Dr. Benjamin A. Phillips

Dr. Phillips practiced medicine in the town of Matagorda in the early 1900’s.  He was a veteran of the Spanish American War and was a beloved doctor and friend to the Matagorda Community. His marker has a masonic symbol on it.

Dr. B. A. Phillips went to Galveston Friday to attend the cotton carnival, and from there he will visit relatives in interior Texas expecting to be absent for about fifteen days. --Matagorda County Tribune, August 5, 1910

Mr. Amos Adams happened to a mighty serious accident at Wadsworth on Monday morning. While doing some carpenter work he had the misfortune to cut off part of his thumb on the right hand. He was brought here immediately to Dr. Phillips but as it had to be amputated and two doctors were necessary he was taken to Bay City after Dr. Phillips had bandaged it up good to stand the trip back. Mr. Adams has many friends in Matagorda who will regret to hear of his ill luck. --Matagorda News, March 21, 1913

Dr. B. Phillips left Monday for a vacation in Houston and Galveston. --Matagorda County News and Midcoast Farmer, May 22, 1914

Dr. B. A. Phillips has returned from a brief trip to Galveston. --Matagorda County Tribune, June 15, 1923

Dr. Phillips died of congestive heart failure in Houston at Jefferson Davis Hospital. His address in Houston was 712 LaBranch in Houston. He  was buried in the Berg Plot in Section D of Matagorda Cemetery.

Dr. B. A. Phillips, who was a practicing M. D. in the town of Matagorda for a number of years, but for the past seven years has been a resident of Houston, died there, Monday morning at one o'clock. The present plans are to inter his body in the Matagorda cemetery at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon, Tuesday, unless his people decide otherwise. --Matagorda Column, The Daily Tribune, September 15, 1938
