The Honorable George Harrison, Commissioner of Precinct #3, discussed the available help from the county. Merle Ramsey, a member of the Palacios Volunteer Fire Department, helped in an advisory capacity.

The citizens of Collegeport voted to organize the Collegeport Area Volunteer Fire Department. Charter members were Duane Corporon, Mason Holsworth, W. L. Ellis, Gus Franzen, R. L. Corporon, Billy Halfen, Russell Corporon, and Dean Merck.

On June 23, 1965, the Mopac House Foundation leased Lot 7, Block 105 to the Collegeport Area Volunteer Fire Department. Anytime the property ceased to be used by the fire department, the lease would be terminated. A concrete block fire station houses the red fire truck.
