Mopac House provided the setting for a picnic lunch for a group of Tidehaven Junior High School students in the Spanish & Science Club on March 19, 2005 .  The group is involved with the Gulf of Mexico Foundation which is a conservation organization that monitors the Gulf of Mexico and the coastal areas that adjoin it. They were in Collegeport studying the watershed of the Tres-Palacios River and Bay.  The tour involved photographing areas along the river and bay and noting uses of the resources—fishing, boating, shrimping and also the wildlife and birds in the area.  G. W. Franzen was on hand to relate the history of Collegeport and answer questions about the exhibits in the Mopac House and Library.  The tour concluded with a visit to Oyster Lake where the students enjoyed the surf and sand.______________

COLLEGEPORT , TEXAS IS ON THE WEB!

Collegeport is included on the TXGenWeb site for Matagorda County .  The site is co-sponsored by the Matagorda County Historical Commission and Matagorda County Genealogical Society.  Carol Sue Gibbs of Bay City is the site coordinator, and has transcribed countless items to post on this site.  We invite anyone to share photos and information about Collegeport.  Thank you to all who have already contributed!  To go directly to the Collegeport page:  www.txgenweb.org/txmatagorda/collegeport.htm

On the site are newspaper articles, photos, histories, historical marker texts, cemetery lists and obituaries.  It is a gem for the genealogist or for anyone wanting to learn about our history.

Thank you Carol Sue!
