Pete Lucio Torres

Peter Lucio Torres

Now that my life is coming to an end, a director wants to turn it into film, an hour and 40 minutes long. Would I agree to play myself, exaggerating my nervous tics and suffering in some aesthetic fashion? I should no longer bend over to write poems on my knees; instead, my forehead must shine and my pen scrawl my name with a flourish in the sky, while my nostrils widen and a thousand mirrors do me justice. I insist, no profiles, please, no flattering grins. As for my books, whose fidelity I now find questionable, they’d better by signed by some other poet.

Bay City Man Shot to Death on Avenue M

David Wolbrueck, The Daily Tribune

A 380year-old Bay City man was shot to death Friday night following a fight at a party at an Avenue M residence, Bay City police report.

Charles Trevino Jr. apparently died of a single gunshot wound to the right side of the back, the detective investigating the case reported Saturday morning. The victim was dead on arrival at Matagorda General Hospital, where he was taken by private vehicle following the shooting.

The detective said Trevino and another man were at a party in the 2100 block of Avenue M when a fight erupted between the two. Trevino stabbed the man he was arguing with, then began fleeing down the street when the stabbing victim pulled a gun, the detective said.

The man shot Trevino once with what police believe is a small-caliber handgun, possibly a derringer.

As of late Saturday morning, police had not arrested or charged anyone with the shooting, but indicated they had the names of possible suspects.

Police said they did not know what prompted the argument.

The shooting occurred at about 11:40 p. m. Friday. Trevino was transported to the hospital emergency room via pickup truck, where police said he was dead on arrival.

Justice of the Peace Ray O’Connell pronounced Trevino dead at 12:25 a. m. Saturday.

Police have ordered an autopsy on Trevino’s body. The investigation into the shooting is expected to continue through the weekend.

Trevino’s address is listed as 2208 12th St., police said.
