Wharton Rafeal (Ralph) Cadriel, 71, of Wharton, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, in Sugar Land. He was born on August 6, 1954, in Mackay, Texas, to Jessie and Mary Cervantes Cadriel.Ralph was born and raised in Wharton County. He graduated from Wharton High School with the class of 1973. Ralph was employed with Wharton ISD and later, Bay City ISD, he enjoyed his years of work and helping others at the schools. Ralph loved playing a good game of dominoes, visiting with friends at the nursing home, watching wrestling on tv, making friends and helping anybody in need. Ralph was a dedicated member of the St Vincent de Paul Society at church. His greatest joy came from the people around him. He never met a stranger.Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mary Cadriel, and his brother, Jessie Cadriel. He is survived by his loving sisters, Mary Ann Torres and Selia “Sally” Cadriel both of Wharton. He is also survived by his nephews, Bentura “Alex” Torres, Miguel Torres, and Adrian Torres.Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Wharton Funeral Home after 5 pm with a rosary recited at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton at 10 am. Tranis Lee “Train” Calk (76) was born on October 4, 1948 in Bay City, TX. He left to be with the lord at his home on December 9, 2024 in Sweeny, TX surrounded by his loved ones. He is proceeded in death by his father Wade Thomas Calk Sr., mother, Alpha Lucille “Lucy” Calk, granddaughter in-law, Gabriella “Gabby” Canales, and his 2 furry companions, Rambo 1 and Rambo 2. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy Coston Calk; children, Thomas Lee (Jackie) Calk, Toby (April) Calk, Kristi (Henry) Corenfield; grandchildren, Darrin (Brenda) Calk, Melanie (Dean) Bagby, Garrett Calk, Cristin (Cody) Bledsoe, Colbey (Corey) Calk, Derek (Bryleigh) Corenfield, Dawson Corenfield, Briana Corenfield and 9 great-grandkids; brothers, Harvey Clayton (Suzanne) Calk, Wade (Tonya) Calk, Bobby (Donna) Calk, and sister Nancy (Al) DuCote; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, one aunt, Evelyn Hornaday and many friends. A world traveler and a jack-of-all-trades, Tranis was known for his love and guardianship of family, his willingness to help someone in need, the dish western channel, and just being a Paw Paw. His favorite shows were Roadhouse, Lonesome Dove, and Yellowstone. Some hobbies of his were hunting, fishing, porch beer, outings at the mud races, and according to him — being the champion of arm wrestling.

Mary Louisa Campos, 78, of Brookshire, Texas passed away May 29, 2025. She was born December 16, 1946 in Bay City, TX to the late Elec M. Garza and Sarah Garcia Garza. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Garza, Jr. Survivors include her husband Ruben Campos; daughter Michele Campos; son Ruben Campos, Jr. (Amber); sister Melba Garza; brothers Jimmy Garza, Ezekiel Garza, Danny Garza and Clem Garza and grandchildren Morgan Campos, Alexis Sunderland, Garrison Campos, Joshua Campos, Andrew Grenier, Avery Grenier, Charleigh Laenger and Linden Roberts. Candelario Cantu, 91, of Bay City, passed away on May 24, 2025. He was born on February 2, 1934, in Gulf, Texas. Candelario’s strong work ethic began early in life when he took over his brother Joe’s paper route as a young boy. At just 15, he became an apprentice at Mr. Blum’s TV Repair, where he learned the foundations of a trade that would shape his future. After graduating high school, he pursued further education at the Chicago School of Television Repair. With dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, he went on to establish Cande’s TV and Radio Repair Shop, a successful local business known throughout the community. Determined to continue growing, Candelario also attended night school to become a Sheriff’s Deputy. His commitment to public service led to his election as a Matagorda County Constable, a position he held with honor for 30 years. Candelario’s hard work and determination built a solid foundation for his family. Through his success, he proudly provided for his children, supported their education, and stood as a constant source of strength and support. He faced life's challenges with courage and resilience, including triumphing over cancer twice. