Funeral mass for Ignacio Bernudez Cantu, 54, of Bay City, will
be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000 at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating.
Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 at
Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Cantu died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000 in Galveston. He was born
Feb. 3, 1945 in Goliad, Texas to Julian and Guadalupe Bernudez
Cantu.
He was a resident of Bay City since 1985, a member of Our Lady
of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a retired machine operator at
Texas Gulf Sulphur Company.
He is survived by: his wife, Esther Oros Cantu of Bay City;
daughters, Christelle and Laurie Cantu of Bay City; sister,
Irene Juarez of Boling, Ophelia Botello of Wharton, Rebecca
Montoya and Sonia Cantu of Boling; and by his brothers, Raymond
Cantu of Boling and Julian Cantu, Jr. of Alief.

Shane Dickerson Carter, of Montgomery, Texas, left this world
and joined her Heavenly Father on September 23, 2005.
She was born to John and Joan Dickerson on February 27, 1955, in
Bay City, Texas.
Shane grew up in Bay City and lived her early adult years there.
She graduated in 1977 from Southwest Texas State University with
a degree in Interior Design.
A member of ASID, she was co-owner and designer of Interiors by
Shane in Bay City for many years, and later was a partner in
Lagniappe.
In 1988, Shane married Don Carter and moved to the Conroe area.
The family has since resided in Walden on Lake Conroe.
Because of Don’s career with Edward Jones, Shane had many
rewarding friendships and experiences with the Edward Jones
“family.”ť
Shane was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend. A
talented designer by training and instinct, she also was people
oriented, as her former clients would attest.
Shane possessed a lifelong passion for dance, from childhood
recitals, to the disco dance floor, to her middle-age tap
lessons and performances.
Her positive outlook, her sense of style and her exuberant
personality will be sorely missed.
Services for Shane will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 29,
2005, at Metcalf Funeral Chapel in Conroe, with the Rev. Mike
Landes and the Rev. Mike Steele officiating.
A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. at Cedarvale Cemetery
(north entrance) in Bay City, with the Rev. John Pope
officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Metcalf
Funeral Home.
Shane is survived by: her husband, Don Carter; son, Mark;
parents, John and Joan Dickerson; siblings, John Dickerson III
and Jane Dickerson; nieces, Evan Wheat, Lauren Wheat and
Caroline Dickerson; and nephew, Hawes Dickerson.
In addition, she is survived by Lynn Longwill, Barb Holt, Rita
Hinds, Diana Mathis, Cindy Garrett, Bruce Larson (Mark’s
godfather) and a host of other friends and family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Carter, Don Heathcott, Jimmy
Maxwell, Duane Rossmann and Bruce Larson,

of Bay City, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002.
He was born May 4, 1955, in Bay City, to Marsella Villanueva
Castillo of Bay City and the late Filemon Castillo. He was the
owner and operator of Castillo Photography.
Survivors: mother, sister, Jennifer Kay Castillo of Corpus
Christi; and brother, Leo Castillo of Bay City.

Funeral Services Conducted Tuesday For E. C. Catchings
Funeral
services were held Tuesday afternoon for Elic C. Catchings,
who died Monday morning in Matagorda General Hospital.
Burial
was in Cedarvale Cemetery with Bishop Bryan Ellis of the
Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints officiating.
The Bay
City I. O. O. F. Lodge had charge of graveside services.
Mr.
Catchings is survived by his wife; six daughters, Nancy
Carroll, Vera Alene, Mrs. Ruth Graham and Mrs. Mae Royster,
all of Bay City, Mrs. Dale Brewer of Odessa; and Mrs. Norman
Lettieri of New York.

surviving are one sister and four brothers.

