Funeral services for W. P. “Buddy” Sterling, 71, of Jones Creek will be held 10 a. m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church, Matagorda, with the Rev. Herbert Willke officiating. Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery. Mr. Sterling was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Matagorda and died Jan. 13, 1988, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. He was self-employed in the boating industry in Freeport. Survivors include a son, Pete Sterling of Orange; a daughter, Mary Hughes of Alvin; a sister, Gertie Williams of Jones Creek; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers include Jim Rudellat, David Sterling, Rusty Green, Raymond Cox, John A. Sterling and George Deshotels. In lieu of the usual contributions, donations can be made to the Heart Fund. Arrangements are with Palms Funeral Home, Angleton.

Funeral services for Arthur Sterry, 60, were held Tuesday morning at the Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda. The body of Mr. Sterry was recovered near the mouth of the Colorado River Monday morning. Friends reported that Mr. Sterry had been in ill health. Surviving are one brother, Wesley, of Matagorda. Gordon Duane Sterry, 42, of Houston passed away January 5, 1996 at West Houston Hospital in Houston. He was born Feb. 6, 1953 in Charelston, South Carolina to Dan G. and Joyce Mayberry Sterry. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Mayberry Sterry of Houston, by an uncle and aunt, Paul and Lee Mayberry of Lufkin, by two aunts, Reba Sterry and Elsie Sterry, and by five cousins. Mark B. Mayberry of Lufkin, J. Robert Sterry of Boling, Chris W. Sterry of Bay City, Samantha Ione Fraser of Dallas, and W. Jeff Davis of Sugar Land. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, January 9, 1996 at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with Rev. Karl Choate officiating. Burial will follow at the Matagorda Cemetery. Pallbearers include, J. Robert Sterry, Chris W. Sterry, Dean Critendon, Jared S. Davis, W. Jeff Davis, and Paul Eidelbach. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
