A rosary will be recited for Amelia Acosta, 72, of Brazoria, Wild Peach Community, at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 13, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Mrs. Acosta died May 9, at Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born April 28, 1927, in Cuero, to the late Lorenzo and San Juana Rodriguez, Sr. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, a resident of Brazoria for the past year, and a resident of Bay City for 50 years.
Mrs. Acosta is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Amelia and Harry Shortt of Brazoria and Gayle and Joe Mireles of Port Lavaca; sister, Bertha Rodriguez of Bay City; and grandchildren, Joe Albert Mireles, Gayle Linda Mireles, and Abel Mireles, all of Port Lavaca, and Samantha and Mirissa Shortt, both of Brazoria. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Acosta; brothers, John Rodriguez and Lorenzo Rodriguez, Jr.; and by her sister Julia Valdez.

Thomas P. Alfaro, 55, of Witts Springs, Arkansas, died at 10:44 a.m., Sunday, April 20, 2014, in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born November 6, 1958, in Bay City, Texas, the son of Benigno Alfaro and Rose Alfaro. He is survived by three sons, Joshua Caleb Alfaro of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jason Thomas (and Bobbie) Alfaro of Bernice, Oklahoma, and Justin Paul (and Rachael) Alfaro of Grove, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Sommer Lynn, Caleb Allen, Ava Ann, Cheyenne Lee, Scarlett Rose, Crimson Baxter, Amelia Rose, and Brayson Lane; and seven brothers and sisters, Benigno Alfaro, Patty Estrada, Hector Alfaro, Julio Alfaro, Dolores Maldonado, Leobardo Alfaro, and Rosario Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Thomas was a traveling electrician. He enjoyed working on his cabin and spending time with his grandchildren. Cremation will be accorded. Celebration of his life began at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Marshall Motel and Restaurant, 251 Hwy. 65N, Marshall, Arkansas 72650. Rosalie Hooge Allsup, age 89, passed away peacefully, on Friday, April 24, 2015. She was born on February 16, 1926, in Poteet, Texas, to Alphonse Hooge and Anna Caroline Ripps Hooge. She was one of seven children and grew up in Poteet, Texas, where she worked as a bookkeeper, in her family’s grocery store. On June 5, 1949, she married Thomas Edward Allsup at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Pleasanton, Texas. Rosalie and Thomas lived in various locations in Texas in the early years of their marriage, due to Thomas’ job as a welder for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. In 1965, they built their permanent family home in Bay City, Texas, where they raised their three daughters. Rosalie and Thomas enjoyed 61 happy years together, until Thomas’ death in 2010. Rosalie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her family was the focus of her life. She was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Society for numerous years. Rosalie is survived by two daughters, Leann Barta and husband John of Winnemucca, Nevada, and Rosemary Guentzel and husband Perry of Baytown, Texas; one son-in-law, Robert Williams II of Van Vleck, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Thomas Barta and wife Rachelle of Houston, Texas, Nicholas Barta of College Station, Texas, Elaina Barta of College Station, Texas, Chris Barta of San Luis Obispo, California, Heather Exum and husband Sean of Littlefield, Texas, Robert Williams III of Van Vleck, Texas, Nicole Guentzel, Kelsey Guentzel, Matthew Guentzel and Jonathan Guentzel all of Baytown, Texas; one brother, Leon David Hooge and wife Carole of Poteet, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Allsup; daughter, Amy Allsup Williams; parents, Alphonse and Anna Caroline Hooge; brothers, Louis Anthony Hooge, George Amil Hooge, August Ervin Hooge and Paul Henry Hooge; and sister, Mary Hooge Stiles. Elvira Anderson known as“Vera/Momo” of Clute, Texas went to be with her creator Monday, March 10, 2014. She was born in Raymondsville, Texas to Trinidad Paez and Juan Gonzales and raised in Bay City, Texas. Vera was a long time resident of Lake Jackson, Texas area, residing most recently in Clute. She found joy in raising her children and later enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very family oriented and loved helping others. She had a beautiful heart and everyone was always welcomed and made comfortable in her home. Her favorite color was purple. She LOVED the Dallas Cowboys, hanging out with friends, traveling with her sisters and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her Father, Juan Gonzales; Sister, Maria Luisa Gonzales; Mother, Trinidad Paez; son, Gilbert Gonzales; Brother in law Isabel “Chevy” Gutierrez and Nephew, Joseph Gonzales. Survivors include sons, Michael Mata and wife, Michelle Mata of Converse, Texas, Emilio “Lee” Mata of Clute, Texas. Esther Arias Anzaldua, 70, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born May 13, 1944, in Bay City, Texas to parents Bruno Arias and Esther Zepeda Lopez. Esther was raised in the Bay City area. She married Manuel Anzaldua, Jr. on December 23, 1961 in Bay City. She was a housewife and loved spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren. Esther enjoyed ceramics, painting, reading the Bible, camping, fishing and cooking. Her parents Bruno Arias and Esther Zepeda Lopez preceded her in death. Visitation was held Friday, June 20, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 12 noon, from Wharton Funeral Home Chapel in Wharton, with Brother Bob Hobbins officiating. Burial followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, TX. Serving as pallbearers were Baldamar Mendiola, Michael Hernandez, Medardo Ramirez, Christopher Borger, Anthony Hernandez and Stephen Lowry. The bodies of a husband and wife were found shot to death inside their residence at 202 First Street Tuesday morning in what police say was an apparent murder-suicide. The couple was identified by police as Emmett Earl Armstrong, 60, and Beverly Armstrong, 43. The two were pronounced dead at the scene at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Billy Jalufka. Based on a note police found at the scene, Sgt. Benny DeLeon of the Palacios Police Dept. said it was "pretty clear cut that he shot his wife then shot himself." The couple had moved to Palacios from Hitchcock two months ago. According to Donald Kopecky, camp manager of the Texas Baptist Encampment, the Armstrongs had been employed to do general maintenance at the camp two weeks ago. It was at that time the Armstrongs had moved into the house at 202 First which belonged to the TBE. The bodies were discovered shortly before 10 a. m. Tuesday by Kopecky and TBE administrator Elree Smithart who were concerned when the couple had not been since Saturday morning. Palacios police officer Benny DeLeon said the bodies were found sprawled in separate chairs in the living room. Both had been apparently shot with a .22-caliber rifle which had been found in the room, DeLeon said. The couple's dog was also shot and lying in the same room.