Consuelo R. Cervantes
BAY CITY - Consuelo Reyes
Cervantes, 86, of Bay City, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003.
She was born April 5, 1918, in Oklahoma City, to the late
Vidal and Carmen Guzman Cantu. She was a homemaker and a
member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City.
Survivors: daughters, Mary Ester Trevino, Yolanda Perez,
Mary Mendoza and Frances Cortez, all of Bay City, Hortencia
Garcia of Rosenberg, Connie Alamia of Palacios and Virginia
Cervantes of Van Vleck; sons, Ruben Garcia and Ernest
Cervantes Sr., both of Bay City, Pete Cervantes Jr. and
Arthur Cervantes Sr., both of Van Vleck, Richard Cervantes
Sr. of Sugar Valley and George Cervantes of West Columbia;
47 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Pete Cervantes Sr.; and
parents.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Taylor

Daniel M. Cervantes, 60, of Bay City, died November 1, 2004 at
the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
He was born February 26, 1944 in Cuero, Texas to the late John
and Louisa Muniz Cervantes.
Daniel was a resident of Bay City the past 52 years and a member
of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No.
3070, and was the maintenance man for Holy Cross Catholic
Church.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Ann Acosta Cervantes of Bay City;
son, John Christopher “Chris” Cervantes of Pflugerville, Texas;
sister, Irene Ramirez of Bay City; and two grandchildren, Ty and
Cloe Cervantes, both of Pflugerville, Texas.
Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Taylor
Bros. Funeral Home.
The funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic
Church, with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.
Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

A former resident of Blessing, Texas, and
longtime resident of Port LaVaca, Texas, Billy D. Chandler, born
July 3, 1941, passed away from illness June 8, 2011.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, William
and Jackie Chandler; and his son, Matthew Chandler.
He is survived by: his brother, Joe H. Chandler;
and his sister and brother-in-law, Jack and Doris Day.
He also is survived by: his two sons, Chad Lee
Chandler and Mike Chandler and his wife Trish; his daughter,
Malinda Reddell and her husband Mike; as well as nine
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial was held, celebrating his life, in El
Campo, July 23, 2011.

CLEMVILLE -
Forrest Adolph Chanik, 61, of Clemville, passed away at home on
Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. He was born in Palacios to Adolph Tom and
Annie Chanik.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommie Joe;
sisters, Ruth Chanik, Lillie McElroy, Geneva Smith, and Martha
Chanik; and daughter, Tonya Chanik.
He is survived by his sons, Jamie, Ira (and Tiffany May), and
Darrien Chanik; daughter, Julie Lara (and husband Mario);
granddaughter, Abrea; and sisters, Mittie Glass, Joyce Cowger,
Olita Nance and Kay Dry.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3,
2011 at the Nazarene Church, 1313 Avenue G, in Bay City.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to the Nazarene Church of Bay City.

Arnulfo Charles, 52, of Bay City,
passed away October 31, 2011 at his residence.
He was born on July 20, 1959, in Bay
City to Louis Charles and Enedina Jimenez and worked as a
painter.
He is survived by: his daughters,
Brittany Charles of San Antonio and Jessica Charles of Wharton;
son, Arnold Charles of Lake Jackson; four brothers, David,
Arthur and Joe Charles all of Bay City and Louis Solis of
Hungerford, Texas; sisters, Anna Charles, Virginia Jimenez, Irma
Villarreal, Gloria Vasquez, all of Bay City.
His parents proceeded him in death.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until
2 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011, at the Rose of Sharon in Van
Vleck, Texas.

Enedina J. "Annie" Charles, 72, of Bay City died April 21, 2001
at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
She was born January 4, 1929 in Cuero, Texas to the late Jose
and Felicitas Munoz Jimenez. Mrs. Charles was a lifelong
resident of Bay City.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Oscar
Jimenez, Irma and Ynes Villarreal, Jr., Eva and Joe Garza,
Gloria and Danny Vasquez and Anna Charles all of Bay City; sons

Richard Charles, 52 (Limbo) a long time resident of Bay City
passed away September 14, 2000.
Mr. Charles was born October 27, 1947 in Bay City to the late
Louis Charles and Enedina J. Charles. He graduated from Bay City
High School in 1968. He then enlisted in the U. S. Navy.

