Larry was born July 12, 1951, and passed away peacefully
surrounded by his family on April 2, 2023, following a short
but hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was one on
six children born in Corpus Christi to Robert Morris Davis
and Hazel Jeanette Bell Davis.
As a child, he lived in Highway Village, an area north of
Corpus Christi, where he attended the local Baptist Church
and where his older brother, Joe, was baptized. Like so many
other things, he followed lead and was also baptized,
accepting Jesus as his Savior.
He joined the Army in 1968 and often said he turned 18 on
the plane from Germany to Viet Nam where he served on tour.
He retired from the Army in 1980. He was a proud Veteran and
loved his country. He worked with the Sheriff’s Department
for many years and headed up a narcotics task force for
Matagorda and Wharton Counties. His final career was as a
flood insurance adjuster, but his heart was always on the
farm. He did love his cattle and horses and he just may have
spoiled them a bit!
He leaves behind his beloved wife Paula, and oh-so loved
son, Steven. He also lease behind his granddaughters Cassie
(Roy) Chase and Amanda (Douglas) Hinds, and seven
great-grandchildren. Rylie Chase was the apple of his eye,
and he loved the them all-Jocelyn, Madyson, Carigyn and
Waylen Chase, Mason Moncrief and Dayz Hinds, His
Godchildren, Sarah and John Ottinger, were so very special
to him! He is also survived by his sisters, Ginger Susan
Helm and Sherry Lou Evan, along with many nieces and
nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his
Big brother Robert Joe Davis, and his little brothers,
Clayton Glen and Jerry Anthony Davis.
Every evening Larry would send a message to Cassie, Amanda,
Sarah and Rylie, telling them they were loved and goodnight.
He would often pull pranks on Steven, saying he was leaving
him memories-oh what memories we will all have of him. Later
in life he embraced Facebook and most mornings posted a
positive message that began with “it’s time to get that
smile on.”
I had a grateful life, none of it deserved. It has all been
by grace. I am a sinner, saved and loved by generous grace.

Sandra Jean Davis, 69, of Bay City passed away August 30, 2024. She was born July 7, 1955 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Sandra was a vibrant woman with a zest for life. She grew up in Georgetown, Massachusetts and moved to Bay City, Texas in 1978. She always said she wasn’t born here but got here as fast as she could. The community got to know Sandra through her love for teaching, her enthusiasm for her son’s sports, and of course her energy and hospitality at K-2 Steakhouse. She became a PE aid at Tennie Holmes Elementary and found her passion for working in education. After going back to college to get her bachelor’s in education and graduating from U of H Victoria summa cum laude, she proudly became a 3rd grade teacher at Tennie Holmes and continued teaching for 25 years. Sandra was more than just a teacher; she was a beacon of kindness and inspiration. Her dedication to teaching was evident in the school, nurturing a love of learning in all who entered her classroom. Beyond the curriculum, Sandra imparted valuable life lessons, teaching students the importance of perseverance, kindness, and integrity. Sandra was a passionate sports fan, a fixture at countless Black Cat games, and always cheering with pride as she watched her sons excel in football, baseball, and golf. She developed a love for sports early in life and was an avid Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics fan. Whether it was a Friday night football game under the lights or a summer baseball tournament, you would always see and HEAR her presence! She was also known for her ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She believed in the importance of giving back and helping others. Sandra could strike up a conversation with anyone, turning acquaintances into friends and friends into family. She was often the life of the party and can be described as the person who would get the party started…and then party ‘till the cows come home…then party with cows! She loved to dance, whether it was at a family gathering, a local event, or simply in her living room. Sandra loved all music, from Texas Country to Rock and Roll, even playing often Jazz and classical music in her classroom. Matagorda beach was her sanctuary, a place where she felt most at peace, enjoying the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun. Closer to home, Sandra took great pride in her yard, and she was always outside, tending to her flower beds with the same care and dedication she showed in all aspects of her life. Sandra had a talent for cooking that she picked up through her younger years in the restaurant industry. It was a gift she lovingly shared with everyone around her and passed along to her sons. Her kitchen was a place of happiness and creativity, and she had a remarkable way of transforming leftovers into new and exciting dishes. She was preceded in death by her parents John F. Craig and Clare J. Berube Fitzgerald. Survivors include her sons Kevin R. Cook (Chrissy C. Wilson) and Brian J-P Davis (Jade A. Halfpenny-Davis); sister Brabara A. Hughes; grandson Braxton; nieces Jeannette Carasco and Jillian Loera and a host of extended family and friends. Rest in peace, Sandra. Your energy, your laughter, and your love for life will be remembered always. Her family will receive friends and relatives for a viewing and visitation time from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Bay City ISD Education Fund. Bay City Tribune, September 4, 2024 |

