*98 Rev. Stephen R. Wright - Rector of Christ Church in the city. The deceased died suddenly on the morning of the 28th inst. from an apoplectic stroke, deeply mourned by the whole community. He was an earnest, devoted Minister of Christ, a faithful, eloquent preacher of the gospel, a warm sympathizing friend, a public spirited citizen and generous philanthropist. *111 Mrs. Maria Louisa Chambers Owen - d/o Hon. E. F. Chambers of Maryland & wife of Rev. John Owen, Rector of Christ Church, Matagorda. She died on the 12th of August, 1861, and was buried the next day. The cause of her death was an internal injury received from a fall, which proved fatal in five or six hours after the accident. Her death was calm and tranquil, but greatly lamented by her family. In the midst of life we are in death. She died in her 37th year. *111 Daniel Hawes - He died of Tetanus caused, it was supposed, by spinal injury, and evinced in his death the Christian graces beyond his years. He confessed his fault, sought the prayers of his minister and died in peace, trusting in God his Saviour. *113 John C. Perry - His illness was protracted and very painful, which he bore with unvaried patience and meek resignation. He received more than once in his sickness the Holy Communion to his great benefit, and died in the faith and fear of God, greatly lamented by all his friends. *119 Roberta Anna Ewing, after a few days' illness, of congestion fever she was resigned to the will of God who took her away in the midst of her days. She promised to be a very unselfish member of the church by her actions during the few months that she was in full communion. She was about 35 years of age and was buried at Cedar Lake Church. |