PALACIOS - A memorial service for Robert G. Christianson, 85, of
Palacios, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 17, 2011, at
First Presbyterian Church in Palacios.
Mr. Christianson was born April 18, 1925, in LaCrosse, Wis., to
the late Casper and Esther Houska Christianson. He passed away
April 10, 2011.
He graduated from LaCrosse Central High School and the
University of Wisconsin. He was part of the 'Great Generation'
and served in the Navy as an AEM during
World War II. He worked with
the FAA until retiring. Later, he went to work for STP and
retired again. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and
served as a Deacon and Elder.
He is survived by his cousin, Kathy Morrison, and niece, Linda
Hunt.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia, in 1995;
his second wife, Dottie, in July 2009; and son, Neal, in
September 2009.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church
of Palacios or to the charity of donor's choice.

Services for Gussie Lee Clark, 78, of Edna are scheduled for 2
p.m. Saturday at Edna Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Lloyd Watson will officiate.
Clark died July 7 at a Victoria hospital.
She is survived by her sons Silburn Jefferson Clark Jr. and
Gerald Clark of Edna; her brother Posey Augustus McLendon, Jr.
of Bay City; and by seven grandchildren.
A member of the First Christian Church of Ganado, Clark was a
member of the Edna Presbyterian Night Circle and the Eleanor
Brackenridge Literary Club. She belonged to the Texana Museum
and Historical Society, and was a member of the DAR, the
Colonial Dames and an honorary member of the Daughters of the
Republic of Texas.
Following graveside services at 4 p.m., burial is scheduled to
take place at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
Pallbearers are to be G. A. Jennings, Bob McCarn, Troy Curlee,
Burt Binderwald, J. Fisher Smith and Harvey Henderson.

A memorial service for Glenn Dale ‘Popsy’
Claybourn, Jr., 87, of League City, Tx. will be held at 10 a.m.
Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Clear Creek Community Church in
League City, Tx.
Glenn Dale “Popsy” or “Bubba” Claybourn, Jr. was born on Oct.
11, 1923 in Dallas, Tx. to Glenn Dale and Clara Claybourn. He
passed away June 23, 2011, in League City.
Glenn’s family moved to Palacios, Texas in 1933 where he went
through school. He was drafted in to the U.S. Army January 27,
1943. Glenn was inducted at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, and
was transferred to Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Little Rock,
Arkansas for basic training. In June of 1943, he was transferred
to Camp Fannin in Tyler, Texas, where he served in the motor
pool. While at Camp Fannin, he met, fell in love with, and
married Gladys Davidson on April 30, 1944. He served in World
War II in the 2nd Armored Division 41st Armored Infantry,
Company F. He was wounded in the arm on October 6, 1944 in
Aachen, Germany and spent the remainder of his tour in El Paso,
Texas until his discharge in September of 1945. He was a
recipient of the Purple Heart.
Glenn worked for Houston Natural Gas in Palacios for many years.
Throughout his career he was transferred to Beeville, Dickinson,
Silsbee, Victoria, Clear Lake City and then circled back to
Victoria, Texas where he went to work for Houston Pipe Line. He
retired from Houston Pipe Line in 1984, and moved to their
retirement home in Wimberley, Texas. More recently they moved to
Kemah, Texas to be closer to their family. Glenn most recently
attended Clear Creek Community Church in League City, Texas.
He is survived by his daughter, Jan Alexander and son in law,
Richard Alexander of Dickinson, Texas; grandchildren: Samy Mears
and husband Aaron of Dickinson, Texas, Dona Rowe and husband
Corey of Pearland, Texas; great grandchildren: Reagan and
Alexander Mears, and Gracelynn Rowe; Special family friend &
neighbor: Christie Johnson of Wimberley, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Gladys; and
his parents Glenn Dale and Clara Claybourn, and his sister,
Irene “Buffy” Buffaloe, and brother in law Glenn Buffaloe.