The youngest of the three children, Juan, graduated from Calhoun High School in 1971 at the age of seventeen and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. Juan loved serving his country and was proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division and a Combat Medic. Juan contracted COVID-19 and tested positive on July 15, 2020. A few days later, he was transported to the hospital and our lives would never be the same. Juan A. Delgado passed away due to complications from COVID, peacefully on July 15, 2021, one year to the day of his original diagnosis. Please remember Juan’s love for his family; his wife, Cynthia, his children, Julia (Kris) Trevino, Danielle (Aaron Slater) Delgado , JD (Karol) Delgado, Candace (Juan) Cardoza and Brian (Sandra) Vega. Remember the unforgettable bond he had with his grandchildren; Brayden, Elena, Sebastian, John Michael, Katherine and Evelyn. Esther De La Rosa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to her Heavenly Father on March 13, 2024. Born to Ralph and Teresa Gonzales, she was the firstborn child and a beacon of light in her community of Palacios, TX. Esther's life was marked by her unwavering faith and dedication to prayer. She grew up in Palacios, TX, where she cherished her childhood and formed lifelong friendships. As a child, Esther enjoyed walking to the bay, playing imaginative games with her sisters, and dancing to music at home. Her teenage years brought new adventures, like attending dances at the Pan American with her friend Elma. Every Sunday, her father would treat her and her siblings to a ride around town and an ice cream, a tradition she held dear. As an adult, she lived in Bay City, TX, where she worked in the local schools and devoted her time to various volunteer activities. After retiring from Bay City Independent School District, she continued to serve her community with the same passion and dedication. Esther volunteered at Matagorda Regional Medical with the Auxiliary group, provided support at The Women’s Pregnancy Center, and was involved with the BCISD Grandparents Program, touching lives with her generosity and spirit of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Teresa Gonzales; her brother, Ernest Gonzales; her niece, Iris Gonzales; and her granddaughter, Amanda R Charles. Her legacy continues through her husband, Ramon De La Rosa of 34 years; siblings, Elizabeth Sanchez (Andy) and Emily Garcia (Jasper); her children, Deborah Longoria, Ruth Garcia (Rick), Adrian Longoria (Kathryn) and Anezma Trevino (Tracy). Her memory will also be cherished by her 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren: Jose Zuniga III (Joey), Amanda R Charles, Richard Aaron Garcia, Natalie Joy Garcia, Madison P Powell, Emily D Longoria, Matthew A Longoria, Brayden A Paniagua and Liam W Martinez. Her candid nature, truthfulness, and sense of humor brought joy and laughter to those around her. Her smile was a symbol of the love and care she extended to everyone she met. In the spirit of Esther's enduring strength and faith, we are comforted by the words of Isaiah 40:31: "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." And we find solace in the promise of 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." Visitation will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Living Word Church, 1405 Cr 317 12th St., Palacios, TX 77465. One of Gabriel’s greatest joys was being the “Fun Uncle” to nieces Jacquelyn Pennell, Ava Brooks, Allie Brooks, and nephew Frank Joseph Pennell. Gabe grew up in Bay City, Texas and moved to San Marcos, Texas his sophomore year of high school, where he continued to excel in music, earning a state-wide recognition in choir and accolades for his trumpet playing. Gabriel’s love for music led him to McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he aspired to become a band director and participated in the marching band, it is during this time that he began dating his lovely wife, Emily. Always being a momma’s boy, Louisiana was too far from his beloved family members which led him to transfer to Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and began pursuing a career in construction engineering. After graduation, he found success with Ryan Companies where he worked his way up the ladder to Superintendent. Gabriel greatly