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family. Candelario is survived by his children: Monica Triplett, Cande Guadalupe Cantu (Margarita), Christan Ceasar Cantu (Christina), Christopher Gregory Cantu and Annette Martinez (Larry). He also leaves behind grandchildren: Raegan Bagby, Justin Williams, Katie Williams, John Triplett, Joseph Triplett, Larry Ross Martinez, and Joyce Marie Highlander; as well as four great-grandchildren. Services were held for Chad Lewis Carrow, 5, of Bay City, 2pm today (Monday) at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Charles Sonnier. Carrow died February 5, 1983 at Matagorda General Hospital. Survivors include parents, Wesley L. and Susan R. Carrow of Bay City; sister, Kimberly Ann Carrow of Bay City; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Russell Jr. of Friendswood; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Carrow Jr. of Corpus Christi. Carrow was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Rosary was said 7 pm Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed funeral services at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers included Marc Carrow, Mike Webb, Neal Vogelheim, Joe Henkel, Rod Woodard and Steve Holz. Arrangements with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Daily Tribune, February 7, 1983 A five-year- old Bay City boy was killed Saturday afternoon in a hit and run accident in the 2800 block of 1st Street, police said today. The victim, Chad Carrow of 2604 Live Oak, was transferred by ambulance to Matagorda County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 pm. Police said he was walking west with his sister, Kimberly, along 1st Street about 4 pm when a pick-up struck him, causing massive head injuries, according to the police report. Officer Robert Garcia said police theorized the truck may have veered slightly, as the child was not believed to be walking in the road. Detective David Kile said investigation has provided police with a partial description of the vehicle—a blue and white pick-up with a roll bar or “headache rack”, possible a Chevrolet. The truck is believed to have contained some slight damage to the right side, police said. The truck is believed to have contained white female and a white male at the time of the incident, Kile said. He also said police would welcome information from the public. “Everything would be kept confidential,” he added. Chad was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley L. Carrow. The funeral was held here Sunday.

J. L. “Butch” Cashion went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2025. Butch was born on September 6, 1943, in Almeda, in Harris County, TX. He is preceded in death by his Mother Mary Elizabeth Cashion, Father David Malcom Cashion and brothers Billy Cashion and Jimmy Cashion. Butch is survived by his brother Tommy Cashion and wife Kitty, and their daughters Deanne, Lena, and Tommie Lynne. He is also survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Sandra Cashion; his children, Steve Cashion and wife Kim, Tina Keen and husband Troy, and Nathan Cashion and wife Martha; his grandchildren, Maegan Griffith, Leighton Keen, Cole Cashion, and Cullen Cashion; and great-grandchildren, Walker and Parker Griffith and multiple nieces. Butch graduated from Bay City High School in 1962 and went to work for Celanese Chemical Company from ’63-’71 in maintenance. He later graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy as a Highway Patrolman and worked for them from ’71-’75. After serving in public safety, he traveled the world in Mexico, Netherland -Antilles, Syria, Hong Kong, St. Croix Virgin Islands and Algeria working in construction management with Ebasco Service from ’79-’86, Brown & Root ’86-‘98 before returning home to open Riverbend Restaurant in Matagorda in ‘98, which he and Sandra operated for 19 years. One of his favorite pastimes at the restaurant was feeding the wild hogs across the river, earning him the nickname “The Hog Whisperer.” In his later years, Butch could often be found walking his dogs through the neighborhood—always on the lookout for his next “treasure.” His love for Sandra was steadfast and unconditional. Known for his quick wit and sharp commentary on politics, sports, and life in general, Butch’s humor was as entertaining as it was insightful. He loved the outdoors, especially riding his Harley and fishing in the surf, passions that will forever remain part of his legacy. The absence of his lively spirit, humor, and colorful storytelling will leave a lasting void in the hearts of all who knew him. While Butch will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he was more than prepared to meet his Lord and Savior. He had run his race and was ready to go home. The family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 1, 2025 with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Father Stephen Vacek Officiating. Ernestina Chapa, 94, of Van Vleck passed away December 11, 2024. She was born August 3, 1930 in San Benito, Texas to the late Santos De La Rosa and Cecelia De La Rosa. The Chapa family originally lived in Harlingen TX until they moved to the Bay City area in 1977. They then moved to Van Vleck to enjoy retirement. She always looked forward to visits from her family especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ernestina was well known in the area for her wonderful homemade tamales. