Chapel services for Robert James Goodlow, 75 of Bay City will be held Wednesday, August 11 at 1 pm in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home with his daughter-in-law, Gale C. Stanford Th.M., MCCC, presiding.   Interment will be at Eastview Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday until 9 pm in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Mr. Goodlow died Friday, August 6, 1999 at his residence in Bay City.  He was born in Needville on Saturday, August 11, 1923.

His Methodist upbringing and public education transpired in the community of his birth.  He later served in the US Navy during World War II and received an Honorable Discharge.

He was admired throughout the community as “Goodlow” and was always willing to find he “place in the sun.” Although quiet, reserved and simple living, his smile, warm handshake and compassion was evident of his desire to be a friend to all mankind.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Thurman Stanford and Gale; two daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Whitfield and Michael, and Tawana Times; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; an uncle, Jesse James Goodlow; his cousins, Oscar Woods, Jr., Sam Woods, Hattie B. Fields, Irma Jean Times; and a host of other relatives and many friends whose lives he touched.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph, his mother, Rosalee, and two daughters.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Johnson III, Justin Dean, Jared Pierson, LaJuan Meyer, Tory Meyer, Tristan Meyer, Ertis Spiller, Oscar Woods, Jr. and Sam Woods.

Active pallbearers will include J. T. Manning, Ernest Tolson, Larnell Hawkins, Earl Fulwood, Eddie Roberts, and MacArthur.

Garrett Lee Grant

Funeral services for Garrett Grant will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996 at noon at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. L. V. Harvey officiating. Burial will be at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Garret Lee Grant was born to Joseph Grant and Mamie Bedford on Dec. 30, 1912 in Houston. Grant grew up in the Houston area and attended public school there.

He was preceded in death by two wives, five of his six children and his parents.

His earthly journey ended on Sept. 14, 1996 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.  He leaves beautiful memories to his loving daughter, Carol J. Grant Harvey and son-in-law, Rev. L. V. Harvey and 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Grant will lie in state from 11 am to noon at the church.  Visitation will be Sept. 17 until 9 pm at Green’s Mortuary.

Rowland Green

Funeral services for Mr. Rowland Green, age 57, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, March 9, at 2 p. m., at the Enterprise Baptist Church in Bay City, with Rev. Kevin O. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 1 til 2 p. m. at the church.

Mr. Green was born in Prairie View, Texas, Friday, Dec. 2, 1938, to Phillip Green, Sr. and Lettie Allen Green, and died Monday, March 4, 1996, at Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Mrs. Lettie Green Giles and Cornelious Giles of Bay City, and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Loyce Barnes of Texas City, Mrs. Eddie Percy (& J. C.) Miller of Dallas, and Mrs. Annie (& Donald) Bratcher of Bay City. Also two brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip (& Rosa Lee) Green, Jr. of Houston, and the Rev. K. D. (& Willada) Green of Bay City; one very special niece, Mrs. Phyllis Hayes of Carrollton, Texas.

He leaves three aunts, Mrs. Dorothy Brown of Houston, Ms. Ruth Allen of Ft. Worth, and Ms. Dora Allen of Bay City, and one uncle, Eddie Allen of Bay City. Also an adoptive grandmother, Mrs. Laura Matthews of Bay City, and three god-sisters, Mrs. Cheryl Ashton, Mrs. Sherri Stone and Mrs. Wilma Jean Johnson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and a family of many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Green, Sr., Sept. 6, 1975.

Active pallbearers Cunnie Dale, Bernard Dale, Wesley Brown, Richard Parker, Jimmy Taylor, Willie Franklin, Floyd Miller and Henry Woods.

Honorary pallbearers will include Phillip Green, Jr., the Rev. K. D. Green, Eddie Allen, Jack Robinson, Earnest Robinson, J. C. Miller, Donald Bratcher and Clinton Wyche.

Funeral services for Sarah Green, 62, of Bay City, will be Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at noon at Mother Zion Baptist Church, Bay City, the Rev. K. J. Griggs, pastor, and the Rev. A. H. Floyd, eulogist.  Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City. Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

She was born in Brazoria, Thursday, Sept. 2, 1937, to James Bivens and Dehlia Allen Bivens, and passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include five sons, Leroy Green of Houston, Robert (& Regina) of Sweeny, Henry Green III, and Moses Green of Bay City, and Donald Green of Austin.  Also: two sisters, Mollie Bivens of Brazoria, and Dehlia Young (& Joe) of Bay City, and two brothers, Edgar Bivens (& Christine), and Armither Bivens (& Ida Mae) of Brazoria. Also, 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Dorsey Stone, Timothy Taylor, Christopher Martin, DeAndrea Barnes, J. D. Green, Alvin Emmanuel, Nathaniel Young, Ira Smith, Kenneth Spiller and George Allen.

Joe Pearl Griggs, 76, of Bay City, passed away May 1, 1996 at the Matagorda House in Bay City. She was born May 26, 1919 in Wharton, Texas to Edward and Simonette Smith. Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 7, 1996 at 1 p. m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bay City with Rev. L. V. Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at East View Cemetery in Bay City. Visitation will be Monday May 6, 1996 from noon until 9 p. m. Pearl will lie in state at Ebenezer Baptist Church Tuesday from noon until 1 p. m. She is survived by a sister, Ederna Stevens of Wharton, a niece Ojia Mae Franklin of Wharton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Griggs. Active Pallbearers: Nephews. Honorary Pallbearers: Deacons of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Ira “Daughter” Grover

Funeral services for Mrs. Ira “Daughter” Grover, 95, of Bay City will be held 11 a. m. Thursday at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

Visitation is until 9 p. m. today at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Mrs. Grover was born Oct. 11, 1896, to Arthur and Katy Emmerson Jones in Pledger and died Jan. 26, 1992, at Country Village Nursing Home, Angleton.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mamie Grover Mullins and Leslie Grover Dowdell of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, Hollis Kimble of Houston; a sister, Roberta Clemments of Houston; a sister-in-law, Agnes Miller of Bay City; a special granddaughter, Betty Jackson of Bay City; two devoted grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Charles Perry of Bay City and Reginald and Pearl Perry of Clute; two grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Allen Green, Gary Green, Charles Perry, Reginald Perry, Ronald Perry and James Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hollis Kimble, Lloyd Jackson and Norris Wayne Jackson.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, Bay City.