enjoyed his duties at Ryan Companies and took great pride in the construction sites and high-rise buildings he managed. His hard work can be displayed forever as a part of the Austin, Texas skyline where the Thompson Hotel stands 32 stories tall on 5th and Brazos Street. Gabriel enjoyed talking and debating about anything to anyone. He never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. His boisterous voice and large personality filled every room he entered leaving lasting impressions and making life-long friends. Gabriel loved to entertain and have friends and family over for a Texans, Spurs, Astros, Texas State game, or just because. To Gabe every day is a day worth celebrating. His love for sports were on display for all to see at his younger brother’s basketball and football games, where he was one of their biggest and loudest fans. Gabriel also loved to cook and barbeque. He would frequently be in the backyard smoking a brisket, boiling some crawfish, or playing with his beloved dog Burr and Benny his cat. Gabriel loved animals and would come home with random dogs and cats that he saved from whatever construction site he was working at that day. It was these acts of kindness that best illustrates his deep compassion and love for family, friends, and animals. Due to Gabe’s deep love and care for the “Bully Breeds”, donations in his memory can be made to Texas Pit Crew at www.texaspitcrew.org The family will be holding a “Celebration of Life” service on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 325 W McCarty Lane, San Marcos, Texas. On Monday, August 19, 2024, Eva Jane Dempsey, wife, mother, and all-around badass, passed from this life into the next. For those who knew her, Eva was always the life of the party, with a wicked sense of humor and infectious laughter that drew others to her like bees to honey. She loved Dos Equis (dressed with salt and lime) and live music. She was strong, beautiful, and lively. She devoured true crime, danced to country music and Prince, and insisted we watch her beloved Astros whenever they were on. Eva is survived by her doting, equally hilarious husband Jim, a.k.a., "hey that dude looks like Guy Fieri." They were married for 32 years and, even though they faced ups and downs, they did so together (usually with a beverage in hand and The Eagles playing in the background). Their union was one for the ages. Eva also leaves behind two daughters and their families, Shelby and Chase Francis (with two incomparable grandbabies, Brooks and Luke), and Kristen and Ian Steinmetz (with an assorted mess of grandkitties). She was preceded in death by too many to name, but all of whom were surely in attendance to greet her when she strutted into Heaven on the back of a glorious sunset. In lieu of flowers, and in line with her final wishes, please consider a donation to Tunnels to Towers, a foundation dedicated to helping Gold Star families and the families of fallen first responders. "Murrel" Denbow Brazoria Anna “Murrel” Renfroe-Denbow was taken by the angels to answer our Lord and Majesty’s call from this earthly life into the Eternal Kingdom on January 5, 2023, at the age of 92, while surrounded by her loving family. Murrel was born on June 28, 1930, the third of five children born to the late Don Jean Covington and Edna Ira Lamb-Covington, in Phillips, TX. Growing up she enjoyed a childhood where she was taught the value of a dollar, hard work, and family. Family was the most cherished lesson of her upbringing and this was clear to all those who met her. Murrel graduated from Borger High School and shortly thereafter married and started a family of her own, where she passed those same valuable lessons on to her children, Larry, Lonnie, Ray, and Lori. Murrel, of a true servant’s heart, was an active member of the Church, Eastern Star, and Parents Without Partners in her early adult life. She worked in the Title business and later retired from Brazoria County Abstract. She was also an active member of Brazoria County Mental Health My Resources for many years. Despite her active role in the community, her grandchildren never missed her smiling face at nearly every function in their lives. Later in life, Murrel found the love of her life Bill Denbow and together they celebrated 26 years of marriage before his passing. They set the perfect example of what love means to all who knew and loved them. Together they became known to so many as Nanny and Papaw and were often seen sitting in the stands cheering on the grandchildren and their teammates and later their great grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling, visiting family and did their best to find a fishing hole to cast a line into, many times with a grandchild in tow. If Nanny wasn’t busy spending time with her family, she was in the kitchen cooking for them from a memorized list of favorites each of her grandchildren and children had told her in passing. Her love language was acts of service, particularly food. Nanny