Sandra Wall Davant

November 12, 1940 – February 8, 2026

Sandra Wall Davant, 85, of Blessing, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on February 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Sandra was born on November 12, 1940, in Magnolia, Mississippi, to Margie and Robert Wall. She was the oldest of eight siblings and spent her early years in Mississippi before moving with her family to Texas at the age of eleven. She graduated from Calhoun High School and went on to build a life defined by faith, service, and devotion to family.

For 66 years, Sandra was the beloved wife of Dr. Jim Davant. Side by side, they worked tirelessly together, with Sandra always lending her support to her husband’s endeavors, including his veterinary clinic, Coastal Wild Wings, and K5 Ranch. Her work was never about recognition. It was an expression of love and partnership.

Sandra was the proud mother of four children: Roxanne Davant Crain (Marty), James E. “Cinco” Davant V, Michael “Mike” Davant, Julie Davant Haines (Jerry), and a bonus daughter Debra Taska (David). She was a devoted grandmother to ten grandchildren: Cassie Hackfeld (Avery), Katie Claxton (Rush), John Crain (Darbi), John “Ted” Davant VI (Brooke), Jennifer Davant Lindstrom (Jon), Ross Davant (Anna), Avery Davant Galvez (Josh), Call Davant (Malorie), Max Haines (Maddie), Sam Haines, and bonuses Jordan Genzer (McKinsey), and Peyton Taska Genzer (Makayla). Her legacy continues through twenty great-grandchildren: Bryce “Rusty” Hackfeld (Roxanna), Kortlyn Hackfeld, Landon Piwonka, Emma Piwonka, Rilyn Hackfeld, Adilyn Hackfeld, Connor Claxton, Kali Claxton, John “Trace” Crain, Catch Crain, Huntlea Crain, John “Easton” Davant VII, Heath Davant, Parker Davant, Aurora Lindstrom, Zoe Lindstrom, Holly Davant, Bethany Davant, Ivan Davant, Naomi Davant, and two great-great-grandchildren: Ruston Hackfeld, Rowen Schmersahl, and bonus Hudson Taska Genzer, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

The matriarch of her family, Sandra was lovingly known by many names: Momma, Granny, Aunt Sandra and Sandra Myrl. Those that had the privilege of knowing her describe her as a true lady. Even throughout her long illness, she never lost the grace and dignity she carried throughout her life, continuing to shower love and blessings on all. Her greatest accomplishment was raising a family who loves God and fiercely loves each other. She was known for always having a beautiful smile on her face, her love of singing in celebration of her faith, and making sure the family gathered often. Her most treasured moments were those spent surrounded by her family and friends.

A woman of deep faith, Sandra was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, a devoted member of The Daughters of the King, a board member of the Blessing Historical Foundation, and a participant in several book clubs. She enjoyed reading, china painting, sewing, gardening, walking, and sharing stories of her family history. She was passionate about where she came from and made it a priority to write letters to her grandchildren so they would always know their roots.

Sandra’s love language was service. She loved to host birthday dinners, holiday celebrations, and cooking lunch for the guys. She was known for her generosity, kindness, belief in forgiveness and grace, and her joyful insistence on being present, earning her family’s playful teasing that she gave them their FOMO, fear of missing out. She loved traveling, especially with family and friends. Her last sunset was spent celebrating her oldest daughter's birthday, surrounded by family. Our brightest star has gone to be with our Lord and Savior, but will live forever and always in our hearts.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Jim Davant; her four children; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Sharon Charbula, Sybil Wall, and Stephanie Crocker Kopsa (Gregg); brothers Robert Dale Wall (Rhoda) and Clyde Crocker; sister-in-law Teddie Davant Perry (Graham); and brother-in-law Bill Davant (Debbie); many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Susan Wall and Shirley Wall Mayfield; and her sisters-in-law Carolyn Davant Fricke, Kathryn Davant Higgins, and Eugenia Davant Wilson.