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Maricela Chapa Kubeczka and her son Noel Chapa Sr. Survivors include her husband Cesar Chapa Sr.; sons Rolondo Chapa (Dareth), Cesar Chapa (Marilyn Ball), Eduardo Chapa (Susie) and Oscar Chapa; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Service for Calletano Chavez Jr., 44, of Bay City, has been set for 2 pm Sunday at La Philadelphia Pentecostal Church, with interment at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Mr. Chavez was born Oct. 12, 1941, in Mexico. He died at 12:15 am Dec. 27, 1985, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was a resident of Bay City for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Rodriguez Chavez of Bay City; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calletano Chavez Sr. of Mexico; and a son, Fernando Chavez of Dallas. Sandra Kaye Claybourn, a beacon of love and faith, was born on May 8, 1947, in Abilene, Texas. She peacefully entered eternal rest on December 5, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Sandra's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of devotion, creativity, and an unwavering faith that guided her every step. Growing up in the close-knit community of Bay City, Texas, Sandra's early years were filled with laughter and learning. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1965, a milestone that marked the beginning of a journey defined by passion and purpose. Sandra's love for beauty and style led her to pursue a career in cosmetology, where she not only honed her skills but also touched the lives of many with her warmth and talent. Owning her own beauty shop, she transformed it into a haven of creativity and friendship, where clients became lifelong friends. Sandra's creativity knew no bounds. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in crafts, such making her own jewelry and greeting cards, cake decorating, and particularly crocheting, where each stitch was a testament to her patience and artistry. She generously gifted family and friends with her creations. Her adventurous spirit took her on journeys by air, train, and cruise ship, exploring new places and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Family was the cornerstone of Sandra's life. She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Morris Smith, her mother, Virginia Forrest Tanner, her sister, Chrysteen Marie Kuhns, and the love of her life, and husband of 30 years, Jon N. Claybourn, Sr. Yet, her legacy of love continues through her sons, Christopher Morris Johnston and his wife Veta, and Leslie Eugene Johnston. Her stepsons, Jon N. Claybourn Sr., Guy Lane Claybourn and his wife Christine, and Michael Lacey Claybourn and his wife Diana, hold her memory close to their hearts. Sandra's spirit shines brightly in her grandchildren: Lauren Schyler Broussard, Grant Christopher Johnston, Kayla Ballard, Stephanie Ramirez, Becca Claybourn, Guy Claybourn, Christi Batchelor, Jo Marie Salter, Michael Claybourn, Jr., Jennifer Calderon, and Clarisa Claybourn. Her love extends to her 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity. A devoted Christian, Sandra's life was a testament to her deep faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her family finds solace in the belief that she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jon, in their heavenly home, embraced by the love of her Savior. Sandra Kaye Claybourn's legacy is one of love, faith, and creativity. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her, a reminder of the beauty and joy she brought into the world. Lowell Don Claxton Jr., 72, of Blessing, Texas, passed away on November 6, 2025. He was born on September 19, 1953, in Newport, Arkansas, to Lowell Don Claxton Sr. and Mary Sue Stoud Claxton. Donny was a fan of baseball, with his favorite team being the Astros. However, his true passion was teaching young people the sport. Donny coached Little League for many years, and it was one of his favorite hobbies. Some of Donny’s other favorite pastimes included saltwater fishing, hunting whitetail deer, and gardening. Donny retired from Celanese as an I&C lead technician. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Claxton; his parents, Lowell and Mary Sue Claxton; and his brother, Russell Claxton. He is survived by his son, James Claxton; his brothers, Michael Claxton and Chris Claxton; and his sister, Brenda Claxton.

