Palacios, Texas
Jan. 22, 1912

Dear Sidonie:--

It is now 10:00 P. M. The trains have changed time. Formerly the passenger train arrived here at 3:40 (i.e. it was due to arrive then); now it is due to arr. here at 9:10. Yesterday this change was made. Instead of running to Wharton only, our S. P. train runs all the way to Houston.
Last night I returned to Palacios from the Francitas & Blessing preaching tour. This A. M. at 7:00 o'clock I left for Markham, a town about 25 mi. toward Houston from Palacios. An old man was sick lately (dropsey) and wrote to me last Friday asking me to visit him and at the same time to give him communion. He is a good Christian, very fond of reading the Bible and "Predigtbucher." [sermon book] Had a fine talk with him and her and a son Fred. Mr. Miller also made me a present of $5.00. Lovingly, Fred.

Mrs. Martin Koenig

Hannah Miller Koenig had been in ill health for many years. She and her husband came to Flathead Valley in 1899. In 1902 they moved to Oklahoma. There she became ill. In the hope of finding relief for her, the family moved to Kansas in 1905. However it was found that the climate of Flathead had agreed with her better than any other, so the family returned to this valley in 1908 and has been living here since then. About two weeks ago Mrs. Koenig became seriously ill. She was taken to the hospital last Thursday, but on Friday afternoon she succumbed.

The deceased was born at Bear Creek, Gage County, Nebraska, on August 24, 1873. In 1894 she was married to Martin Koenig. Nine children were born to them; four of them, however, died either in infancy or youth. She attained an age of 51 years. Mrs. Koenig leaves to mourn her death, her husband and five children and several brothers and sisters. Mr. John Miller of this city is a brother of the deceased.

Mrs. Martin Koenig possessed many sterling qualities. Those who were intimately acquainted with her will always remember her as a kind and affectionate friend and neighbor. She was of a quiet disposition, a devoted wife and mother and a faithful member of the church.
