An American serviceman was killed early today when his car was involved in collision with a stationary lorry on the Leicester-Loughborough road, hear Rothley, scene of many fatal accidents. The accident happened at 1:30 a. m. and the dead man was Staff-Sgt. Elmer Henton of Thetford, Norfolk,. He was driving towards Leicester in a left-hand-drive Metropolitan Nash car, which was badly damaged when it struck the rear of a lorry from Leyland, Lancashire, on the stretch of road between Rothley and Mountsorrel. The driver of the lorry, Mr. Clifford Mascheter, of Preston, escaped injury. Henton was 28 and was unmarried. Evening Mail, Leicester, England, August 3, 1959

Funeral services for S/Sgt E. Allan Henton, Jr., 28, were held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Tuesday at 10 a. m. Conducting the service were the Rev. Tom Plumbley and the Chaplain from Ellington AFB, Houston. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Park. The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Henton of Old Ocean. He died as a result of an automobile accident, August 3, at Mount Sorrell [Mountsorrell] near Leicester, England, where he had been stationed in the USAF. At the time of his death he was with the 672ND Technical Training Squadron (SAC). Allan graduated from the Sweeny High School and was a student at SHSTC in Huntsville at the time of his enlistment in the Air Force. A member of the First Christian Church of Bay City, S/Sgt. Henton is survived by his parents; and also Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Craig, of Missouri and Mr. and Mrs. J. Kendall Kelly, of California and their families.
