Mrs. Berta Lee Barry, 72, Of Matagorda Funeral Held
Mrs. Berta Lee Barry,
72, of Matagorda died early Saturday afternoon in Matagorda
General Hospital following an extended illness. A life long
resident of the area, she was a member of one of the pioneer
families of Matagorda.
Funeral services were
held Sunday afternoon at 5 p. m in Christ Episcopal Church where
she was a member, with Rev. Aubrey Maxted officiating. Interment
was in the Matagorda cemetery under the direction of the Bay
City Funeral Home.
Survivors include one
son, William N. Blair and a sister, Mrs. Frank Duffey, both of
Matagorda; one grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were
Courtney Grover, Courtney Grover Jr., William Jeter, Robert R.
Jeter, Walter Wilkinson, Jr., and George M. Deerman.

W. G. "Jiggs" Basey
W. G. "Jiggs" Basey,
born on October 16, 1925 in Hamilton, Texas, passed away
November 3, 2001 in Matagorda, Texas. Jiggs was preceded in
death by his wife, Lois, sons Gene, Johnson and Johnny Davis.
He is survived by: his sons, Jimmy, Joe, Jeff and Jarvis Davis
of Bay City; daughters, Janice Shields, Joy Losack of Bay City
and Becky Franklin of Alvin, 21 grandchildren and numerous great
grandchildren. Jiggs was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Graveside service was Monday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at Matagorda
Cemetery with the Rev. Dottie Dumas officiating.
Services are provided by Stroud Funeral Home in Clute.

December 17, 1847 – August 19, 1949
Final Rites Are Held Sunday 101-Year-Old Matagorda Woman
Funeral Services for Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Baxter, 101,
were held Sunday afternoon at the
Matagorda Cemetery. Mrs. Baxter would have been 102 December 17.
Mrs. Baxter, reported to be Matagorda County’s oldest
citizen, was born on the Matagorda Peninsula and lived in the county all
her life. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lou Ellis, at
Matagorda Friday night.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Will McNabb, Mrs.
E. C. Baker, Mrs. Lou Ellis, and Mrs. Lydia Moberly of Matagorda and
Mrs. Amos Lee of Bay City; 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and
16 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Baxter lived to see three of her children
celebrate their 50th wedding anniversaries: Mrs. Lee, Mrs.
Baker and Mrs. McNabb

Bobby Clancy Baxter
Bobby Clancy Baxter, 67,
of Matagorda died August 4, 2003 at the MD Anderson Medical Center
in Houston. He was born January 8, 1936 in Matagorda to the late
Ingamore and Ida Yeamans Baxter.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Matagorda, a lifelong
resident of Matagorda, and was retired fisherman.
Survivors include: wife, Melba Yeamans Baxter of Matagorda; daughter
and son-in-law, Julianne and Raymond Cox; sons, Robert Bruce Baxter
and Clancy Cameron Baxter; sister, Violet Smith all of Matagorda;
brother, Claude Baxter of Aransas Pass; one granddaughter, Nicole
Cherie Baxter of Matagorda.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Christ
Episcopal Church in Matagorda with the Rev. Harley Savage
officiating.
Interment will follow at the Matagorda Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe & Jimmy Yeamans, Jeff Davis, John Holcombe,
David Riley, Robert Baxter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bokorney, Nelo Seaman, Charles
Vacek, Raymond Cox, and Joe Yeamans, III.

DONNA JEAN BAXTER
MATAGORDA -
Donna Jean
Baxter, 92, went home to the loving arms of Jesus,
Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010. She was born Feb. 10, 1918, in Cook
County, Chicago, Ill., to Ernest and Grace Hess.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her late husband,
H. P. Baxter.
She is survived by her only son, Kenneth Baxter and wife Tena of
Lake Jackson, and one granddaughter, Krystal Baxter of San
Antonio.
Mrs. Baxter was a business woman. She held many positions and
jobs throughout her lifetime. She worked for the newly
established Social Security Board in Baltimore, Md. She also did
bookkeeping and tax preparation, and worked for the water
department in Matagorda where she lived and raised her family.
She loved to sing and dance in her early years. She was even
invited to tea at the White House by Mrs. Harry Truman in
October of 1946.
She always had a special place in her heart for her four legged
friends. They were her lifelong friends and companions.
Her family would like to give a very special thanks to the staff
and caregivers at the Matagorda House and to A-Med Hospice for
all the loving care and kindness.
Services will be held at Word of Life Church in Wadsworth with
Rev. Melvin Ryman officiating. Visitation will be today, Sept.
1, 2010, from 1 p.m. till 2 p.m. with the funeral following.
Burial will be at Matagorda Cemetery.
Final arrangements were provided by Green's Mortuary in Bay
City.
