Baldomero Fraza Acosta Final rites for Baldomero Franza Acosta, 50, of 1912 Avenue D, were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at 4 o’clock from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Shannon officiated at the services. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home conducting. Born in Mexico, Mr. Acosta had been a resident of Bay City for 32 years. He died Sunday in a Houston hospital. He is survived by his wife, two brothers, and 11 children. Daily Tribune, May 8, 1952 Estela G. Acosta Estela G. Acosta, 89, of Bay City, TX, died Sept. 4, 1995 at The Methodist Hospital Houston. Mrs. Acosta was born January 5, 1906 in El Palmito, Cameron County, TX to Abelardo and Maria Antonioa Gutierrez Gomez. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a resident of Bay City for 75 years. She is survived by five daughters, Esther Acosta, Katy Charles, Estella Silvas, Mary Ann Cervantes, all of Bay City; and Alicia Villarrreal of Corpus Christi, TX; and by five sons, Abel Acosta of Victoria; Anthony, John Gilbert, & Louis Acosta, Sr., all of Bay City; and Albert Acosta of Spring. She is also survived by thirty five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, B. F. Acosta in 1951 and by a daughter, Lucia DeLosSantos in 1972. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p. m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1995, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a. m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 1995 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris Cervantes, Louis Acosta, Jr., Randy Acosta, Ronnie Acosta, J. R. Acosta, and Danny Charles. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral home in Bay City, TX.

Miss Paula S. Alcay, 78, of Bay City, Texas, died at Wagner General Hospital in Palacios, Texas, on Tuesday, January 20, 1981. Her church affiliation was Catholic and she was a resident of Matagorda County since 1914. Survivors include cousins Refugio Moreno of Bay City, Texas, and Tivo Silva of Markham, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Thursday, January 22nd, at 10 AM with Rev. Joseph Shannon officiating. Interment followed in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, Texas. Arrangements were with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Alexander died Monday afternoon. Funeral service will be held this afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rev. R. E. Black of Markham will officiate. Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of Walker-Matchett.

Isabel Barron Isabel Barron, 91, of Bay City, Died at her residence July 14. Survivors include 5 sons, Ysabel, Franisco, Philomeno, Lucas Barron, and Joe Campos; daughters, Savina Barron, Dolores Garcia, Lucy Lozano and Tilda Campos; 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe, July 15 at 10 am with Father Clement Barron and C.P. and Father J. P. Shannon of Our Lady of Guadalupe officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at Bay City Funeral Home Chapel at 8 pm July 14 by Father Clement Barron and C.P. and Father J. P. Shannon. Services under direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Savina "Sadie" Barron Savina “Sadie” Barron Bay City: Funeral services for Savina Sadie Barron, 81, of Bay City were to be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Edward Boren officiating. Burial was to be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Rosary was recited Wednesday, Sept. 3. Born Aug. 29 1916, in Guanajuato, Mexico, to Hermenegildo and Isabel O’Campo Barron, Ms. Barron died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, in Vencor Hospital in Houston. She was a member of The Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Las Guadalupans, Word of Life and Woodman of the World No. 0168. Ms. Barron is survived by brothers, Ysabel Barron of Edna and Lucas Barron of Austin; sisters, Tilda Campos of Austin, Dolores B. Garcia of Bay City and Lucia Lozano, also of Bay City; nephew Joe Campos of Houston; and other nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Alex Jiminez, Lupe Arsola, Ray Garcia, Reyes Hernandez, Felix Quintanilla and Pasqual Martinez.

Rachel Becerra Bay City Woman, 20, Fourth County Fatality - Raquela Becerra - Rachel Becerra on marker A 20-year-old Bay City woman was killed, two persons were injured and Sheriff Jack Cole was involved in a wreck attempting to return to the scene of the first accident in a series of three crashes occurring in Matagorda County in a one-hour time span. Dead was Raquela Becerra of 1409 Grace, supposed driver of a 1963 tudor in a one-car smash 10 miles west of Bay City on State 35. Injured in the same crash was Marvin Davis, 30, a Bay City plumber who was removed from the wreckage of the car. Miss Becerra was thrown from the car as it hurtled across the south side of the highway 112 feet, hit a drainage ditch and flipped up and over, rolling and tumbling another 100 feet. Rites for Miss Becerra, the oldest of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Raquel Becerra of 1409 [Grace], are pending at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Survivors in addition to the parents are sisters, Juanita Hortencia, Esmeralda and brothers Rudolph, Victor, Amador, Gilbert and Richard. Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home and requiem mass at 8 a. m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The young woman, who resided at 1409 Grace, was pronounced dead on arrival at Matagorda General Hospital Wednesday evening after she was thrown from a car in a one-car accident on State 35 some 10 miles west of Bay City. Rev. J. P. Shannon will officiate at the services and burial will be in Cedarvale cemetery. Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raquel Becerra, three sisters and four brothers.

Louis Benavides, 76, of Bay City, Texas passed away April 10, 2008 at Matagorda House. He was born August 25, 1931 to Sebastian Benavides and Petra H. Benavides. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid domino player who won several domino tournaments. He was a very strong and independent person who touched all who came in contact with him. He was loved and will be missed. He was preceded in death by: daughter, Ofemia Benavides; sisters, Teresa Perez, Susana Vargas and Manuela Arias; brothers, George Benavides, Juan Benavides, and Thomas Benavides. He is survived by: sister, Margaret B. Carrion; special niece, Lydia Diaz, great-nieces, Maggie Monroy, Rosario Resendez, Christi Diaz, and Susie Brito; and his “angels”, Alexis Mayte Monroy & Karla Alexandra Monroy. He is also survived by: John Henry Benavides; daughter, Alicia Vargas; several grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Sunday April 13, 2008 with the Father Gerry Cernoch officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers are to be: John Manuel Benavides, Matthew Benavides, Danny Perez, Michael Perez, Ray Benavides, and Arthur Benavides.
