Carroll Byron Cairnes, Jr., was borrn August 5, 1956, on Tachikawa Air Force Base, Japan and he passed away on January 1, 2016 in Palacios.
Carroll was a member of First Baptist Church, Palacios. He had certificates in Lock Smithing and Gemology, graduated from Ocean Corporation and was qualified to go to the bottom of the ocean in the bell. He was a veteran of Special Forces where he earned The Army Achievement Medal plus nine other awards and commendations. Carroll worked 14 years in Health Physics at South Texas Nuclear Project, was a pecan tree farmer and hunting guide. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge on a broad spectrum.
Carroll was very special to his family. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jean Ann and Sammy Davidson, father and stepmother, Carroll, Sr. and Judy Cairnes; sisters Robin Cervenka and Elizabeth (Craig) Alford; brothers Russell Cervenka, Gary Wayne (Janet) Davidson and Kyle Cairnes; nieces Audrey Davidson, Maxine and Eva Alford; nephews Chase Cervenka, Blake Davidson, Jordan Cairnes, Cade and Reese Alford; great-niece Emmie Cervenka; many friends, including PHS Class of ’74, which held a memoriam to celebrate the “Professor’s” life.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Ed Newby and Miriam Falks, paternal grandparents John Carroll and Mildred Cairnes, all of Palacios.

Victor Lee Cannon, passed away Peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on November 9, 2015. Victor was born on October 9, 1952, to Dr. and Mrs. Joe Cannon. He is survived by his wife, Pam Grover Cannon; and children, Shiloh Blackburn, Michael Blackburn, Joseph Cannon, Christina Mereness, Erin King and Audrey Rose; his siblings; 13 grandchildren; and a host of friends. Howard Lonnie Carroll Sr. Funeral services have been set for Howard Lonnie Carroll Sr., 63, who died Sunday in the Houston VA Hospital, for 10:00 AM Wednesday in the Taylor Bros. Howard Eugene Cartwright, 79, of Wadsworth peacefully passed away December 27, 2015 while surrounded by his family. He was born November 28, 1936 in Old Gulf, Texas to the late Greenberry Savage Cartwright and Blanche Myrtle Ingham Cartwright. He worked as a Tugboat Captain for 39 years and later enjoyed working his cattle and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by daughter Susan Elaine Cartwright, sisters Mary Toups and Juanita Bell, brothers Mac Cartwright and Homer Cartwright, and grandchildren Dakota Cartwright and Rachel Ruiz. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Patsy Ruth Armstrong Cartwright; daughters Debra Lopez and Donna Burns; son Howard “Son” Cartwright, Jr.; brothers Robbie Cartwright, Charles Cartwright and Travis Cartwright; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Rutilio Jose Castellanos, 82, of Cuero, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016. He was born June 4, 1933 in Mexico to the late Pablo Castellanos and Zeferina Dominguez. Jose enjoyed music. He loved playing his guitar and singing. Jose was a doting grandfather. Jose is survived by his brothers and sisters, Agustin, Maceria, Juana, Guillermine, Dominga, Fancisco, Aleja; wife Maria Ines Najera; children Jose Albertio, Gaspar, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews. Terry Sue (Thornton) Cheroff, of Palacios, Texas, passed away on January 22, 2016. Terry was born on February 13, 1952, in Little Rock Arkansas, to Bill and Mildred Thornton, of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Terri was preceded in her death by her father, Bill Thornton. She is survived by her son, Zachary Cheroff; mother, Mildred (Beaver) Thornton; sister, Norma (Thornton) Rios; brothers, Chuck and Curtis Thornton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The memorial service will be held at Palacios Church of Christ on February 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. The memorial will be led by Paul Purswell, a close and devoted friend. Ada Ruth Cole, 80, of Bay City passed away Sunday, January 10th, 2016. She was born January 15, 1935 in Tulare, California, to the late William Ariel and Emma Mae Bell West. Ada married the love of her life Rosser Moody Cole, and they spent many wonderful years together. She is survived by her husband, Rosser Cole; daughters, Mona Davenport of Hallettsville and Janie Flemming and husband, Richard, of Bay City; Mr. Cole’s sons, David, Allen, and Raymond of Bay City and Roy of Houston; sister, Mary Lou Gieser of Luling; four grandchildren, Amy Amsden and Jess Davenport of Hallettsville, Courtney DeWitt of Montgomery, and Chance Cartwright of Round Rock; nine great-grandchildren, Preston, Ella, Jack and Wade Amsden of Hallettsville, Emma, Juliet, and Jake Davenport of Hallettsville, River and Rosser DeWitt of Montgomery, and Rayne Cartwright due in April; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that she thought of as her own. Claude was born in Kerens, Navarro County, Texas on March 04, 1930, the youngest of six children, to Claude G. Collins, Sr. and Fannie Ella Burns Collins and he went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Matagorda Regional Medical Center in Bay City, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Claude proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He returned to Palacios and worked at Alcoa Aluminum Company in Point Comfort for 44 years until his retirement in 1994. Claude and Dorothy are members of the Church of God of Prophecy in Palacios.
Claude loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He loved to go fishing and spent many hours on the Tres Palacios River teaching his girls to swim and water ski in the boat he built, on skis he made. Claude also loved to play his guitar and sing. He always had a captive audience, playing music for his girls and the neighborhood kids, The Beecher Street gang. I can only imagine the audience he has now singing with the Angels in the House of the Lord. There was never a kinder more gentle man.
Claude leaves the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Cooper) Collins and daughters, Sandra and husband Scott Haag, Laura and husband Joseph Aoughsten and Patty and husband Ronny Shafer. Seven granddaughters, Tanya and husband Isaac Almeida, Stephanie and husband Louis Bodie, Kathleen Haag, Sarah Haag, Chelsie and husband Brent Myklebust, Michelle and husband T.J. Bartlett and Taylor Aoughsten. Two great granddaughters Morgan Almeida and Brenna Bodie. Claude was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Docia Jane Collins, Mattie Boultinghouse, Wesley Collins, Emma Walker and Claudine Collins.

