Effie Louise Riemenschneider Schurtz Funeral services for Effie Louise Riemenschneider Schurtz, 76, of Markham are scheduled for Monday at the First Baptist Church in Markham. The time is pending. Burial will be in the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Mrs. Schurtz was born March 31, 191, and died Friday at her home. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Schurtz is survived by a daughter, Betty Katherine Bradley of Markham; four sons, Homer W. Schurtz of Sweeny, James A. Schurtz of Markham, Robert Lee Schultz of Midfield and Carl F. Schurtz of Wadsworth. Also surviving Mrs. Schurtz are two sisters, Louise Golden of Pasadena and Tilda Wyscarver of Robstown; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Schurtz, Patrick Schurtz, Robert Schurtz Jr., Timothy Jackson, Bill Lacy and Garland Thames. Carl Schurtz Jr. and Joel Schurtz will be honorary pallbearers. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

James Thomas Shelby Burial Services For Victim Of Shooting Accident Held Here Burial services for James Thomas Shelby, 12, of Boling were held in Bay City at the Cedarvale Cemetery Sunday. Funeral services were held in the Boling Baptist Church. Young Shelby was killed when his brother, J. H. Shelby, Jr., accidentally discharged a .22 rifle while putting it away. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Shelby Sr., and another brother, Sammie, who is in the Navy.

Ernest R. Smith, 56, of Bay City, died at Matagorda General Hospital Thursday, February 19, 1981. His church affiliation was Baptist and was a member of the American Legion Post 11, and prior to his retirement was employed at Rugeley Motor Company.
Survivors include: wife, Leva Louise Smith of Bay City; daughter, JoAnn Wied of Angleton; brothers, Charley Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, Willie Smith of Pensacola, Florida, James Smith of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Carol Webb and Catherine Mills of Houston, Ricky Huffman of Bay City, Ronnie Huffman of Angleton, and Renae’ Wied of Angleton.
Graveside services will be held at Cedarvale Cemetery Saturday, February 21, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Gene Bynum of Baptist Temple Church officiating. Interment also held at Cedarvale. Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Myrtle Smith Mrs. Myrtle Smith Buried Sunday At Cedarvale Cemetery Mrs. Myrtle Smith, age 49 years, 6 months and 8 days, passed away at her home in Bay City Friday at 7:00 p. m. She is survived by her husband, Virgil Smith; one daughter, Madeline, and one son, Marvin. Funeral services were held from the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Sunday at 3:00 p. m., with the Rev. Marvin S. Vance officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Milam Sparks Funeral Services Are Held Monday For Milam Sparks Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Milam Sparks, 78, who died Saturday at Nome, Texas. The services were held from the Walker-Matchett Funeral Home and burial was in the Cedar Vale Cemetery with the Rev. Marvin Vance officiating.

Molly R. Sparks Mollie Rochester Sparks Mollie Rochester Sparks, 88, of Livingston, TX died February 3, 2004 at the Timblerwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Livingston, TX. She moved to Livingston with her niece Norma Humble in 1996, and was a former long time resident of Markham. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include: step-daughter: Audrey LaBeff of Victoria; sister: Rose Nell Sharp of Birmingham, , AL, 4 step-grandchildren; D’Ann Hurta, Cathy Thomas, Joane Zemanek and Carlton LaBeff all of Victoria; 12 step-great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; 2 nieces: Norma Humble of Livingston, Wanda McKay, and Debra “Crickett” Arnt both of Houston; nephews: Mark Rochester, III of Port Aransas, Marty Rochester of Houston, Roger Conklin of Salsbury, NC, Randy and Andy Conklin both of Calif. and Bobby Niemann of San Antonio; 4 great-nieces and nephews and 1 great-great-niece. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Beulah, Mickey, Maude and Mary and brother: Mark Nathaniel Rochester, Jr. Graveside Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 6, 2004, at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
