Brian Travis Allen was born on March 6, 1972, to Eugene Cushing Allen and Cheryl Collom Allen. Brian peacefully passed from this earth at age 50 on October 14, 2022 at his home in Sargent, Texas. He was the youngest of two boys. He grew up in League City, Texas where he graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1990. When he was 23, he was blessed with his first-born son and right-hand man, Ryan George Allen. Eight years later, a beautiful baby girl, Lindsey Denise Allen, rocked his world. Brian continued to reside in League City until 2021 when he relocated to Sargent to be closer to his father. Brian loved playing soccer, hunting, fishing, and welding. The latter of which ultimately became his career of choice. He was a remarkably talented Heliarc (TIG) welder. He typically worked with stainless steel and was coded to work on several exotic metals. He was meticulous, detail oriented and he took his work very seriously. One of his many passions was creating welded art with an incredible talent for turning old silverware into trinket boxes, ashtrays, sea life, birds and much more. Brian’s biggest passion, however, was his family. Everything he did in life was for his children. They were his greatest pride and best accomplishments. Everyone always knew what Ryan and Lindsey were doing with their lives, as he tended to talk about them every chance he had. He was always doting on their accomplishments, showing his undying love and an overwhelming pride in his children. When his grandchildren came along, they added to his fervor and dedication. In addition to his children, he had a special reverence and love for his mother. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his love of fishing and hunting with his father and brother. His nieces and nephews could not wait to share their accomplishments with their “UB” because he always loved to hear about them and reward them in return. His life wasn’t complete without his friends, or “brothers.” Those who knew Brian would tell you that he was larger than life. He had an engaging personality and never met a stranger. To know Brian was to instantly love him. He had an infectious smile and lit up the room with his presence. His family and friends could tell you different sayings, which were lovingly referred to as “Brian-isms.” Everyone who knew Brian could tell you stories that would entertain you for hours. Brian had so much love in his heart and would give the shirt off his back to a stranger if he thought it was needed. He brought joy to all. Brian is survived by his amazing children, Ryan George Allen (Spouse Arista ‘Kat’) and Lindsey Denise Allen of League City; his adored grandchildren Travis Wayne Allen and Dakota Faith Allen; his father Eugene C. Allen (Wife Kate) of Sargent and mother Cheryl Collom Doyle (Husband Jimmy) of League City; brother Eugene L. Allen (Wife Mica) of Friendswood; nephews Eugene D. Allen, Nicholas Allen (Wife Kayla, children Paisley, Cayden) and Joshua Allen; nieces (“girl nephews”) Sarah Allen and Paelynne Allen; grandmother Eleanor Gillespie along with numerous other much beloved family members. He will leave a hole the size of Texas in our hearts, and we look forward to the day we will join him in Heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project in Brian’s name. www.woundedwarriorproject.org. A GoFundMe page https://gofund.me/4c320dd7 has also been established for the benefit of furthering his children’s education. A memorial service will be held at Hope Fellowship Church, 200 Lake Road, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566 on October 29, 2022. Visitation begins at 10 AM and service at 11 AM with lunch to follow on location.

Roy Eugene Allen, known to all as Gene Allen, died peacefully on September 2, 2023, in Granbury, Texas, at the age of 92. Gene was born in Palacios on June 15, 1931, and lived the majority of his life there. Even when he lived in Houston and Pasadena as a child and teenager, he visited his extended family in Palacios every weekend and school holiday he could. He loved fishing and getting into lighthearted mischief with his brother Perk. Basketball was also a passion of Gene’s, and being tall and thin and athletic, he played to great acclaim for the Pasadena High School Eagles. He would go on to play basketball on a community team in Palacios in the 1960s, sponsored by Jimmy and Pie Flores, until a knee injury forced his early retirement from the team. In 1951, during the Korean War, the United States Air Force came calling with promises of an apprenticeship in the machining and tooling program. Gene signed up readily but was soon shipped off to Greenland, where the apprenticeship never materialized, to his lasting chagrin. He instead worked on American and British airplanes stopping over to refuel before heading to their destinations. After four years of bitter cold, blue glaciers, and midnight sun volleyball, he received his honorable discharge from the Service in 1955. Gene headed back to Texas and attended the University of Houston to obtain his machining and tooling certification. He thereafter moved to Palacios permanently, much to the delight of his extended family and friends. He welcomed the balmy temperatures of Palacios and went fishing with his Dad and Uncle Jimmy every chance he got. Fishing was his passion. Even the coldest days of winter could not stop him from early morning wade fishing. Alcoa Aluminum Refinery in Point Comfort hired him on in the machining and tooling department in the late 1950s, where Gene was at last able to realize his longtime dream of fabricating parts out of Aluminum and other metals. In 1959, a fiery redhead working as a carhop caught Gene’s attention, and soon he and Patricia Talmadge were married and starting a family. They remained married just shy of 40 years, ending when Pat died of cancer in 1999. There was no bigger supporter of Palacios High School football than Gene Allen. Not only would he attend every Palacios Sharks home and away game for nearly 40 years, he could often be seen at weekday evening practices with his friends and fellow football fans