Emmanuel Mission was organized in 1930 with Paul Siebenmann directing the work. There was no building in which to worship, so the first services were held in an old cotton gin on Eighth Street. Connie Anderson was the Bible teacher.
In January, 1958, property was purchased by In 1955 the mission added a kindergarten ministry to its program, with Lupe Delgado as director. She began serving on September 14, 1955, a position she held until her retirement in June, 1986. The Home Mission Board supplemented the salaries of "Miss Lupe" and the mission pastor. On February 1, 1989, the building and property were deeded by First Baptist Church to Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Paul Joseph Siebenmann 1930 Paul Joseph Siebenmann Paul Joseph Siebenmann, age 67, of 400 Kendalia, San Antonio, Texas, passed away April 23, 1971 in a local hospital. Mr. Siebenmann, a resident of San Antonio 35 years and born in Jerseyville, Ill., was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Mr. Siebenmann was a graduate of Shurtleff College in Alton, Ill. and a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth and founder of Mexican Bible Institute. Mr. Siebenmann was a missionary to the Latin Americans for the last 40 years; in addition he has been educational secretary for the Texas Alcohol-Narcotics Education Ins. for the last 20 years. Survivors: Wife, Mrs. Bertie Siebenmann of Ft. Worth; daughters, Mrs. Floyd "Marilee" Shockey of Chicago and Mrs. John "Lynn" Hall of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren. Funeral services, 2:00 p. m. Monday, Harlandale Baptist Church, 502 East Southcross, with Rev. Ken Coffee, Dr. Albert Rucker, Rev. Epifanio Salazar and Rev. Francisco Morales, officiating. Interment Mission Burial Park. Bertie Siebenmann Taught in Public, Church Schools Bertie Siebenmann was a dedicated teacher for 20 years in the Harlandale School District and was a tireless church worker. "She must have taught Sunday school and Bible classes for more than 50 years," said her daughter, Lynn Hall. She was also very dedicated to her teaching and made sure that her three children all got college educations." Siebenmann retired in 1965 after teaching at Collier Elementary, Leal Middle School, Terrell Wells Middle School and McCollum High School. During her career, she taught Spanish, English and world history. Siebenmann, 85, died Tuesday after a lengthy battle against cancer. She was a member of Bellaire Baptist Church and previously had been a member of Harlandale Baptist Church. Her husband, Paul, died 15 years ago. After graduating in 1924 from Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton, Siebenmann taught for five years in Fort Worth and then enrolled at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where she met her husband while both were studying to become missionaries. The couple moved in 1943 to San Antonio, where they founded the Buena Voluntad Baptist Church. "She really cared about people and was always doing something to help other people," Hall said. Other survivors include a son, Paul C. Siebenmann of Puerto Pinta, Dominican Republic; another daughter, Marilee Shockey of San Antonio; and 12 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 this evening at Southside Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services are scheduled at 11 a. m. Saturday at Bellaire Baptist Church. Interment will be in Mission Burial Park South.

Pastor Named At Mexican Mission The Emmanuel Mexican Baptist Mission announces a series of services beginning tonight and extending through Sunday the 22nd with Rev. Amando Virgen of Cameron as evangelist. There will be services each evening at 7:30 o'clock. The singing and preaching will be in Spanish, and all Latin Americans are welcome to attend. Rev. Virgen has accepted the call of the mission congregation and will assume duties as pastor April 1 [1959]. He and Mrs. Virgen and their two children will move to Bay City from Cameron will move to Bay city from Cameron after the revival.
