June 19, 2014

Geraldine Dettling passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, in a Bay City, Texas hospital, at the age of 91.

Geraldine Louise Wendel was born December 17, 1922, in Mentz, Texas, to Edmund Joseph Wendel and Clara Frances Braden Wendel.

The family moved to the Jones Creek area near Taiton, and later, to Crescent, where she graduated from high school in 1941. She met John Louis Dettling at a dance in Taiton and they married at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church in El Campo on July 5, 1943.

The couple had six children over the years. She was proud to say that she had a child every day of the week except Sunday, so she had six days of labor and one of rest. After her youngest child started school, Geraldine returned to school to become an LVN and worked at Caney Valley Hospital and then Gulf Coast Medical Center for twelve years.

After she retired, John and Geraldine lived a full life dancing, traveling, and playing dominoes. Geraldine was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America in both El Campo and Wharton. She was an active member of the Holy Family Mother’s Club and Altar Society for many years.

She and John, together with some of their closest friends, started the Good Times Dance Club, which lasted for several decades. Geraldine had a passion for cooking, canning, sewing, and gardening. She was full of hospitality for friends and family. A stroke in 1992 left her left side paralyzed but did not break her spirit or love of life. She regained her ability to bake bread, strudel and kolaches. She taught John how to can pickles and vegetables from their garden and make jelly and fig preserves.

Her husband John, in 2008; and daughter, Helen Monfrey preceded Geraldine in death, in 2004. In addition to her parents; her sisters, Magdalene Kudlac and Edmunda Wendel; her brothers, Gilbert, Clarence and Edmund Wendel Jr.; her great-grandson, Michael Odom; also preceded her in death.

Her children, Frances and Dorman Pullin of Caldwell, Joe and Sheryl Dettling of College Station, Liz and Gabby Moreno of Wharton, Leroy Dettling of Wharton and John Dettling, Jr. of Wharton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Allen Wendel of Mentz and Bernard Wendel of Corpus Christi, survive her.

Pallbearers were Michael Moreno, Patrick Moreno, Christopher Moreno, David Molick, Gerald Wendel, Mark Monfrey.

Honorary Pallbearers were all grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, god-children, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Wharton Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary held at 7 p.m. The funeral mass was on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church, at 10 a.m.

Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Douglas Kendall De Vos

(December 11, 1986 - April 15, 2014)

Douglas Kendall De Vos, 27, of Bay City passed away April 15, 2014. He was born December 11, 1986 in New Braunfels, TX to Kenneth De Vos and Dana Westbrook De Vos. He was a Pharmacy Technician.

Survivors include his wife Jessamyn Allain De Vos of Bay City; father Kenneth De Vos of Fredricksburg; mother Dana Wagner (Jack) of Austin and his brother Kevin De Vos (Rachel) of Austin.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM Friday, April 18, 2014 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A memorial is being planned for a later date.

Jerry Wayne Dittlinger

Sept. 13, 1949 -June 11, 2014

Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Dittlinger, 64, of Richmond, Texas will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2014 in the Sanctuary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2014 in the Sanctuary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Jerry was born September 13, 1949 in Robstown to Eugene and Janet (Odom) Dittlinger. He served in the U.S. Marines. Jerry loved hunting and liked to go to the Frio River. He was also a golfer and liked shooting sporting clays. Jerry passed away June 11, 2014 in Richmond.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Judy Lee Dittlinger.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Hanus Dittlinger; parents, Eugene and Janet Dittlinger; sons, Gregory Wayne Dittlinger and wife, Laura and Patrick Henry Dittlinger and wife, Lee; grandchildren, Bryce Henry Dittlinger, Reece Perry Dittlinger, Riley Carson Dittlinger and Blake Patrick Dittlinger; and siblings, Cathy Reisner and Pam Nelson; along with other family, relatives and friends.

Jerry worked in the oilfield all his life and made many lifelong friends.

William Walter Doss, Jr.

November 26, 1935 –May 8, 2014

William Walter Doss, Jr., 78, of Wadsworth, TX, passed away May 8, 2014.

He was born November 26, 1935 in Bay City, TX, to the late William Walter Doss, Sr. and Ida Elizabeth Culver Doss. He was a rancher and worked for many years as a soil conservation field representative for the USDA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Elizabeth Doss; sisters, Dorothy Doss, Ethel Harry, Clara Peebles, Louise Doss, Betty Jean Doss and Rosemary Sutton; and twin brother, Wilburn Doss.

He is survived by one brother, James Edward Doss of Guthrie, Oklahoma; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Roselawn Memorial Park with Chaplain Don Storey officiating.
