Funeral services for Mrs. Eula Mae Woodard Courtney, age 65, of Bay City, will be held Friday, June 2nd, at Jesus Freewill Holy Temple Church in Bay City, with Rev. L. V. Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Visitation will be until 9 pm Thursday at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City, and Friday from 1-2 pm at the church.

Mrs. Courtney was born in Old Gulf, Matagorda County, Texas on November 9, 1929, to Pinkney Woodard and Albirda Young Woodard, and died May 26, 1995, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was engaged in several business endeavors, was a member of the Heroines of Jericho, chairperson of the National Council of Negro Women-Bay City Chapter, a member of the Hilliard Alumni Association, and a Baptist by faith.

Survivors include her husband, William Courtney Sr., of Bay City, five daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Dianne Courtney-Belle (& Gerald) of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Lavender Courtney-Watters (& Eric) of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Vivian Courtney-Hazley (& George) of Hyatsville, Maryland, Mrs. Delores Starnes (& Charlie) of Houston, and Mrs. Bessie Mitchell (& Richard, Jr.) of Bay City; and four sons and two daughters-in-law, William Courtney, Jr., Ulyssys O’Neil Courtney (& Karen), and Theodis Courtney all of Bay City, and Vance Courtney (& Barbara) of Houston.  Also one sister, Mrs. Dorthy Luddington Walton of Bay City, 19 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by; her father, Pinkney Woodard, July 9, 1971; her mother, Albirda Young Woodard, Jan. 8, 1995; one sister, Birdie Lee Luddington Baugh, April 23, 1966; and two brothers, Rev. C. L. Luddington, Sept. 13, 1982, and Rev. Preston Luddington, Dec. 6, 1994.

Active pallbearers include Kennedy Holden, Sr., Thomas Battle, Bernard Ford, Willie Lee Boone, Jr., Lugene Bryant, Sr. and Jesse Southall, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers include Terry Young, Cartrell Young, Vance Courtney, Eric Watters, Gerald Selby, Professor Spencer and Anthony Walton, Sr.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services for Billie Dale Sr., 72, of Bay City will be held 2:30 pm Saturday at Mother Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating.  Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery, Bay City.

Friends may call until 9 pm today at Duncan Roberts Funeral Home.

Mr. Dale was born Sept 9, 1916, in Matagorda County, Texas to Cunnie and Georgia Merchant Dale and died June 7, 1989, at his residence.

He was a former member of the Bay City Police Department and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Dale of Bay City; a son, Billie Dale Jr. of Houston; three stepchildren, Hattie Petitt of Bay City, and Maude Edison and Ira Edison Sr., both of Houston; two sisters, Lottie and Clemetine Dale of Houston; a brother, Robert Dale of LaMarque; a granddaughter, Jamica of Bay City; four grandchildren; and several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.
