Thomas Allen Hunter

Thomas Allen Hunter, 90, of Bay City, died Wednesday, November 15, 1995 at Matagorda General Hospital. He was born December 3, 1904 to parents Harry L. and Susan E. Groeff Hunter in Texarkana, Arkansas. He worked as a Switch Master for the railroad for many years. Mr. Hunter has no living survivors.

Graveside service will be Friday, November 17 at 10:00 a. m. at the Matagorda Cemetery with Monsignor James Brunner officiating.

Service under the direction of Dick R. Elkins Bay City Funeral Home.

William “Bill” Elmer Hustead

Mr. Bill Elmer Hustead who has been in poor health for some time began to go down rapidly a few weeks ago and was confined to his bed about a period of three weeks, when he breathed his last, September 25, 1931, at 1:15 p. m. at the old J. H. Berg homestead where he, his wife and family resided. His passing was caused from enlarged heart. Mr. Hustead was a barber by vocation and came here a few years ago, soon opening up a place of business which he continued to operate only being absent a short time from the shop.

In 1927 he was united in marriage to Miss Irma Berg, his second wife, his first having preceded him in death several years ago. The remains were prepared for burial by funeral director A. A. Duffy and Company of Matagorda, then the casket surrounded by beautiful flowers was placed in the Episcopal church until time for the funeral rites that were conducted by Rev.  Paul Engle of Bay City, both at the church and the Matagorda cemetery, where he was laid to rest in the J. H. Berg lot.

Bill Elmer Hustead was born in Vienna, Ohio, Feb. 8, 1881. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Irma Berg Hustead and a daughter and son of his first marriage, Miss Phyllis Hustead and Bill Hustead, all of Matagorda and his mother of Caldwell, Idaho, and other relatives.

Mr. Hustead always met his patrons with a smile and pleasant word and made quite a few friends while in business here who sympathize with the wife and family in their great bereavement.