Margaret "Margie" Clayton, 77, of Bay City, passed away Sunday,
February 13, 2005.
She was born June 17, 1927 in Macon, Missouri to Eugene Staats
and Mary Lucinda Green Staats. She was a resident of Bay City
since 1953.
She is survived by her husband: A. G. Clayton of Bay City; by
her daughter and son-in-law: Janice & G.L. "Butch" Durochez of
Cypress; by her son and daughter-in-law: Michael & Malda Clayton
of Bay City; her sister: Dorothy Anderson of Wisconsin; her
bother: Donald Staats of Missouri; and by her grandsons: Patrick
Durochez of Conroe and Scott Durochez of Cypress. She was
preceded in death by her parents: Eugene & Mary Staats; her

Vera Fay Clements, 77, of Bay City passed away December 23, 2004
at her residence.
She was born December 27, 1926 in Bay City, Texas to Louis Frank
Kocurek and Leona Virginia Socha Kocurek.
She was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of the
Nichols Road Church of Christ.
Mrs. Clements was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Odis
Clements, and one sister, Ruby Shawler.
She is survived by: one daughter, Connie Clements of Pearland;
and by two sisters, Flossie Dreher of Bay City, and Thelma
Gelber of Wharton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 27,
2004, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Don Storey

Funeral services for Marvin O. Clements, 73, of

Mr. Clements was born Aug. 7, 1919 in Cedar Lane
to Clemy Thomas Clements and Ruby Mertie Lynch Clements and died
Feb. 26, 1993.
He was a member of the Baptist church, a
life-long resident of Bay City and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Clements of Bay

Mae Bump Powell Coffman, 95,
longtime resident of Blessing passed away December 26, 2011 in
Spring, Texas.
She was born May 26, 1916 to Charles
and Mary Alice Jones Bump. She was preceded in death by her
husband Dick Powell, daughter Frances Powell Witham and her
second husband H. D. Coffman.
Mae was a retired social worker for
the poor and elderly of Matagorda County. She was active in St.
John’s Episcopal Church in Palacios and the Hawley Cemetery
Board for many years.
Mae is survived by her grandson
Walter Witham & wife Michelle of Spring; great grandson William
Witham of Spring, TX; in-law family Bill & Sharon Isereau of
Lake Jackson and special caregiver Lucille Serrano of Spring.

Coker was born March 28, 1895 in Temple, Texas. He had been a
resident of Bay City for many years and was a member of First

Maurine DeLano Cole, 93, of Bay City, died early Monday morning,
May 3, 2004, at her home.
She was born April 13, 1911 in Bay City, to the late Zac and
Trannie Nuckels DeLano. Maurine graduated from Jefferson Davis
High School in Bay City in 1929 as valedictorian of her class.
She was active as a young person in her church and community.
Maurine continued throughout her life giving to her church and
the community, leaving a legacy of service and love.
Maurine worked many years for First National Bank, which she
considered her family, treasuring those years of service in the
business world.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church,
serving on the administration board in the 1980s. She also was a
member of the Fellowship Class, and a member of the McAllister
Memorial Scholarship and Loan Fund Committee.
Maurine was a member of the Bay City Cemetery Association Board
of Directors and Trust. She was a charter member of the Mary
Rolph Marsh Chapter, DAR; a member of the Pilot Club of Bay
City; and a member of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron
in 1939.
Survivors include: her daughters, Cordelia Douglas and Cecile
Janssen and husband Elgin, all of Bay City; sister, Martha Jane
Etie of Bay City; grandchildren, Chris Janssen and wife Jodi of
Portland, Texas, Randy Janssen of Stephenville, Texas, Kellie
Maxwell, Debbie Henrichsen and husband John, all of Bay City;
great-grandchildren, Emily Janssen, Tony Maxwell, Seth
Henrichsen, and Caleb Henrichsen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron R. Cole, in
1977.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the
First United Methodist Church, with the Reverends Kevin Young

born March 15, 1919 in Wharton to the late Manerva Jane Jones &
Courtis Freeman Cone Sr. She lived In Boling for many years,
worked in Wharton during World War II, was trained as a X-Ray
Tech at Herman Hospital in Houston, was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Houston & Sealy. When she retired, she moved
to Silver Lake Retirement Center in Sealy.

