Captain John W. White Dies Here Friday After Illness of Months
Resident of County For 51 Years; One Time River Captain

Captain John W. White, 80 years, 9 months and 26 days, died at his home here in the city, Friday evening, at eight o’clock, following an illness of many months.

A resident of the county for more than fifty years, Captain White gained his title because he, in the early days, was captain of a boat that plied the Colorado River. The name remained with him throughout his entire life from then on and he was known and liked by hundreds of citizens of this and surrounding counties. Following the construction game later in life he built many structures in and around the county and his splendid work was a great tribute to this man whose sincerity and honesty he literally transplanted into any job he tackled.

He is survived by two sons, Adolph of Bay City and John of Houston. One brother, Newton H., of San Antonio also survives.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Rev. Rollo Rilling officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and fellow members were pallbearers. They were Tom Burchfield, John Harmer, C. O. Ruth, Bob Tillman, J. A. Williams and C. W. Richardson.