served her family, church, and the Lord selflessly and without complaint every chance she had. Her love for her family was only surpassed by the love she had for the Lord. From taking grandkids to church, teaching them “Jesus Loves Me”, to serving, she was constantly displaying her love for our Heavenly Father. Murrel loved her church family at First Baptist Church of Brazoria and looked forward to times with them serving and worshiping together. The Thursday gathering of the TNT (Tried-N-True) group was the highlight of her week and a source of tremendous personal fulfillment. Murrel was a faithful daughter of God and she made this apparent to all she met through her selflessness, acceptance, and the acts of kindness she extended to all. Murrell - “Momma,” “Nanny,” a woman of everlasting smiles, encouraging words, continuous laughter, endless supplies of love, hugs, and food will be missed by so many. Murrel is survived by sons – Larry Renfroe (Vicki), Ray Renfroe, Forrest Denbow (Cindy). Daughters – Lori Renfroe Morgan (Tom), Sherry Denbow Wilson (Dace). Sister – Donna Lee Covington Scott. Sister N Laws – Francis Covington and Patricia Denbow. 22 Grandchildren, 45 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Murrel is preceded in death by her parents, Husband - Bill Denbow, Son – Lonnie Renfroe and Grandson – Cody Renfroe. Baker Funeral Home, West Columbia, Texas
William "Bill" Forrest Denbow II William "Bill" Forrest Denbow II at age 92, was summoned from his earthly life early in the morning November 4, 2021, at home surrounded by loved ones. The angels took him to answer our Lord and Majesty’s call into the eternal Kingdom. Bill was born to late Herman Elsworth "Pete" Denbow and Ethel Dorothy Platt - Denbow. On March 16, 1929, on the way to the hospital Bill made his sudden debut in the back seat of the car. His mother told his daddy that his healthy son was here and to just go home. His dad did as told, neither knowing that shortly after his twin brother Willie would be born at home. Bill attended Van Vleck High School, where he was a star athlete. Immediately following high school, he married Lillian Leona Coston shortly thereafter their family began. Together they had 3 beautiful babies, Sherry, Forrest, and Becky. Bill worked in the oilfields as a Roughneck. After several years roughnecking, he was hired by Phillips 66 where he would eventually retire with 36 years of dedication. Bill, after being widowed, married Murrel Renfroe - Denbow. Together they recently celebrated 26 years of happy marriage. They set so many examples of what love and marriage meant to all that knew and loved them. Bill a true outdoorsman spent many of hours in the Great Gulf of Mexico and beautiful waters of Texas. Bill in his early years took his Boston Whaler out every chance he got, often with his son or one of his grandkids aboard. He had a true passion for hunting as well and spent many hours in a deer stand with his loved ones. After the marriage of Bill and Murrel together they traveled to see family where they always found a fishing hole to cast a line into. They enjoyed the outdoors together and always seemed to have a grandkid in tow. His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by the love he had for his family but most of all, the Lord. Bill if not at a fishing spot with his "girlfriend" Murrel could be found most often right beside her at one of their grandkids’ events cheering them on or at First Baptist Church of Brazoria. Bill could be found serving any chance he could, whether it on a Sunday morning or enjoying a Thursday outing with the churches T-N-T group. In his passing Bill was an emeritus Deacon and a faithful son of God. This was apparent to all of those he met, through his selflessness, acceptance and act of kindness extended to all. William Whiddon and Fannie Viola Whiddon at her parents’
home in Markham, Texas. As the child of a farmer, she was
given the choice to pick cotton or cook; she chose to learn
to cook from her mother, a skill that lasted her a
lifetime. She attended Markham schools until the area
schools consolidated to become Tidehaven School District, a

Houston and at Dow Chemical in Freeport. She was introduced
by her cousin Alta and her husband Tommy LeTulle to John C.

Shane, John, and Jane; and her children, and their children,

older, her entrepreneurial spirit blossomed and she opened
several businesses on the square in Bay City. In the
mid-70s, she started floral business Jo-Nan’s. Later, she
and Shane poured their creativity into Interiors by Shane.
With the addition of Jane, they opened Lagniappe and the tea
room on the square. Joan and John also partnered with their
son John in ranching and farming operations at her parents’
farm and along the Colorado River. She loved to cook and
create a beautiful home and life for her loved ones. She
took people under her wing and considered them her own.
Each of her children agreed: she was the most hardworking
person they knew.