C. L. Cook, 65, of Bay City went to be with our Heavenly Father
on July 19, 2011. He was born June 1, 1946, in Bay City to Cyrus
Lafayette Cook Sr. and Christine Harrison Cook. C. L. loved the
Lord with all his heart and served Him well. He adored his wife,
whom he often referred to as “Baby.” He spent many happy days
fishing with his family and always had a story to tell about one
of his six grandbabies. He lived his faith and set a great
example of what a husband, father and friend should be. He
worked most of his life in farming and turf management, and
spent the past 10 years as the Grounds Supervisor for BCISD,
touching the lives of his co-workers and crew. Survivors include
his cherished wife, Melissa Hill Cook; beloved sons, Harrison
Cook and wife, Christy, of El Campo and David Cook and wife,
Amber, of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; brother, Donald Cook of
Port Lavaca; sister, Margaret West of Lake Jackson; and
grandchildren, Harrison Cook Jr., Katy, Josh, Jackson, Gracie
and Anastyn Cook. The family will receive friends and relatives

VICTORIA - Florine Ann Bielstien Cornelius, 82, of
Victoria, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Nov. 15,
2011 with all of her family by her side. She was
born February 12, 1929 in Victoria to Floyd William
Bielstien and Mary Angela Keclik. She was a member
of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and was
a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She
was salutatorian of the Nazareth Academy Class of
1946 and graduated from Victoria Junior College in
1948. She served on the Board of Directors at
Incarnate Word College and was Chairman of the State
Republican Executive Committee. She was a Charter
Member of the Court of Six Flags, member of Bronte
Club, served on the Board of Directors for the Youth
Home of Victoria and served as President of the PTA
at Nazareth Academy.
She
is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Simon
Casper Cornelius; daughters, Yvette Jircik and
husband Jan of Houston, Andre Cornelius of New York,
Amanda Parker and husband Tim of Friendswood; son,
Simon Cornelius Jr., and wife Shelly of Tomball; and
nine grandchildren who dearly loved their "Mina".
A
Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic
Church on Thursday Nov. 17, 2011, with Father
Celestino Say officiating. Funeral Mass will begin
at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, with

Funeral services for George Cowan, 64 of Bay City, will be
held at 10 am on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999 at Taylor

Cowan died on Jan. 30, 1999 at Memorial Southwest Hospital
in Houston. He was born Feb. 24, 1934 in Coppers Cove,
Texas to the late George Henry and Lillie Virginia Smith
Cowan.
He was a member of the Brigance Road Baptist Church in Wild
Peach, a former long-time resident of Brazoria County, and a
resident of Bay City for three and one half years.
He and his wife had operated several restaurants in Brazoria
County.
Survivors include his wife Victorine Cowan of Bay City;
daughter and son-in-law Linda Kay and Walter Penny of
Memphis, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law Mary Jo and Lloyd
Emerson of Ponca, Ark.; three grandchildren Layne Fowler of
Houston, Lance Fowler of Spring, and Lynee Shipman of Tulsa,
Okla.; and sis great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his brothers Charles, Bill,