Arnold Serna, Jeff Hammonds, and Billy Dan Bradshaw in his famous golf cart. He proudly wore his red-and-white Palacios Sharks windbreaker and trucker hat everywhere he went. When Gene finally retired from Alcoa in the mid-1990s, he immediately took up woodworking, amassing an impressive collection of table saws, scroll saws, and planers, all of which he soon mastered. His artistic creations included gingerbread trim for houses, mailboxes, intricately designed clocks, corner shelves, jewelry boxes, anything his imagination could dream up. Gene and Pat and family were members of the First United Methodist Church of Palacios. He especially enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Gene was johnny-on-the-spot on Sundays, getting to the church early in the morning to turn on the air-conditioning or heating systems to make sure everything was ready for services. In 2015 Gene underwent quadruple bypass surgery, followed in 2016 with a bout of West Nile Virus. The combination proved to be overwhelming to his system, and he decided he would live with family in Granbury and sell his beloved home in Palacios. Even though Granbury was no substitute for Palacios, Gene enjoyed its small town nature and friendliness. He went to Pam’s Diner every morning at 6:00 a.m. to have breakfast at the “geezer table” with other retired gentlemen. After a couple of days, the waitresses knew to bring him his coffee (black) and his breakfast (two eggs over easy and two pieces of toast). He was a regular fixture at Pam’s until shortly before his passing. Gene is preceded in death by wife Pat Allen, parents Roy Allen and Vivian Cox Allen, and brother Raymond “Perk” Allen. He is survived by his three children: Melody Allen of Cedar Park, TX; Ray Allen of Hyannis, MA; Bruce Allen and wife Kim Lawler Allen of San Antonio, TX; granddaughter Rickie Lee Farah and husband Ken Farah of Dallas, TX, and great-grandson George Gilbert Farah; sister Elizabeth Allen Hogg and husband Roy Lee Hogg of San Antonio, TX; sister Linda Allen Matlock of Granbury, TX; nephew Robert Hogg and wife Jeannie Hogg; great-nieces Jennifer Hogg and Brianna Hogg, and extended family. Visitation will be Thursday, September 7, 2023, 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 3rd and Lucas, Palacios, TX, followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m., with graveside services to follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a pine tree in Gene’s honor, and think of him every time you cast out into the bay.

June Colleen Wood Allen went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2023. She was born on May 10, 1929 to Ernest Cyrus and Gladys Wood, the third of six children. Her parents, husband Bob, and brother Byron and sister Pat preceded her in death. Her bookkeeping skills culminated with the start-up of the credit union for the Celanese plant which she managed for several years. But her best known talent may have been her musical skill. We all know her best for her years in the choir, but she also rang handbells, sang solos, duets, and in various ensembles. She also taught adult Sunday School and worked in the church office for many years. She loved the Lord and impacted many lives in her daily walk. Heaven’s choir is even better with June’s arrival. Marilyn Owen Andersen, 68, passed away on July 9, 2021 in Corsicana, Texas after a courageous fight with cancer. Marilyn was born in Bay City, Texas on December 23, 1952 to Fred and Dorothy (Krobot) Owen. She grew up in Van Vleck, Texas with her parents and 3 younger brothers, Petey, David and Michael. As a young girl, Marilyn loved to spend time with her grandmother, Josephine “Maw” Krobot and her best memories were cooking with Maw in the kitchen and playing family volleyball games with her aunts and uncles. She described her time on her grandmother’s farm as “soothing, peaceful and a fun place to be”. Marilyn met Frode at the age of 15 when a mutual friend introduced them. The relationship grew over the next three years and the two were married at the Danevang Lutheran Church in October of 1971. Marilyn and Frode would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 22, 2021. The couple had two sons, Frode B. Andersen, III and Adam S. Andersen while living in the Markham area. Marilyn was very involved in her boys lives and spent time helping at school and church. Many of the school/church youth remember Marilyn’s generosity when hosting dinners and late-night rehearsals. In 2000, Frode and Marilyn left the Bay City area to relocate to Corsicana, Texas for work. Marilyn continued to serve in the church in any way needed and took a job as greeter at Wal-Mart showing the love and kindness of Christ to every person she met. Marilyn had a generous spirit and always had a gift, snack, or random household item to give to anyone she considered friends or family. One of her many gifts came in the form of hosting parties and family events. She always had a large spread of food, drinks, and desserts. Everyone went home with a goodie bag and a little spending money for their next “Walmart trip”. “Granny”, as she was called by her six grandchildren, loved to spend time with her family. She loved Christmas and Birthdays where she would go over the top decorating and buying gifts for her family to make sure these days would be unforgettable. Most Christmas’ there were 5-10 fully decorated trees with some being displayed year long in her “Christmas Room.” Frode and Marilyn made frequent trips to visit family across Texas. She wrote letters, sent birthday cards and packages to everyone she loved. Marilyn would spend hours on the phone with her mother Dorothy and siblings, Petey, David and Michael reminiscing about the past and catching up on family updates. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 50 years, Frode B. Andersen, Jr.; mother Dorothy Owen Beard and husband Jack; son, Frode III and wife Whitney; son, Adam and wife Amanda; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Frode IV, Cadence, Hannah, Kyleigh, and Soren; brother; Petey and wife Ruby; brother David and wife Lynda; brother Michael.
