Justo Acosta Jr., 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Justo Acosta of 1721 Ave L., met his death accidentally between 7:00 and 8:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Colorado River, just south of the highway bridge when he slipped… The youth was a student at the grammar school and was a carrier boy for one of the newspapers. He is survived by his parents, one sister, Teodosa and four brothers, Paul, Jose, Alberto and Manuel. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at 8:00 from Perpetuo Socorrro Catholic church with burial at Cedarvale Cemetery. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Linda Marie Acosta Linda Acosta Funeral services for Linda Acosta, 42, a lifelong resident of Bay City, will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church 10 a. m. Thursday with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. A rosary will be said 8 p. m. today at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Bay City. Miss Acosta was born Sept. 26, 1948 to Abel G. and Amelia Rodriguez Acosta and died April 29, 1991, in Victoria following an extended illness. She was employed by Houston Lighting and Power Co. at the South Texas Project. She was a lifelong volunteer in her community, serving many organizations, including KIDS, Crimestoppers, Matagorda General Hospital, the American G. I. Forum, the Education Committee and the Bay City Community Theater. She also served organizations as an interpreter. Survivors include her parents, Abel G. Acosta of Victoria and Amelia Rodriguez Acosta of Bay City; her sisters, Gayle Mireles of Port Lavaca and Amy Shortt of Oswego, N. Y. and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are John Gilbert Acosta, Louis Acosta, Salvador Morales, John Valdez Jr., Bobby Rodriguez and Henry Charles. Funeral arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Fred "Fringo" Alameda Fred Alameda Bay City—Fred Alameda, 48, of Bay City, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997. He was born April 7, 1949, in Wharton, to Belen Alameda of Bay City and the late Narcissa Gerra Alameda. He was an oil field gang pusher for Burt Construction Company. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors: wife, Connie Alameda; daughters, Hila Martinez and Narcissa Alameda, both of Bay City; sons, Homer Ortiz and Fred Alameda Jr., both of Bay City, and Ernest Ortiz of Palacios; father; sisters, Mary Gonzales and Eva Cervantez, both of Van Vleck, and Josephine Lopez, Christina Garcia and Genevieve Sanchez, all of Bay City; brothers, Adam Alameda, Frank Alameda, Albert Alameda and Belen Alameda Jr. all of Bay City; and nine grandchildren. A rosary will be recited at 2 p. m. Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel. Services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Lee Barron Funeral services for Arlin Lee Barron, 55, of Sugar Valley, were held at 2 p. m. Monday, Sept. 19, 1994, at the Bay City Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Guerro of Manville officiating. Burial followed in Cedarvale Cemetery. Mr. Barron was born March 9, 1939, in Yoakum to Arlin L. “Pat” and Gertrude Bembow Barron and died Sept. 15, 1994, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Billie French Barron of Sugar Valley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Brenda Barron of Bay City and Richard and LaQuita Barron of Ponder; two brothers, Kenneth Gene and Billy Wayne Barron of Delta Junction, Alaska and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlin “Pat” and Gertrude Bembow Barron. Pallbearers were Johnny French, David Neuman, John Gotcher, Drew McGinnis, Sonny Benedict and Bruce Waller. Raquel Becerra Raquel Becerra Raquel Becerra, 76, of Bay City passed away August 14, 1996 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston. He was born October 15, 1919 in Matagorda, Texas to Amador and Ortensia Rivera Becerra. He had been a resident of Bay City for 50 years, was a veteran of WWII, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He is survived by three daughters, Janie Martinez of Bay City, Esmeralda Gusman of Bacliff, Texas, and Yolanda Sanchez of San Antonio; by five sons, Rudy Becerra of Angleton, Victor Becerra, Gilbert Becerra, and Armador Becerra all of Bay City, and Ricky Becerra of San Antonio; by one sister, Janie DeLeon of Pasadena, Texas; by three brothers, Thomas Becerra of Boling, Armado Becerra and Frankie Becerra both of Wharton; by 30 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary P. Becerra in 1989; by two daughters, Hortensia Ortiz and Raquela Becerra; and by one son, Joe Ybarra. