J. B. Sutherland

Jim Sutherland Dead
Funeral Will Take Place in Bay City Tomorrow Afternoon

A telegram was received here from Laredo this morning bearing the sad news of the sudden death of Jim Sutherland, a well known South Texas stockman and a former citizen of Bay City. Mrs. Sutherland has only recently been visiting in the city.

Mr. Sutherland, it is said, never fully recovered from an attack of flu in 1918, and in the absence of any particulars, it is thought here that his sudden demise is due to that.

The funeral, the Tribune has been informed, will take place here tomorrow afternoon.

Mr. J. B. Sutherland

The funeral service of Mr. J. B. Sutherland, who died in Laredo Wednesday noon, was held Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Sutherland’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Erickson. A large circle of relatives and friends accompanied the remains to the cemetery for the last sad rite.

Rev. Knight, his pastor of Laredo, had charge of the service, assisted by Rev. Joslin, pastor of the Bay City Baptist Church.

The songs were beautifully rendered by a double quartet under direction of Mrs. Will Stinnett, and a solo by Mrs. Merlin Vogelsang.

The floral offerings were beautiful and one of the largest in the history of Bay City’s funerals.

Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Sutherland, of Alice; Mr. and Mrs. John Sutherland and Mr. and Mrs. George Sutherland, brothers of the deceased; Mesdames Young of Itasca, Chipman of Beaumont, and Eidman of Panama, sisters of Mrs. Sutherland; Rev. Mr. Knight and Mr. Patton of Laredo, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Hodge of Harlingen, Mr. Frank McGill and Mr. Emerson Sain of Alice.