Victorine “Vicky” Cowan, 86,
went to join her beloved husband, George in eternal rest on
March 25, 2007.
She was born April 30, 1920 in Cheapside, Texas to Joy and
Corinne Cleveland. She moved by Brazoria in the 1950’s and
remained there until moving to Bay City 15 years ago. Her
Passion was cooking for friends and family. Mrs. Cowan owned
many restaurants in and around Brazoria County, the most
recent being The Chat and Chew Café in Wild Peach. She was
famous for her meringue pies and homemade yeast rolls. She
loved to go fishing and camping with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and
Walter Penny of Lake Jackson; three grandchildren, Lynee
Shipman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Layne Fowler of League City,
Texas and Lance Fowler of Spring, Texas; six great
grandchildren; sister, Tempie Newman; and brothers, J. C.
Cleveland and Ray Boyd.
The family received friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday,
March 27, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The Memorial

Evelyn Carr Curnutt, 81, of Markham left this life on August 31,

Mrs. Curnutt was a member of the Nichols Rd. Church of Christ, a
resident of Markham since 1950, an educator , and the first
woman Athletic Director for Tidehaven ISD. She earned a degree
from West Texas State in Canyon, Texas. She served the military
as a civilian pilot for land rescue efforts in Fairbanks,
Alaska. She had a love for adventure, art, history, Alaska and
nature — all this reflected in her many stories, freelance
writings, and many artistic works.
Before moving to Markham, Mrs. Curnutt worked as a teacher for
Boys Ranch, where she enjoyed counseling and giving guidance to
less fortunate youths. Many people knew her affectionately as
“Nana” and “Aunt Evie”. Her passion was serving the Lord and
loving her family and friends.
Survivors include: daughter, Sara Lee Curnutt of Markham;
sister, Joyce Miller of Odessa; granddaughter, Scotty Crow of El
Maton; three grandsons, T. John Crow and his wife Jennifer of
Bay City, Bill Crow and Bryan Crow both of Markham; two great
grandchildren, Laithen and Ashton of Bay City; and many nephews
and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Curnutt and
her sister, Kathleen Mills.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2003, at
the Nichols Rd. Church of Christ with Bro. Joe Wrape
officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be T. John, Bill, and Bryan Crow, Joe Junek,
John Mills, and Tom Curnutt. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug
Miller, J. B. Cochran, Harold, Richard, Wilburn, Kerry, and
Perry Curnutt.
Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rosena Montier Curtis
Mrs. Rosena Montier Curtis, 88, of 2312 Ave. C, Bay
City died March 16 at the Bay Villa Nursing Home
after a brief illness. Survivors include: two sons,
Bob Curtis of Victoria and Morton Curtis of Houston;
one daughter, Mrs. C. H. Hudson of Denver, Colorado;
two brothers, Constance Montier of Port Lavaca and
Dr. J. C. Montier of Victoria; two sisters, Mrs. Mac
Rylander of West Columbia and Mrs. Hermman Hofferman;
six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 19 at 2 p. m. at
St. Marks Episcopal Church with Rev. Milton
McWilliams officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale
Cemetery with active pallbearers being: Bob Peden,
Lawrence Gwin, Frank Lewis, Dan Wendt, Frances
Savage Jr., Pat Matthes and Frank Hawkins; honorary
pallbearers included: Rowland Rugeley, Raleigh
Sanborn, Grady Williamson, Dr. H. C. Matthes, Dr.
Fred Matthes, and Bert Steves. Services under the
direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Community Supporter Dies In Bay City Nursing Home
Long time Bay City resident, Mrs. Rosena Montier
Curtis died March 16 at the Bay Villa Nursing Home
after a brief illness.
Mrs. Curtis was very active in the Bay City
community for a number of years and was a member of
the original family who organized and owned the
Shellfish Restaurant in Port Lavaca.
Locally Mrs. Curtis belonged to various
organizations and was active in many phases of
church work at St. Marks Episcopal Church for 50
years.
She was president of the PTA from 1933 – 1935, was
vice president of Girl Reserves in Bay City from
1935 – 1936, was a member of the Garden Club from
1952 – 1958, and was a member of the Book Review
Club.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at St.
Marks Episcopal Church with interment at the
Cedarvale Cemetery.
