July 22.-(FHTNC) – Marine Pfc. Matthew A. Eklund, son of Allen Eklund of Midkiff, Texas, recently reported for duty with the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. A 1984 graduate of Clear Creek High School, League City, he joined the Marine Corps in March 1984.

Funeral Services for Cpl. Matthew A. Eklund, 26, of Bay City will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Downey officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Mr. Eklund was born Oct. 15, 1965 in Houston and died June 5, 1992, in San Antonio after being involved in a motorcycle accident on his way home from Camp Pendleton, Calif.
He is the son of Milvil A. Eklund and Barbara LeJune-Holloway. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years, stationed at Camp Pendleton. He was also a veteran of Desert Storm in Motor Transport, stationed on the USS Cleveland for one year while serving in the Persian Gulf. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1984.
Eklund is survived by his mother, Barbara Holloway of Bay City; his father, Arlon Eklund of New Braunfels; his stepmother Betty Eklund of New Braunfels; his stepfather Eldon “Sonny” Holloway, Jr. of Bay City; stepmother Diane Krager Holloway of Bay City; four brothers, Scott Holloway of Bay City, Arlon Eklund, Jr. of Denver City, Roy Eklund of Austin, and Thomas Eklund of New Braunfels; two sisters, Mellissia Holloway and Stacy Holloway of Bay City; grandmother, Velma LeJune of Van Vleck; step-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Holloway, Sr. of Bay City; aunt and uncle, Betty and Steve Hodges of Lockhart; aunt and uncle, Mellie and W.D. Killian of Houston; aunt and uncle Jeanette and John Voss McCrosky; uncle Jack LeJune of Friendswood; uncle Thomas Nichols of Houston; uncle, Roger Holloway ; three nephews; and five nieces.
Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
