Kenney W. Stein

K. W. Stein Killed
Furniture Truck Demolished by Santa Fe Engine at Crossing Near Ice Plant.

K. W. Stein, age 39, employee of Taylor Brothers Furniture Co., was instantly killed at a railroad crossing near the ice plant yesterday afternoon when the pilot of a Santa Fe freight engine smashed into the furniture truck he was driving.

The accident was witnessed by several people, but it all happened so suddenly that information of just what did occur is vague. The crossing is near the intersection of the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe tracks in the vicinity of the rice mills, and is practically open. Evidently Mr. Stein was in danger before he saw the approaching train and realized it too late to avert the collision and death.

The engine struck the truck squarely enough to pick it up and carry it some distance. Mr. Stein was not mangled or bruised to any extent.

The dead man has been in the employ of Taylor Brothers for the past several months and leaves a wife and four children.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Methodist Church with interment in Cedarvale cemetery.
