Community Baptist Church The Community Baptist Church of Matagorda was organized on December 14, 1983. The first service was held in the Matagorda Fire Station with 17 founding members present. Rev. Fred Y. Carter was called as the pastor of the church. In August, 1984, the church acquired 1.5 acres at 1800 Ingram Road for a building site. Services were held in the first unit of a three-phase building program on September 30, 1984. In October, 1984, the Community Baptist Church of Matagorda was accepted into the Colorado Baptist Association and the Southern Baptist Convention. By November, 1984, the church had grown to 42 active members. Historic Matagorda County, Volume 1, page 617
