Dimensions of the Custom House
at Matagorda as given by Robert Kelly in his bid to George M. Collinsworth, to build the Custom House
Dated April 20, 1840

"I will complete the Carpenter work for a new Custom House in the Town of Matagorda. To be two stories high, each story ten feet in the clear. the frame fifty feet by twenty-five feet To be put up in a strong and substantial manner, the outside to be weather boarded and furnished with a plain trough cornice.

The first floor to be laid down square joint, the second floor to be dressed, tongued and grooved in the best manner. The large room, and the small room above to be ceiled throughout. The plank to be dressed. The windows to have eighteen glass lights 10+12. The windows on the first floor to have outside shutters two inches thick.

The windows about stairs to be finished without shutters. The doors above to have two panels rails and moulded on each side. The door opening into the passage to have a transom sash. The piazza to be 6 feet by 10 feet with Rail and Bannister ceiled under joists.

The opening in the large room above stairs to be finished with plain Architrave and back moulding - all other openings to have a plain architrave. The upper floor to have a base not less than six inches. The stairs to be with a rail and Bannister around. The Whole to be completed in a good and work manlike manner for the sum of one Thousand Three hundred and fifty dollars. Good money - To be paid as follow:

$100 on completion of the frame; 300 when the building is enclosed and the balance on the completion of the contract.