Donna
Ann Diliberto Donna Ann Diliberto, 58, passed away on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, with family by her side. She fought a long, hard and courageous battle against triple negative breast cancer. Her outlook, positivity and faith during this time was admired by all who knew her and was inspiring to say the least. Donna was born on December 26, 1964, to Bruce B Grasmuck and Christa Schimpf Grasmuck, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She grew up in Fremont, California until she was 13 years old and then moved to Bay City, Texas, where she finished her high school years. She graduated from Bay City High School and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston in Victoria, Texas. After graduating from college, she went on to teach high school math for 15 years. In 2005 she changed careers and moved to Iraq, working as a government contractor. When she moved back to the states, she continued contract work and lived in Virginia & Illinois. While living in Illinois, she met her husband Joe and later they moved to Spring Branch, Texas, where they resided when she passed. Donna was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to cook, entertain family and friends, and spend time with her grandchildren. She and Joe enjoyed traveling near and far and their favorite pastime was enjoying their pool and outdoor island kitchen in their backyard. She was very active with the Catholic church in Illinois and became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Blanco, Tx. She had a heart of gold, and her smile was contagious. Donna lived a full life in her short 58 years with us. She raised three children at home, and you might even say she raised a few more through her outreach in teaching. She braved working overseas in a war zone and never once batted an eye while there. She fulfilled her travel dreams internationally and domestically with her family and friends. She loved to volunteer her time with St Clare of Assisi and was the first to raise her hand to help cook for their retreats. If there was an event to plan, you could count on Donna to provide the homecooked meal. If you ever had an opportunity to taste one of her meals, you could see why her offer to cook was always accepted. Donna is preceded in death by her father, Bruce B Grasmuck. Donna is survived by her husband, Joe Diliberto, mother Christa Grasmuck, brother Dennis Grasmuck, brother Michael Grasmuck Gardner (wife Joann Gardner), daughter Nichole Foote Harmon (husband David Harmon), daughter Kristin Foote Chawdhary (husband Omar Chawdhary) and son Randy Sparks (fiance Tiffany Ortiz), grandchildren Keegan Vargas (14), Annie Sparks (6), Hagan Harmon (4), Elora Sparks (1) & Zain Chawdhary (6 mths). This was the mantra of my dad, the coolest man I ever knew. Always wearing his signature Ray Ban Wayfarers, even when it was dark outside, Dad carried himself with confidence and style. Frank Edward Drenner, Jr. grew up in Wharton, Texas, then joined the US Navy following the lead of his father Frank Edward Drenner, Sr, and his brother Donald. Always a gifted storyteller, Dad’s younger days in Wharton and his service in the Navy were bottomless pools where hilarious memories were drawn and shared over and over. As a young adult Dad married my mother Pat Guffey in March of 1970. My sister Julie and I joined soon thereafter. Eventually we both contributed three grandsons to the family. Dad considered it his most important duty to provide for Mom and all of us, and she returned his devotion by loving him unconditionally for 53 years of marriage. Dad was the epitome of an entrepreneur, starting multiple businesses throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He brought a creativity and fearlessness I always admired. He was never afraid to take risks- learning, adapting, moving on from failures, building on successes. Playing anything safe and easy was not in his character. I saw in him a desire for perfection few could achieve. His need to do things- everything- the right, correct way was evident in his gardening, cooking, even shooting pool. He did it all with a chip on his shoulder, a need to achieve and succeed, and a life-long goal to be the best. He overcame much, loved much, created and discovered much. My favorite memories of Dad were going to the movies in Houston, speeding down the backroads, Bob Seger or the Eagles blasting on the stereo, both of us singing along as loud as we could. We did this from my adolescence right through my middle age years. When we were separated by distance I kept in touch by sending him photos of great meals I enjoyed in Dallas his reactions were the best part. I would even send him pictures of my own cooking, both of us knowing and accepting it would never compete with his. I will miss asking is advice about what trees to plant where and hearing about the latest toy he purchased to make his cooking even better. I will miss trying to impress him with phrases in sermons or showing off my newest pair of shoes. The last thing I said to Dad was how proud I was to have him as my father. I have a tradition of writing haikus for my sons when they graduate high school. Now that Dad has graduated from earthly life to a heavenly one, here is one in his honor:
Pepaw, Dad, Darling, Frank - Rev Dr Frank Drenner, III A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Beneath the Oaks Chapel, 1796 State Hwy 71, Midfield, TX 77458. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Frank’s memory be made to “For the Love of Animals” at P.O. Box 1353, Bay City, TX. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home
