Roy Mark Maden & Kenneth Ray Ryman
Car Strikes Parked Motorists
Two Killed In Three-Vehicle Accident

By Tim Costello, Tribune Staff Reporter

Two men were killed early Thursday morning when their parked vehicles were struck from behind by a car on FM 521, approximately 11 miles south of Bay City.

Pronounced dead at the scene was 19-year-old Roy Mark Maden of Matagorda.

The other victim, 20-year-old Kenneth Ray Ryman of Wadsworth, died less than three hours later at Matagorda General Hospital.

According to the DPS report, Maden’s motorcycle had been parked parallel to Ryman’s pickup truck, partially on the roadway, when they were hit from behind by a car. All three vehicles were facing east at the time of collision.

A DPS spokesman speculated that Maden had pulled alongside the truck and was talking to Ryman when the accident took place. Damage to both of their vehicles was described as total.

The driver of the car, 50-year-old Ralph Durham of Bay City, was arrested on a charge of involuntary manslaughter for driving while intoxicated.

Durham was treated at Matagorda General for minor injuries and released to authorities. He was still being held through Thursday morning at Matagorda County Jail.

The accident was said to have occurred around 12:40 a. m. Thursday.

Funeral services for Ryman are scheduled for 2:30 p. m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Bay City. No information was immediately available regarding Maden.
