JEFFERSON ANDREW UNDERWOOD FAMILY

Jefferson Andrew Underwood was born November 17, 1857 in Tennessee. He married Sarah Amelia Lee Barrett (October 2, 1866 - January 1, 1944), the daughter of Dr. William Thomas Barrett and Louisa Ann McCollum Morrison (first marriage to William Morrison) on Tuesday the 21st day of November 1882 at Cornersville, Marshall County, Tennessee. Their children, William, Lilly Maude, Maxie and Jesse Clyde were born in Tennessee before the family moved to Texas between 1892 and 1896. Amelia's mother, Louisa Barrett, accompanied them as Dr. Barrett was deceased. They moved to the Milam County area and were living in Falls County at the time of the 1900 census. The last two children, Walter and Vades were born after the move to Texas.

The family later moved to Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas and were living there when Jeff died on July 5, 1910. He is buried in the Palacios Cemetery. While living in Palacios, Amelia worked for the Elder family, doing much of their sewing. Amelia moved between Milam County and Matagorda County at least one more time and eventually stayed in the Matagorda County area to live near her daughters who lived in adjacent Brazoria County. She was living in Milam County when her mother, Lou Ann, died on August 8, 1921. Lou Ann was buried in North Elm Cemetery, Milam County, Texas. When Amelia died in 1944, she was living with her daughter, Vades. She was buried in the Sweeny Cemetery.

4. Jesse Clyde "Dick" Underwood (April 6, 1892 -  Feb 28, 1968, Wichita Falls, TX, buried Crestview Memorial Park) married Barbara Heard
