Homer “Cowboy” Green
September 30, 1930 - June 25, 2017

Homer “Cowboy” Green, 86, of Matagorda, Texas passed away June 25, 2017.

He was born September 30, 1930 in Old Gulf, Texas to the late Henry Lee and Mary Blanchard Green.

Homer served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  He loved hunting, fishing, farming, and participating in his community’s activities.

Homer is survived by his daughter, Rita Green; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Matagorda Cemetery.

Marian “Bub” Bruce Grover
Sixth Generation County Resident Dies In Houston

Bay City Bank & Trust vice president, and senior employee Marian “Bub” Bruce Grover died Sunday at Houston’s Methodist Hospital.

She was the wife of Courtney P. Grover, and was a sixth generation Matagorda County resident and a member of the first families that settled in the county.

Mrs. Grover was born March 25, 1922. She was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Rena Nolte Bruce, both natives of Matagorda.

She had been a valued employee at Bay City Bank & Trust for 19 years.

She also was a life-long member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a charter member of the Junior Service League.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests the contributions be made to the American Diabetic Association, 2706 Richmond Ave., Suite 14, Houston, Texas 77006, or the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Marian “Bub Bub” Bruce Grover

Mrs. Marian “Bub Bub” Bruce Grover, 57, of Bay City, died on Sunday, November 4 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston. Survivors include: husband, Courtney P. Grover, Jr.; sons, Courtney P. Grover, III of Los Angeles, California, and James Bruce Grover of Bay City; daughters, Mrs. Barbara Guffy of Houston and Mrs. Leonard (Marion) Ashford of Deer Park; 3 granddaughters and 4 grandsons: sisters, Mrs. W. B Jeter of Houston, Mrs. W. W. Wilkerson, Jr. of Bay City and Mrs. George Deerman of Angleton; a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on November 6 at 3:00 p. m. with the Rev. Milton E. McWilliams officiating. Interment will follow at the Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda. Pallbearers include: William Penney, Frank Lewis, Dick Bachman, Walter Calhoun, Kenneth Etie and Millard Brooking. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Diabetic Association American Diabetics 2706 Richmond Ave. Suite 14 Houston, Texas 77006. Services under the direction of Dick R. Elkins Bay City Funeral Home.

Joseph A. Guilbeau

Funeral services for Joseph A. Guilbeau, 89, of Matagorda will be held 2 p. m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with the Rev. Herburt A. Willke officiating. Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery.

He was born March 4, 1897, in Cecelia, La., and died July 25 at Matagorda General Hospital.

Survivors include: wife, Joe Berg Guilbeau of Bay City; sister, Vitae Dejean of Opelousas, La.; grandchildren, J. A. Guilbeau III of Austin, Charlotte Cox of Austin and Debrah Foote of Houston. He was preceded in death by son, J. A. Guilbeau, Jr.

Mr. Guilbeau was a member of the Episcopal Church and was a longtime resident of New Gulf, and lived in Matagorda for the past 20 years. He entered employment with the Texas Gulf Sulfur Co. of Old Gulf and New Gulf in 1918 and retired in 1962.

Funeral arrangements were made with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Joseph Kadel Guilbeau

Funeral services for Joseph Kadel Guilbeau, 91, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with the Rev. Hugh Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda.

Mr. Guilbeau was born Dec. 31, 1899, to John H. and Ellen Berg in Matagorda and died May 18, 1991, at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.

A lifelong resident of the Matagorda area, she was a member of the Episcopal church.

She is survived by her three grandchildren, Joseph Allen Guilbeau III of Austin, Debbie Foote of Houston, and Charlotte Cox of San Antonio; and her niece, Lorita Aplin of Noalaska [Onalaska?].

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Allen Guilbeau, who died in 1986.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.