Billie Ray Clifton, a proud and skilled millwright, passed away peacefully on 12/6/2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on 4/28/1957 in Bay City, TX, Billie spent a lifetime perfecting his craft and lending his expertise to countless projects, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. When not working with precision and dedication in his trade, Billie could be found in the great outdoors, where he truly felt at home. A passionate fisherman and avid hunter, he cherished early mornings on the water and evenings in the woods. His stories of the one that got away and the thrill of a successful hunt were always shared with a twinkle in his eye and a warm laugh. Billie was a loving father, grandfather, & friend, whose spontaneity & humor left a mark on all who knew him. He is survived by his sister Sharon Kay Smith & husband Roy, his children, son Mark Clifton, son Michael Clifton and wife Brooke, daughter Tara Clifton, and daughter Taelor Fletcher and husband Micheal, along with 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and countless other loving family members, who will carry forward his lessons of hard work and an appreciation for nature's beauty. John Lee Chipman, 79, of Francitas, Texas passed away on February 23, 2025. He was born on November 19, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas to the late George H. Chipman and Evelyn Martin Chipman. John had to quit school early to help his father repair roofs. From that early experience, he started his own company, Chipman Construction, in 1975. In 1983, he moved his family from Brenham, Texas to Francitas, Texas and along with his wife, Virginia, continued the construction business in Palacios. Once involved in the Palacios community, he became an active member of the Palacios Chamber of Commerce (President 2006 and 2007), PEDC, Palacios Supporters, Bank Board of Director and may other organizations and activities in the community. In 2004 he was awarded Palacios Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year and in 2006 he was awarded Man of the Year. In 2016, he was awarded the prestigious MCEDC George Holst Award. After many successful years, he decided to retire and sold his business in 2013. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Chipman, Raymond Chipman and Robert Chipman; sisters Patricia Dake and Debra Blair; brother-in-law Raymond Koch; daughter Rhonda Lewis; son-in-law Mark Dunn and great grandson Weston Lee Hunt. John is survived by his wife of 49 years Virginia Chipman; daughter Monica Dunn (Greg); son Greg Chipman (Miros); grandsons Ryan Lewis and Matthew Dunn (Courtney); granddaughter Marissa Hunt (Jeremy) and great granddaughters Presley Hunt, Paisley Hunt and Brooklyn Deleon. He was the best husband, dad, papaw and friend to everyone who knew him. Virginia Lee “Ginny” Condit, 80, of Bay City passed away November 10, 2024. She was born December 29, 1943 in Salina, Kansas to the late Lee Mathews and Alberta Miller Mathews. She was a retail manager for Kincer Food Store for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking, watching her Houston Astros, crocheting, knitting and going to the casinos. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Condit. Survivors include her daughter Missy Condit Roberts (Jake); son Michael Ray Condit (Tracy); grandchildren Haley Condit and Tori Nash (Mike); great grandchildren Logan Castillio and Evelyn Nash and her long-time companion Thomas Gray. Horseshoe Bay, Texas – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Huey Todd Corry Jr on May 21, 2025. Todd was born on October 4, 1948, in Dallas, Texas to Bettye and Huey Todd Corry Sr. While Todd grew up in Dallas and grew his career there, he eventually moved to Houston in 1999 and later happily retired in Horseshoe Bay. Todd was known for being a great father, caring husband, and true friend to so many. Todd enjoyed his career as CEO of Way Engineering, where his wit and supportive nature made him a respected leader. Todd had a zest for life and will be missed for his endearing laugh, love of nature, and outgoing spirit! He was the biggest fan of his beloved Arizona Sun Devils, and had a passion for dining and sweet treats!. He loved traveling often to Colorado and Jackson Hole as well as other places throughout the US and world. On trips he especially enjoyed leisurely driving around while sightseeing and exploring potential real estate opportunities. He is survived by his loving wife Gayle Hahn, whom he married in November 2019, his son Trey Corry, daughter-in-law Marci Corry, grandchildren Caroline and Colt Corry, step-grandchildren Breanne, Presley, and Avery, and step-sons Scott and Shane. Todd was preceded in death by his lovely first wife, Sharon Corry. A memorial service will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday the 28th of May 2025 at The Church at Horseshoe Bay Chapel. