OBITUARIES

Thomas J. Kuykendall Dead.

Another of Matagorda county's pioneers has gone to his eternal home after a long life of usefulness, many years of which were spent in this section. Thomas J. Kuykendall died at his home in the west part of the county, last Monday night, in the 78th year of his age. His illness was of long duration, and for a longer time he had been in feeble health and death came as no surprise. He was among the oldest residents of Matagorda county and came here with the earliest of its settlers. He lived for a long time in that part of the county which now comprises Wharton county, but after the division moved south to stay with the old name, settling on the west side where he has resided ever since. Four daughters and one son survive him: Mrs. R. H. Lee of Arnim, Mrs. John McCrosky of McCrosky ranch, Mrs. Harry Gainer, Miss Emma Kuykendall and Ben W. Kuykendall.--newspaper unknown, date January 11, 1904
