Approximately 225 persons attended the annual Collegeport Day Dinner, declared to be one of the best since it began in 1909. The barbecue was given by Mrs. Stanley Kubela and the menu was trimmed with covered dishes of vegetables, salads and desserts brought by those attending. Two reserved tables were filled with local pioneers and those coming from out of town. Local "longtime" residents present are: Mrs. Hattie Haisley Kundinger, Mrs. Rena Wright, Stanley Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nelson, O. G. Gabelmann, Jack Holsworth, Mrs. Margaret Holsworth, John Merck, Dean Merck, and Mrs. Dorothy Franzen Merck. Out of town "pioneers" attending the celebration are: Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Price of Palacios; Mrs. Mary Alice Pfeiffer of Cypress, Fla.; Mrs. George Welsby of Omaha, Neb.; Dale Welsby of San Antonio; Mrs. Lizzie Will Morris Smith, Bay City; Mrs. Susie Hoffman White, Bay City; Mrs. Kay Legg and Mrs. Viola Merck Legg of Bay City; Mrs. Jesse Merck Kilpatrick, Dallas, Mrs. Theora Merck McRee, Houston; Mrs. Bessie Merck Wilson, Dallas; Mrs. Elve Merck Martin, Houston; Mrs. Della Braden, Bay City and Mrs. Ruth Matthes, Blessing. The Collegeport Hotel Directory, an old Collegeport Chronicle taken recently from the cornerstone of the Federated Church, and old pictures were displayed in the library, recalling many happy memories of the early pioneers, according to Mrs. Dean Merck, a member of the Woman's Club. The Woman's Club sponsored the event, which hasn't failed to draw a crowd since its beginning in 1909.

Collegeport Day will be observed Saturday in the small southwest Matagorda County community to mark observance of the 50th anniversary of its founding.
The observance also will be the 16th annual day set aside for honoring early settlers in the community.
Highlight of the day is to be a barbecue dinner.
The program is sponsored annually by the Woman's Club of Collegeport. Only a few of the original settlers of Collegeport still are living, and very few of these still are residents of the community.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nelson, who celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary recently, are the only married couple left of the original settlers. Mrs. Hugo Kundinger (Hattie Haisley), Mrs. Gust Franzen Sr., Miss Margaret Holsworth, Stanley Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Merck (Dorothy Franzen) are the only original settlers who still are making Collegeport their home.
O. G. Gableman, Gaines, Percy and R. L. "Dick" Corporon still live in the Citrus Grove community, which has more or less been affiliated with Collegeport through its schools, churches and social activities. Ira Corporon, formerly of Citrus, lives with his family on a farm southwest of Collegeport.
More than 250 persons attended the observance last year. Ned Luce of Sacramento, Calif., was the visitor from the greatest distance. Even more guests are expected this year.
The barbecue dinner will be served at 12 o'clock. Guests are asked to bring vegetables, salads and desserts. Meat, drinks and bread will be furnished.
