Dr. Lane Barbour announced this morning that a reception will be held at the new Barbour Clinic and Hospital tomorrow night from 6 until 9 o'clock. The public is invited to attend the official opening. Dr. Charles Shoulz also has his office in the modernly-designed clinic. The clinic is located on Avenue G between Third and Fourth Streets. Inside of the one-story brick building is a neat and spacious reception room with walls of knotty pine, which was brought from Oregon. Also, the walls of the doctors' offices are knotty pine. The floor of the entire building is a tile made by the Uvalde Asphalt Company. Besides the reception room and offices for the doctors, there are two examining rooms, a clinical laboratory, an X-ray room, a receiving room, three bedrooms, an operating room, a basement and a utility room. The clinic is comfortably heated by two automatic gas stoves, which work on a time device. An attic fan has been installed to keep the place cool during summers. The clinic has space for a dentist and equipment. Dr. Barbour said that he expects to obtain the services of a dentist soon.

Funeral services for Dr. Joel Lane Barbour, 87, of Bay City, will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Dr. Barbour was born Feb. 18, 1898, in Glen Falls, N. Y., and died Feb. 26, 1985, at Humana Hospital Metropolitan, San Antonio. He graduated from Austin College, Sherman, and Baylor Medical School, Dallas, with training in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Barbour practiced in Bay City for 53 years and was chief of staff and chief of surgery at Matagorda General Hospital for many years. Survivors include his wife, Susan Louise Poole Barbour of Bay City, a son, Barry Lane Barbour of Bay City; a daughter, Dona Barbour Worrell of San Antonio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Mark Keller Poole of Bay City; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald Keller Poole of Bay City; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Donald Lane Barbour, Dr. Joseph Valloppilli, Dr. Ken Culbreth, Frank Kruppa, Russell Law, Jack Huebner, E. M. Huitt, Pat Boepple and Barry Gordon Barbour. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Bryan Simons, Bob Holbert, Harry Wirth, Dr. T. Gordon Smith, Francis Savage Sr., Dick Burford, W. Q. Keen, Billy Humphries and the staff of Matagorda General Hospital. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City. The Daily Tribune

Susan Louise Poole Barbour, who was the daughter of one of Bay City's pioneers, Thomas Jefferson Poole II., died Monday following a lengthy illness. She was 89. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p. m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Poole was the wife of Dr. Joel Lane Barbour, who spearheaded the establishment of Matagorda General Hospital and was its chief of staff. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1985. Born at the Poole Ranch on the Tres Palacios River on April 28, 1900, Mrs. Poole was the third and youngest daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Martha Elizabeth Keller Poole. Her father was a prominent banker and pioneer Texas rancher and cattleman. Her mother's family came to Texas from Mississippi in 1824, one of the first three hundred colonists to settle in Texas under Empresario Stephen F. Austin. The family participated in the war for Texas' Independence in 1835-36. Mrs. Barbour was instrumental in the creation of the San Bernard Wildlife Refuge in 1968, which comprised of 20,000 acres of the Poole Ranch bordering on the Gulf of Mexico in Brazoria County. The family acquired this ranch in 1916. It is unique because of its salt grass rangeland and is also one of the four flyways for its salt grass. She attended Hollins College in Virginia and was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Bay City. Mrs. Barbour is survived by her son, Barry Lane Barbour, and wife, Judy, of Bay City and her daughter, Dona Worrell and son-in-law, Tommy, of Brazoria; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Mark Poole of Bay City; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Huebner Poole of Bay City; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dona and Tommy Worrell of the Poole Ranch in Brazoria County; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry Lane and Judy Barbour of Bay City; a brother an sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Mark Poole of Bay City; a sister-in-law Mrs. Donald Keller Poole of Bay City; five grandchildren, Donald Lane Barbour of Brenham, Barry Gordon Barbour of Bay City, Heather Worrell of San Marcos, Sunni Worrell of the Poole Ranch, Brazoria County, and Todd and wife, Jan Worrell of Boerne, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Susan Poole Barbour of Bay City, Daniel Lane and Dylan Michael Worrell of Boerne. Pallbearers include Bert Huebner, Dr. T. Gordon Smith, Dr. Kenneth Culbreth, E. M. Huitt, Pat Boepple and Dr. Richard Johnston. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Tillman Daniel, Dr. Joseph Valloppilli, Dr. W. W. Bondurant, Francis Savage, Dry Bryan Simons, Judge John L. Camp and R. W. "Bob" Holbert. Mrs. Barbour was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lane Barbour, on Feb. 25, 1985. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City. The Daily Tribune
