Nina Sicking Nina Sicking (May 8, 1950 - December 8, 2013) Nina Stephenson Sicking passed away on December 8, 2013 after a hard fought battle with uterine cancer. Nina was born May 8, 1950 to Charles and Frances Stephenson in Mt. Pleasant, TX. She grew up in Mt. Pleasant until her family’s move to Austin, TX in 1965. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and continued her education at Southwestern University at Georgetown, TX, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and an outstanding student. She received her BA in education in 1972, and lived for a short period of time in Clarksville, TN, where she taught in the Montgomery County public schools. Upon her return to Texas, she lived in Tyler, TX where she met her husband, Dan Christopher Sicking. They were married July 12, 1980. In 1990, Dan accepted employment with the South Texas Nuclear Project, and they have lived in Bay City, TX since that time. While in Bay City, Nina studied at the UT medical School in Galveston, and in 1993, received as BS in Nursing. She worked for a period of time at the Matagorda General Hospital, and later was associated with MEHOP, Matagorda Episcopal Health Outreach Program, a non-profit medical provider that serves the needs of the less privileged. She studied at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi and in 2011 received her Master’s degree as a nurse Practitioner. She worked full time at MEHOP until her illness forced her to resign earlier this year. Nina was predeceased by her father; her grandparents; Forrest and Vestacia Stephenson; John W. and Fannie Bethea; and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, Dan; her mother, Frances Stephenson of Austin, TX; three children Jeff Stanley and wife Kathy of Denton, Cason Sicking of Houston, TX and Martha Wiggers and husband Jordan of Miami, FL; five granddaughters Jennifer, Katy, Jan, Kennedy and Joy Stanley of Denton, TX; two brothers and their wives, several nieces and nephews and a host of loyal and devoted friends. Nina was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City where, through the years, she participated as a pianist, choir and hand bell choir member, church cook, Sunday school director, and other FBC Ministries. She taught piano lessons in her home for several years before her career as a nurse practitioner. She and Dan home schooled their children, who all went on to receive higher education degrees. Nina was loved by many. She was hard working, forgiving, selfless, and kind. She always had a smile on her face or a subtle joke to share and she was ready to serve anyone in need at a moment’s notice. She was a generous, committed, and loving wife and mother who will be sorely missed. Above all she was a devoted follower of Jesus and she lived her life to bring honor and praise to him in all she did and said. The fruit of her life is the evidence that she belongs to Jesus. Though she will be missed on earth, she is no longer in pain and she is celebrating with Christ in heaven right now. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City; 2321 Ave F; Bay City, TX 77414. Dr Mike Zimmerman will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Active pallbearers will be Tony Wells, Roger Harris, Gary Parkey, Don Burkhart, John Cerceo, and Rodger Ward. Memorial gifts can be made to MEHOP Benevolence fund at 205 Ida Ave., Bay City, TX 77414, 979-245-2008.
