Helen L. Voelker
September 12, 1916 - December 18, 2005

Helen L. Voelker, 89, of Bay City, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, December 18, 2005, in a De Pere, Wisconsin nursing home.

Helen Lucille Deming was born September 12, 1916, in Dubuque, Iowa, and was the daughter of the late Lewis and Margaret Ryan Deming.

She was a graduate of Visitation Academy and Clarke College.

On June 27, 1941, she married Christopher Altman Voelker in their hometown of Dubuque, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by Dr. Voelker on March 23, 1978, and by their only child, Christopher Arthur Voelker, on January 17, 1957.

Mrs. Voelker was active in the Catholic Daughters of America and the Matagorda (Texas) General Hospital Auxiliary (the Pink Ladies).

Survivors include: her niece, Patricia Schlueter (James) and their children, Kathryn Trofka (Jeff), Matthew, Mark (Laurie), Paul (Wendy) Schleuter, Carolyn Bradley (Jeff) and Laura O'Connell (David); nephew, David Deming (April), and their children, Candace Bates (Josh), Anne, Nicole and Carolyn Deming; and a nephew Dennis Deming (Sandi), and their son, Janse.

Her religion was the most important thing in her life followed closely by her desire for self-sufficiency and independence.

The loss of her husband and son and a variety of health problems became opportunities for spiritual growth.

She embraced life with a wonderful sense of humor. As a faith-filled Roman Catholic, she was an outstanding role model in everything she said and did.

Friends may call at Resurrection Catholic Church, Hilltop Drive in Allouez, Wisconsin, from 11 a.m. until noon on Thursday, December 22, 2005.