Visitation will be held, Thursday, February 12, 2026 at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Father William “Bill” Bullard. A graveside service will follow at Hawley Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the many nurses, caregivers, and medical professionals who so compassionately cared for our momma throughout the past year, especially her sweet Naomi. Your kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication brought comfort not only to her, but to all of us. We are forever grateful for the dignity, love, and respect you showed her each day, and for the peace you helped provide during this journey. Your care will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 895 Palacios, TX 77465.

Mark E. Dreymala

December 6, 1959 – January 13, 2026

Mark E. Dreymala, age 66, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026. He was born December 6, 1959, in Houston, TX to the late Leonard E. and Frances (Frankie) Kindred Dreymala.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelbie Marie Dreymala; 3 grandchildren, Auvyana Faith Guardiola, Aubreylle Renee Guardiola, and Taejon Amani Bruce; and 2 sisters, Linda, her husband Bill Day, their children Christopher (Molly) and Carson; and Diane Dreymala and her husband Jim Findlay.

Yes, Mark’s birthplace was in Houston, TX but he and his sisters were raised by their devoted and caring parents in Port Lavaca, TX where he absolutely fell in love with the outdoors. He played Little League baseball, was active in Boy Scouts and 4H, but spent as many waking hours as possible fishing, camping, hunting, and throwing frisbees on the beach. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1978 and ventured “inland” to Waco, TX where he attended trade school at Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI) and obtained a degree in Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics in 1979.

Desperately missing his fishing, camping, hunting and beach time activities, Mark moved from Waco, TX (with degree in hand) back to the South Texas coastal region where he sought out, found and built a successful 40-year professional career in Industrial Plant Maintenance, contributing his expertise to the South Texas Nuclear Plant in Matagorda County and Nanya Plastics in Wharton, TX. His career path allowed him to live close to the “coastal waters” that brought him immense joy.

Mark loved his family, friends, work, motorcycle and the great outdoors. He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, adventurous spirit, and the joy he found in nature and family gatherings. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 23rd, 2026 at Taylor Bros. Funeral home in Bay City, TX. Funeral services will follow viewing at 2:00 PM.

Elmo Duke, Jr.

February 5, 1940 – January 15, 2026

Elmo Duke, Jr. eagerly entered this world in Houston, Texas on February 5, 1940, as the first child to loving parents Elmo (Pete) Duke, Sr. and Mayme Calo Duke. He passed into greener pastures on January 15, 2026.

He attended and graduated from Missouri City High School in 1958, being the last graduating class before the school consolidated into Dulles High School. Elmo served four years in Future Farmers of America receiving Greenhand Farmer, Lone Star Farmer and the first ever at his school to receive the American Farmer degree at the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Kansas in 1959. He also received Electricity, Mechanics and DeKalb Awards and served as area FFA Vice-President. He was awarded second place in Harris County’s Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year. Elmo was on the Missouri City Mustangs football team and also on the track team during his high school years. He was a great runner in track and received many medals and ribbons. He loved to reminisce about those years and greatly enjoyed going to his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s sports events.

