Aurelio “Chico” Martinez, Jr., 98, of Markham passed away August 6, 2020. He was born January 24, 1922 in Piedras Negras, Mexico to the late Aurelio Martinez, Sr. and Maria del Refugio Godina Martinez. Chico came to Texas with his wife, 3 children and 2 suitcases. He lived for being a father, working as a cowboy and caring for his horses and cattle. He grew his family to 8 children and he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren experience life. He was a well-known and respected cowboy in the area and was awarded the Matagorda County Cattlemen’s Association Heritage Award in 2011 by his peers. After he retired, he continued to care for his cattle into his 80’s and then traded his cowboy boots for the TV remote and recliner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Maria Ana Martinez, two sons Larry Martinez and Rene Martinez and two grandsons, Michael Martinez and Amir Martinez. Survivors include daughters Rosa Pena & husband Manuel, Irma Gonzales & husband Pete and Sylvia Martinez; wife of son Larry; Melinda Martinez; sons Ramiro Martinez & wife Barbara, Fortunato “Tony” Martinez & wife Carolyn and Rodolfo Martinez & wife Rita; grandchildren Cynthia Lauthers, Penny Nevarez, Crystal Crouse, Kathy Martinez, Ramiro Martinez, Jr., Patrick Martinez, Larry Jon Martinez, Eric Martinez, Chuck Moreno, Leslie Nicholson, Mark Moreno, Danielle Ochoa, Kristy Bollom, Karen Duplantis, Erica Nowack, Matthew Martinez and Adrian Martinez; 38 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren and 2 daughters-in-law; Lucy Woodard and Dora Salazar. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Maria Ana Martinez, 81, of Markham, TX, passed away May 8, 2015. She was born January 14, 1934, in Piedras Negras, Mexico to the late Federico Espinoza and Eusebia Estrada Espinoza. She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Martinez and Rene Martinez; and two grandsons, Michael Martinez and Amir Martinez. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Aurelio Martinez; daughters, Rosa Pena and husband Manuel, Irma Moreno and husband Pete, and Sylvia Martinez; sons, Ramiro Martinez and wife Barbara, Fortunato “Tony” Martinez and wife Carolyn, and Rodolfo Martinez and wife Rita; grandchildren, Cynthia Lauthers, Penny Brassfield, Crystal Crouse, Kathy Martinez, Ramiro Martinez, Jr., Patrick Martinez, Larry Jon Martinez, Eric Martinez, Churck Moreno, Leslie Nicholson, Mark Moreno, Danniella Ochoa, Kristy Martinez, Karen Martinez, Erica Martinez, Matthew Martinez and Adrian Martinez; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, TX. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City, with Msgr. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Pallbearers will be Romero Martinez Jr., Patrick Martinez, Larry Jon Martinez, Eric Martinez, Chuck Moreno, Matthew Martinez, Adrian Martinez and Keegan Johnson. Rene Martinez Rosary services for Rene Martinez, 32, of Markham were held at 7 pm Sunday, Jan 3, 1999 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel and the funeral mass was at 9:30 am Monday to Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Martinez died Jan. 1 in New Iberia, LA. He was born May 2, 1966 in Bay City to Aurelio and Maria Ann Espinoza Martinez. He was a member the Catholic Church, a life-long resident of Markham, and a welder for Dynamic Industries in New Iberia. Survivors include his parents, Aurelio and Maria Ann Martinez of Markham; son, Adrian Rene Martinez of Van Vleck; former wife, Dora Salazar; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosa and Manual Pena of Markham, Irma and Carlos Moreno, Sylvia Martinez and Lucy Martinez all of Bay City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ramiro Martinez of Houston, Larry and Melinda Martinez of Bay town, Tony and Carol Martinez, and Rodolfo and Rita Martinez all of Bay City; nephews, Michael and Matthew Martinez; nieces, Cynthia, Sasha, and Crystal Pena, Danielle Ochoa, Karen Martinez, Erica Martinez, Kathy Martinez and Leslie Nicholson; Aunts and uncles, Jesus Espinoza, Alicia Espinoza, Federico Espinoza and Maria Elena Espinoza; numerous great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were his nephews Larry Jon Martinez, Ramiro Martinez, Jr., Joe Henry Ochoa, Eric Martinez Patrick Martinez and Mark Moreno, Honorary pallbearers was Carlos Moreno, Jr. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros.