Dalia was preceded in death by her mother. Frank I. Cooke, 86, of Baytown, TX, was born February 21, 1929, in Fort Worth, TX, and passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and the University of Texas College of Pharmacy. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, where he served as a pharmacist and retired from Scarborough’s Drug Store, in old Baytown. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #1192. Juan “Johnny” Cortez, Jr., 51, of Van Vleck, TX, passed away December 22, 2015.
He was born September 18, 1964, in Bay City, TX, to Juan Cortez Sr. and Eliza Martinez Cortez.
He owned and operated Cortez Concrete and took a great deal of pride in his work. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Celeste Garza Cortez; parents, Juan and Eliza Cortez Sr.; daughter, Celena Eliza Cortez; sons, Juan Cortez III “John” and Joshua Eric Cortez; sisters, Melinda Cortez and Felicia Luna; brothers, Fermin Cortez and Martin Cortez; and grandson, Ayden Izayah Cortez.

Doris Anne Bickham (Joe) Cowart, was born on February 13, 1933, in Bay City, Texas, to parents Bryan and Anne Bickham. She passed away peacefully on August 30, 2015, at home with Tim and Aimee Cowart, in Tow, Texas. Doris, who many knew as “Joe”, was a 1950 graduate of Bay City High School. After attending business school, she worked as an employee of the City of Houston for 17 years, including more than four years as the personal assistant and secretary to Mayor Louie Welch. In Houston, Doris met her sweetheart, Robert Thomas (Bob) Cowart, who she married on September 28, 1957. After moving to Tow, she worked as a real estate broker and was the owner of Cowart Store and Realty. A lifelong Methodist, Joe was a member of the Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church in Llano. Joe was known for her quick wit, sunny disposition, and love of others. Her keen sense of humor was renowned among those who came in contact with her. She spent untold hours serving her community in support of the Tow Volunteer Fire Department, the Ladies Auxiliary, and as a certified Ombudsman at Care Inn of Llano. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Cowart; her parents, Bryan and Anne Bickham; twin brothers, Clifford Bickham and Robert Bickham; and sister, Jean Bickham Kemp. She is survived by her brother, Lane Bickham of New Braunfels; her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Jim Heslip of Canyon Lake; as well as numerous extended family members and beloved friends. The Bickham and Cowart families extend their gratitude to the staff of Llano Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving care. Morris James Crabtree, 75, of Brazoria, Texas, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016, at Sweeny Hospital in Sweeny, Texas. He was born March 2, 1940, in Newlan, Texas, to Otho and Mamie Whitten Crabtree. Morris was known to his family and friends as “Cowboy”. He was a country boy with a strong work ethic. He considered work a privilege. Cowboy was a true family man that respected his parents, adored his children and grandchildren, had a close bond with his siblings, and loved his nieces and nephews. He was so proud of all his family and was a loyal friend to many. He was in his element, working and enjoying ranch life with his partner and love, Bell. He had a dry humor and a big heart…always willing to give a hand and help those in need. James David Craft, 82, of Bay City, Texas, passed away October 12, 2015. He was born April 18, 1933, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Frank D. and Margaret Mearns Craft. Doris Elaine Griggs Crenshaw Doris Elaine Griggs Crenshaw, the daughter of the late Rev. Kenneth James Griggs and Patricia Ann Flagg, was born in Bay City, TX, on July 14, 1973. She has five siblings and two step brothers. She was reared in the church by her grandmother, father and step mother, Seretha Faye Griggs and shared her upbringing with relatives and many friends. She attended public school in the community of her birth and received her General Education of Development. She was a certified nurses aide for twenty years and received her safety license for safety man-woman and also her braiding license. She rededicated her life to God and was baptized in twenty fifteen. She also worked in the plant in the Houston area and also traveled out of town working shut downs. Sister Crenshaw's transition from life to eternity came on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 in Houston, TX. Being confident in the scripture from John 17:4 which says "I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. She was his child, He walked with her and talked with her. And she touched a lot of lives here on earth. She leaves to cherish her precious memories a loving devoted husband, Darryl Lee Monroe Sr. of Cedar Lane, TX.; two sons, Kowin Crenshaw and Jakendric Crenshaw of Bay City, TX and one daughter, Royale Crenshaw of Houston, TX; Four Sisters, Tonika Batties, Jessica Griggs, Kara Griggs of Bay City, and Jane Kenique Griggs of Houston, TX.; Three brothers, Paul Batties of Bay City, Randolph Brown of Richmond-Rosenberg and Lorenzo Brown of Dallas, TX.; One grandson, Kowin Rashad Jr. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends and a beautiful family at Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