Edith Lucille “Shug” Arnold, 87, went home to the Lord, Sunday, October 19, 2014. Edith was born August 5, 1927 in Needville, Texas the late Anthus and Gladys Laxson Kelley. Edith was a loving and devoted mother, Nannie, sister, aunt & friend, always putting others before herself. She had the most generous heart and touched many lives with her presence. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, daughter, brother and sister. She is survived by her K-9 child and devoted companion: Prissy, children: Linda Williams and Pamela Henricksen; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; sister Hazel Koch; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Palacios Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Rush officiating. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. Elton Maurice Ashcraft, 78, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on March 30, 2014. He was born on July 9, 1935 in Bay City, to the late E.J. and Goldie Mahon Edgar Ashcraft. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired Justice of the Peace of Matagorda County. SSG Anthony Wayne Auld, 32, of Boling, Texas, died in a tragic car accident on September 03, 2014, near Vilseck, Germany. On this day the world lost a man who loved life and the adventure of it all. Anyone who knew Tony could see the greatness that followed him; it overflowed from his heart. Tony believed life was the ultimate adventure. Tony’s love of life, adventures, learning and serving were evident in his everyday life. He loved being outdoors and near the water. He was always ready at a moment’s notice to grab a fishing pole from his mom’s house to go after that next ‘big’ catch. After getting his scuba diving certification, his latest adventure and new found love was cave diving and exploring the ocean. Tony never met a song he didn’t attempt to sing. He never hesitated to pick up a microphone for a bit of Rock Band with his Army family. Tony’s lust for life and smile were infectious. He loved to tell stories of his adventures over and over with a sense of humor like no other. Although capturing a smile in a picture was difficult, Tony rarely went without one. Tony wanted to experience life. With a new wife and desire to learn, Tony started his journey working in the oil field. His dedication and long hours served to prepare him for a life of service. He served his family, community and country with all his heart and ability. He was always ready to jump to service during his tenure with the Boling Volunteer Fire Department. His passion for technical skills pushed him to study and graduate from the institute of robotics and fiber optics. Following the path of his grandfather, whom Tony greatly revered, Tony was a member of the Wharton Masonic Lodge. The camaraderie and brotherhood of the Masons was something Tony always admired. Anyone who knew Tony could see that he thrived when part of a brotherhood. Staff Sargent Auld started his military career by enlisting in the Texas Army National Guard in 1999, at the age of 17. He was later assigned to 1st Brigade, 49th Armor Division as an Aviation Operation Specialist. SSG Auld was deployed with his unit to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2003-2004. In August 2009, he re-enlisted as an 11B Infantryman in the United States Army and was stationed in Ft Polk Louisiana. He was deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in 2010-2011. SSG Auld PCS’ed to Vilseck Germany in April 2012, and was assigned to apache troop 1st Squadron, 2nd Calvary Regiment. He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in 2013 and returned from a successful deployment as a squad leader in Comanche troop. Just as Tony was true to his family, he was true to the Army. He listened honestly to any soldier’s problem and served them in a way to make them feel like they were his highest priority. Tony never used his rank to push soldiers down, but to quietly and calmly lift them up. He stood with his brothers in arms to protect his family at home. Tony had two favorite women in his life, his wife Kasey Auld and his mother Karen Auld. He leaves behind a large extended family including his in-laws, aunts and uncles, God children, his many nieces, nephews and cousins and most of all friends, all over the globe! Following memorial services in Germany, Tony will have visitation in Wharton, Texas on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Wharton Funeral Home, after 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Creekside Church, 16628 Hwy 36, Needville, Texas with the Rev. Greg Garcia officiating. Burial will be held in Needville Public Cemetery with full Military Honors. Graveside services will be under the auspices of Wharton Masonic Lodge.
