COLLEGEPORT SCHOOLS

The first attempt at holding  school was in a small tent about 10x12, dirt floor, one teacher and two pupils.  The Industrial League’s first order of business on April 30, 1909 was to organize a school district.  In 1910, classes were held for 6 weeks in the building occupied by the Gulf Coast University of Industrial Arts and the term was completed in the new Federated Church building with 80 pupils attending.  Classes were conducted there until 1913 when the brick schoolhouse was completed.  Classes were held there until 1947 when the Bay View Consolidated Common School District No. 26 consolidated with the Palacios School District .