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Friday, August 16, 1996 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday, August 17, 1996 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Mary Frances Lovvorn Brannon Funeral services for Mary Frances Lovvorn Brannon, 74, of Bay City, will be at 10:00 a. m. Tuesday, July 28, 1998 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City, Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Mrs. Brannon died July 25 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas. She was born Dec. 27, 1923 in Atlanta, GA to the late Jethro Jackson and Mattie Ethel Await Lovvorn. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a resident of Bay City for some 50 plus years. Survivors are daughters and son-in-law, Kathy and Jim Holcombe of Magnet, Texas, and Carole Curtner of Bay City; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Susie Brannon, Joseph Arthur and Pattie Brannon, and Cecil and Sharen Brannon all of Bay City; brothers, Jimmie Lovvorn of Midfield, Ala., Samuel Lovvorn of Hueytown, Ala., and Robert Lovvorn of Dolthan, Ala.; grandchildren, Sarah Horton and husband Toby of Kilgore, Jackie Sue Longoria, Benjamin Brannon, Kent Morris, Krystal Kidd, Michael, Coy and Joey Brannon, Carrie Hope, Robert Curtner, and Mary Elizabeth and Yale Balcar; three great grandchildren, Randy Acosta, Jr., Jaycee Alizabeth Longoria, and Rebecca Lynn Kidd. Rex Oliver Brannon Funeral services for Rex Oliver Brannon, 70, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City with veterans burial rites to be performed by VFW Post 2438 of Bay City. Mr. Brannon was born May 18, 1920, to Richard Oliver and Elizabeth Carol Rice Brannon in Markham and died 11:30 p. m. Aug. 31, 1990, at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bay City and a lifelong resident of the area. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Lovvorn Brannon of Bay City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jesse Curtner of Bay City and Kathy and Jim Holcomb of Magnet; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Oliver and Susie Buffaloe Brannon, Joseph Arthur and Pattie Lee Brannon and Cecil Owen and Sharon Muirheid Brannon, all of Bay City; two sisters, Evelyn Walker of Wadsworth and Lotus Walker of Tres Palacios; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Brannon, in 1982. Pallbearers are Jack Brannon, Joseph Brannon, Cecil Brannon, Joe Sellers, Richard Sellers and Tod Buffaloe. A Rosary for Refugia “Maria” Mejias, 63, of Bay City, will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Mrs. Mejias died July 10 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston. She was born February 25, 1936, in Cuero to the late Roman and Antonia Garcia Perez. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a resident of Bay City for 40 years.
Mrs. Mejias is survived by: her husband, Manuel Mejias of Bay City; daughters and sons-in-law Diana and Ezequiel Ortiz of Fort Worth, Doris and Samuel Martinez of Markham, Sandra Mejias and Raul Cantu and Missy Mejias and Mike Cruse all of Bay City; sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Becky Mejias of Pompano Beach, Florida, Ray and Nancy Guerra, Norman and Arcilia Mejias, Victor Mejias, Freddie and Jolene Mejias all of Bay City, and Joel and Maria Mejias of Matagorda; sisters Josephine “Chepa” Chavez of Victoria and Nancy Gutierrez of Bay City; brothers Ernest Perez of Houston and Gilbert Perez of Bay City; grandchildren, Annette Saldana, Mark Solis, Sarah Guerra, Ray Guerra, Jr., Mac Guerra, Ignacio Mejias, Leon Garza, Jr., David Garza, Ezequiel Ortiz, Jr., Manny Mejias, Bridgette Solis, Michael Mejias, Susie Mejias, Christopher Ortiz, Erik Solis, Johnny Mejias, Rebekah McElroy, Manuel Ortiz, Richard Ochoa, Norman Mejias, Jr., Michael Barrera, Phillip Mejias, Isaac Barrera, Joel Christopher Mejias, and David Joel Mejias; and great grandchildren, Bianca and Niko Saldana, Alexis, Marcus and Nicholas Solis, Brandon, Daniel and John Paul Guerra, Kendall, Travis, Keely-Ann, and Dylan Guerra, Jr. She was preceded in death by her sister Petra Mata and two brothers, Natividad Perez and Socorro Martinez.

Xavier Lee Ordonez Xavier Lee Ordonez Xavier Lee Ordonez passed away Feb. 11, 2007at Aurora Baycare Medical Center in Greenbay Wisconsin. He was born January 24, 1007. Xavier is survived by: his parents, Lupe Ordonez and Melissa Martinez of Bay City, Texas; brother, Marcus Rodriguez; and sisters, Eliza Maria and Lisa Marie Ordonez; grandparents, David and Mary Rangel of Bay City; godparents, David and Erica Rangel of Bay City; great-grandmother, Maria Naranjo. He will be greatly missed by family members of Texas and Wisconsin.