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the Fellowship Hall at The Church at Horseshoe Bay. Corrina was born on October 28, 1955, in Bay City, Texas to parents John Valdez and Angelina Charles. She fell asleep in death on January 6th at the age of 70 surrounded by her closest family members. Corrina is preceded in death by her parents, John and Angelina Valdez. Siblings, Cuca Cox and Guadalupe “Tico” Valdez. She is survived by her husband of 48 years David Cortez, and daughter Sonya Cortez; her daughter Sandra Cano and son in law Christon Cano; siblings, her brother Gene Hernandez and his wife Delia; her sister Mary Rose and her husband Roger Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, friends and a large spiritual family who she dearly loved. She worked as a teacher’s aide and an ESL teacher in the Van Vleck school system for 25 years, but her longest occupation was sharing the greatest gift she had with her community; the gift of knowing her heavenly father Jehovah God. In 2015 she retired and used the next ten years doing what she did best. She always used her time doing for others. Corrina was a woman of faith and often expressed her deep love for Jehovah God by sharing in a volunteer ministry. She set an excellent example of what it means to be self-sacrificing. Corrina will be missed greatly by her family and all those who knew her. To know her was to love her. James Nelson Cowger, 86, of Markham passed away March 11, 2025. He was born February 16, 1939 in Bay City to the late Harry James Cowger and Evelyn Grace Schulte Cowger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Cowger. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joyce Cowger; daughters Laura Cowger Gonzales, Karen Cowger Boswell and April Thompson (Brad); son James Nelson Cowger II; sisters Deedy Cowger Huffman (David), Janie Cowger Watkins and Paulina Cowger Goodman (Timmy); grandchildren Sabria Sill, Miranda Gonzales, Harry Cowger, Heather Cowger, Hannah Cowger, Katie Milam, Alexander Milam, Christiane Milam, Randi Lyons, Daniel Thompson, Geneva Thompson and Cody Thompson and great grandchildren Norah Sill, Emmett Boone, Ethan Milam, Weston Milam and Reese Lyons. Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edwin Logan, Cody Thompson, Harry Cowger, Keith Shuttlesworth, Grayson Cowger Huffman and Brad Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexander Milam, James Nelson Cowger II, David Huffman and Daniel Thompson.

Roy Clifton Craft, 96, of Bay City passed away January 19, 2026. He was born February 26, 1929 in Iowa Park, Texas to the late Jesse Irvin Craft and Josephine Beatrice Fulcher Craft. Roy served in the Army as a surgical technician in the first MASH unit during the Korean War. He was active in the Bay City Lions Club International. He was previously active in the First Methodist Church of Bay City Choir and the Bay City Coastalaires. He was a member of the American Health Physics Society. He was employed by DuPont and the South Texas Project, before consulting in Health Physics before his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons William Paul Craft, John David Craft, and Jesse Irvin Craft II. Survivors include his wife Alta Mae Brock Craft; daughters Judy Kay Craft (David Huffman) and Patti Aline Craft; son Stephen Roy Craft (Louanne); daughter-in-law Cindy Rutledge; grandchildren Benjamin Franklin Craft-Rendon, Susan Beatrice Craft-Rendon, Jesse Irvin Craft III, David Alan Craft, Alexander Stephen Craft and Meghan Elizabeth Craft and great grandchildren Titus Craft, Luke Craft, Elliott Craft and Lucy Craft. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 12:00 PM, at the First Methodist Church in Bay City. Christopher Paul Crummett, 60, of Bay City passed away September 26, 205. He was born April 21, 1965 in Galveston, Texas to the late Jack Robert Crummett and Angela Arfele Crummett. Survivors include his wife Kimberly Crummett; children Heather Crummett, Jennifer Leteff (James), Heather Conway (Sam) and Stephen Fillip; sisters Karen Crummett Sawyer and Camille Bivens; brothers Jack Crummett and John Crummett and grandchildren Major Leteff, Luke Leteff, Charlie Fillip, Natalie Fillip, Simon Conway, Jacob Conway, Paul Conway and Anthony Conway. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday, October 3, 2025 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM with Rev. Stephen Vacek officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, October 3, 2025 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery; 2506 65th St.; Galveston, TX 77551. Pallbearers will be Sam Conway, Derrick Etzel, Ryan Crummett, John Crummett, Jonathan Crummett and Matthew Etzel. Born October 10, 1936, in San Saba, Texas to Ernest and Flora Bell (Vaughn) Cummings. He was a Horse trainer and Ranch foreman most of his career. He carried a gentle wisdom forged through decades of hard work beneath wide Texas skies, guiding both horses and people with the same patient hand. A man of many roles and many names, his life left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Cynthia Gail (Randy) Allen in 2006, and by two brothers and four sisters. Survived by daughter Telisa (Michael) Saffer of Glen Rose, Texas and one son Greg (Lise’) Cummings of Blessing, Texas four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. “Some know his as Harlon. Some know him as Gene. Some know him as Harlon Gene. Some know him as Uncle Harlon. Some know him as Pawpaw. Some know him as Daddy. Some know his as a Friend.”