Elmo and his high school sweetheart, Rita Marianne Hastings of Alief, Texas were married on December 20, 1958. Together they started farming and ranching and during this time they were blessed with daughter, Linda, sons, Elmo, III and John. Elmo was a lifelong farmer and rancher in Brazoria County for 17 years and moved his family and farming operation to Matagorda County in 1972 where he continued to farm for 26 years retiring from farming in 1998 having farmed for 43 years. During this time also becoming owner/operator of Riceland Flying Service in 1983-1990, a crop-dusting service company where he along with an excellent work crew and family members provided excellent crop services to a large clientele of farmers. The office was a favorite meeting place for the farmers. At the same time he was still farming along with his wife, daughter and two sons who were involved in the day to day operations of both the farm and crop-dusting service. Presently, at the time of his demise he was an agent/owner of Texana Real Estate opening its doors for business in 2002. After he retired from farming his daughter, Linda urged him to go to real estate school and he readily took her advice stating that after retirement from farming and selling Riceland Flying Service since he was not happy to sit at home and watch the “Young and Restless.” This became a great family joke since he once received a speeding ticket rushing home from the office to watch it! While the family grew, grandchildren spent a lot of time at deer camp in South Texas camping out, enjoying hiking, fishing, hunting with their Dad, and collecting arrowheads with their “Pappy.” These were memorable years in his life and as the grandchildren told him many times that going to deer camp with him was the most fun they had in their whole lives. They loved sleeping in the camp house, riding bikes up and down hills, building and dancing around a campfire at night, dinner outside under the stars, celebrating New Years with firecrackers and egg nog. But most of all getting to hunt with their “Pappy.” As they grew to adults many of those deer and duck hunts are being made with their families. Elmo was a strong man of faith and integrity leaving a legacy of family behind.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Rita Marianne Hastings Duke, daughter Linda Gail Greenawalt (Mark), sons Elmo (Bubba) Duke III (Susan), and John Chandler Duke (Brenda). His grandchildren include John David Greenawalt (Stacy), Kristen Kubecka (Dane), Mandy Moreno (Michael), Laura Chanek (Jason), Christopher Duke (Hannah), and Brian Duke. He also loved his 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. His in-laws include Jack and Yvonne Kirkland, Fred Hastings, Frank Planka, Caroline Duke.

Elmo is preceded in death by his parents, Elmo (Pete) and Mayme Calo Duke, sister Marjorie Duke Planka, and brother Anthony Duke along with his father and mother-in-law Chandler and Melva Hastings and brother-in-law Jack Hastings. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Elmo Cody Duke IV.

There will be a visitation at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM followed by the funeral at 10:00 AM with Louis Rush officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery with a meal at Beneath the Oaks afterwards. Pallbearers will be Christopher Duke, Brian Duke, John David Greenawalt, Dane Kubecka, Michael Moreno, and Jason Chanek.

Robert E. Dwight III
August 15, 1953 — January 21, 2026
Van Vleck

Robert E. Dwight III, 72, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, surrounded by his family. What a life. What a beautiful life this man has built. There aren’t enough words in any dictionary to describe the love our Dad showed to our family, and not enough encyclopedias for any bookshelf to withhold the knowledge of every big and small thing. Pup-Pup, Ro-Ro, Robby, Rob, Coach Dwight, Mr. Dwight, 2 Pop, Rob Diesel, Little Brother or my personal favorite Daddy. A man of many names but one very stable mission to raise a family who loves God, fiercely loves each other, knows their heritage and never to be without a smile. Our Moon and all our Stars left us to be with our Lord and Savior. May his soul rest in peace and may we never drive too, too fast for his guardian angel wings to keep up.

Born to Bob and Nancy Dwight on August 15, 1953, in Bluefield, West Virginia spending his early childhood in Beckley, West Virginia as Little Brother to sisters Sue and Ruth. Before beginning grade school, the family would move to the panhandle of West Texas, closest to the Salt Fork of the Red River which provided the backdrop of best stories of the big open sky and growing up in a small town. Rob would spend summers chasing arrowheads with his Dad as a young man accomplishing Eagle Scout, leaving him with the best descriptions of tent- camping in Yellowstone Park and many other adventures canoeing around Canada. A graduate of Samnorwood High School Class of 1971, Robby would spend a year playing basketball for Clarendon College before joining sister Ruth at Texas Tech University Class of 1977. Rob would also later accomplish his Master of Education from Southwest Texas University 1988.

