Dear friends of Collegeport, We cordially invite you and your family to join in celebrating Collegeport Day on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Mopac House. Our traditional BBQ dinner will begin at 12:00 noon. Please bring side dishes and desserts to complete the meal. Barbecue preparations begin mid-afternoon on Friday and continue until dinnertime on Saturday. Come and experience this tradition as well! Volunteers are encouraged to assist with set-up of tables and chairs on Saturday morning. This helps relieve those who prepare in the days and weeks prior to our annual homecoming from the last-minute tasks. Contributions to the barbecue fund or for other needs enable our long-standing community Collegeport Day tradition to continue. Please contact us if you or your family would like to participate in this way. Post cards notify those for whom we have no e-mail address. Please share this information with all of your family and friends interested in attending and/or being involved, in case we have overlooked someone. In lieu of a formal newsletter, please search the following link for information on past Collegeport Days: http://usgenwebsites.org/TXMatagorda/collegeport/collegeport_day.htm In the table below the photos, please click on any year in blue to view Collegeport Day information for that year. G. W. Franzen served as Master of Ceremonies and welcomed all those in attendance and acknowledged the hard work of community volunteers who worked to prepare the homecoming at the recent Collegeport Day, which celebrated the community's 106-years. "We had a nice day and a great attendance" remarked Franzen. "There were 230 registered guests counted and possibly a few who didn't register." Franzen thanked donors for financial support of the annual celebration which has been observed each year since the town's founding in 1908. Vanessa Potter, Interim Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Collegeport remarked on her first Collegeport Day experience and offered thanks before the meal. Palacios Beacon, June 11, 2014
