Funeral services for Charity Gailes, 87, of Pledger, will be held noon Thursday at Grove Hill Baptist Church in Pledger with the Rev. Frank Cones officiating. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Pledger. Mrs. Gailes was born June 1, 1905 in Wharton to the late Hollie and Maria Bailey Johnson and she died Nov. 28, 1992 at her home. She was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include two daughters, Janie Miles of Houston and Eulalia Waddy of Boling; three sons, Chester T. Thomas and Clarence Gailes of Houston and Watson Gailes of Pledger; two brothers, Tillmon Johnson of Corpus Christi and Wesley Johnson of San Francisco, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; three daughters-in-law; a sister-in-law and special friends, Charlie, Ross, Charles and Todd Harris and Dietrick Waddy and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Gailes; a sons, Jesse Moore and a grandson, John C. Waddy. Pallbearers will be Roland S. Waddy Jr., Wayne H. Johnson, Earnest R. Moore, David Laws, A. J. Johnson and Chris Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Chester Thomas, Clarence Gailes, Roland S. Waddy Sr., L. E. Miles, Watson Gailes and the deacon and trustees of the Grove Hill Baptist Church. Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services for Sidney Amboree Higgins, 83, of West Columbia, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Grove Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Pledger, Texas with Rev. Derrick Blount, officiating.
Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Pledger, Texas. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m., with a wake service from 7:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at Dixon Funeral Home Chapel in Brazoria, Texas. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m., only, Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Grove Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Pledger, Texas. There will be no viewing afterwards.
She was a member of Grove Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she
served as President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, where she spent
many long hours planning and preparing meals for the Pastor, his
guests and people of the community. Active pallbearers will be Clarence Amboree Jr., Lewis Jones Jr., Darryl Odom, Odell Marshall, John Phillips IV and Brandon Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Amboree Sr., Rev. C. W.
Amboree, Travis Amboree, Hillard Amboree, J. D. Amboree and Julius
Standley. |
