Dr. Gober was born July 4, 1866 in Calhoun County, Mississippi to
Lewis J. Gober and Sallie Berry Mitchell Gober. He died March 21,
1940 as the result of a car wreck in Beaumont, Jefferson County,
Texas. He was buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas.

Dr. J. M. Gober, who is well known at Beaumont for his interest in the medical advancement of the city, is a leader in the field of obstetrics, and is one of the foremost professional men of the community. Dr. Gober has been engaged in the practice of general medicine and surgery for over a quarter of a century at Beaumont, during this time giving special attention to obstetrics, in which field he enjoys the distinction of being the leader in Beaumont. HE has his offices over the Service Drug Store, in the Langham Building, and has one of the largest practices in the city. Dr. Gober was born in Calhoun County, Mississippi, the fourth of July, 1865, the son of Louis Gober, a farmer in that county for many years. He was educated in the schools of Calhoun County until he finished high school, when he entered the Kentucky School of Medicine, where he took his M. D. degree in 1894. He came direct to Texas, going to Matagorda County, where he practiced for a number of years, establishing a large practice. He then made the decision to remove to Beaumont, arriving in this city just five days before the Spindle Top well came in. He has been accorded a substantial patronage here, and well equipped for any demands made upon hi professionally, faces even the most difficult cases with assurance and confidence. Dr. Gober was married at Temple, Texas, the twenty-eighth of December, 1898, to Miss Allie O'Brien, a native of the Lone Star State, and the daughter of Capt. O'Brien, one of the most prominent men in Texas. Dr. and Mrs. Gober have an attractive home at 1209 Broadway Avenue, and are the parents of three children--Edwin, Maude, and J. M. Jr. Dr. Gober belongs to the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association. Throughout the years of his practice here he has been a faithful custodian of the welfare of his patients, and is one of the most respected and generally liked physicians of the city. Beaumont, March 20.--Dr. J. M. Gober, 70, local physician, remained in St. Therese hospital today undergoing treatment for critical injuries which he suffered in an automobile accident here Tuesday. The physician received several broken bones a fractures skull and other injuries when his car collided with another at McFaddin avenue and Fifth street then crashed into a tree. Police and Lloyd Russell Robirson of China was driver of the other car.

BEAUMONT, March 22.--Final rites for Dr. J. M. Gober will be conducted in the First Baptist church at 4 p. m. today. The Rev. J. Ralph Grant will officiate. The 74-year-old physician, who died in a hospital here Thursday of injuries suffered in an automobile crash, will be buried in Magnolia cemetery. Pipkin and Brulin will be in charge. Beaumont physicians will serve as pallbearers. Dr. Gober, a general practitioner, had been practicing medicine here for 40 years. He was one of the first physicians to practice at Hotel Dieu hospital. His fatal injuries were received in an accident at McFaddin and Fifth street early Tuesday afternoon.