After College ROB pursued a passionate journey in education with the mindset of kids first, which was passed down from his Chemist Science Teacher Mother and Superintendent of Schools Father. A true revolutionary educator he started his journey as Coach Dwight and across the State of Texas with many school districts in between he touched the lives of many before becoming Principal of Schools. Mr. Dwight would end his career in education as Superintendent of Schools in 2012 with a very happy retirement. Leaving each place better than when he found it and elevating each realm of living within each district for each educator and student for the better. An Eagle, Raider, Jaguer, Leopard, Leopard again, Tiger, Bulldog, Lion, Beaver, Comanche, Spartan, Bobcat and Spartan again many years were spent as the driver of a yellow bus chasing playoff season as the Biggest Fan of the current school sports team or to just fill-in for a Bus Route Driver. No role within the school was more important than the other and together as a team each school would succeed increasingly. A supporter across the board of everything that could lead to helping a kid build confidence, integrity and grit. He enjoyed supporting the arts, the Band, Theater, Auto Mechanic, Welding, FFA, FHA, TAFE, FCA and if a new club needed to be introduced, he would build funding to provide, to make it happen because enrichment for the future of the communities around him was of the most priority. Too many play-off wins to count, and a few Texas High School State Championships. Coach Dwight will live long in many former students and players’ hearts just as they did his entire life.

Rob Dwight married Dayna Griffin Dwight in 1986, he described the first-time seeing Mom as electric and had to find out more about the girl with the big hat in the red convertible. Soon after marriage they would welcome oldest daughter Sayrah Dwight Craft, five years later the dynamic duo ‘the Twins” Taylor Dwight and Tyler Dwight before the perfect ending and grand finale to the Dwight Tribe, Tarah Dwight-who would become the best road trip partner a Dad could ask for traveling back more recently for Last Samnorwood High School Reunion. Chad Craft would join Robs family in 2013 marrying Sayrah Ruth and become another son to him for 14 years, he would also be blessed with Taylor’s Fiancé, Dillon Pawlosky and the three of them alongside Tyler would be able to talk Astros, Texans, Spurs, Rockets, and all the worldly news for hours. Robs kids were his pride and joy, they will miss jamming Dads music like Aqualung by Jethro Tull , his delicious pit-grilled ‘pigsicles” (pork ribs), but mostly his very spiritually guided advice that would leave you with a smile and better sense of self. Dayna, the LOVE for his wife for 39 years radiated from his soul, the best partner supporting the kids with all activities and the Best Uncle from little kid to adulthood they could ask for. The accomplishment Rob wanted more in life above all else was to be greatest Dad and that was a goal a to be proud of, he was also a great friend, dependable leader, storyteller, belly-laugher, grill-cheese master, pasture walker, snake-stick making man with a pulse for life and a way with words that made everything simple to understand. With a simple “Just Breathe Darlin” and a song verse or two of ‘Mr Froggy went a Court’n” Dad could ease all the problems away. It was nothing to walk outside with Daddy howling at the moon and remind us we should too every chance we get. “Here Kitty Kitty, Ho Kitty Kitty’ is the call of the wild at Scared Dog Ranch and every animal knew that was feeding time. Rob taught his kids to love and appreciate the nature around us, often saying from “stardust to stardust, ashes to ashes.

After retirement Rob thrived in his role as PUP-PUP, spoiling his 8 grandchildren Maggy, Vanessa, Izzy Ray, Byrdie Eileen, Reagan, Rowan, Frank and Fischer Sinclair Craft. Every chance he got to be around them he was there, showing up with donuts, pan-frying his famous French Toast, always pockets full of new treasures and trinkets with the most patience, it was easy to be around their grandpa and we love him for that. We will be forever blessed and thankful that Pup-PUP loved his grandchildren and they loved him fiercely back, as Fischer reminds us to find the joy in our heart ‘too not be so sad. But to be so happy because Pup-Pup is in heaven and happy. He is so happy.’

The Life and Accomplishments of Rob Dwight cannot be summed up in so few words. He was a man of much knowledge, many stories and the greatest laugh.
