Madge Matthews Estill

Funeral services for Madge Matthews Estill, 95, of Cedar Lane were scheduled for 10:30 am today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron George officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Estill was born June 3, 1894, in Matagorda County, Texas, to Rodney and Gertrude Green Matthews and died June 10, 1989, at Matagorda House, Bay City.

She married Henry Estill in the 1920’s.  She was a member of the Mary Rolph Marsh chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Cradle of Texas chapter Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Capt. E. S. Rugeley chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy and Cedar Lane Baptist Church.

She was a descendant of Isaac Van Dorn, an early settler and first sheriff of Matagorda County, and of Marlin Palmer, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Verna Lee and Jo Wyse of Cedar Lane; a brother, James S. Matthews of Bay City; three grandchildren, Roy M. Griffith, Joe E. Wyse, Richard L. Wyse, Steven Griffith, Mark Grisham and Lee Weathers.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

George Gelber

George Gelber, age 49, passed away in Van Vleck on February 16. A Van Vleck resident, Mr. Gelber is survived by his widow, Mrs. George Gelber is survived by his widow, Mrs. George Gelber; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Gelber of Markham; a daughter, Gwendolyn Lois Gelber of Houston; a son, George Jr., Mater AFB, Calif.; and a brother, Henry J. Gelber of Wharton. Services will be held Saturday, February 19 at 10:00 a. m in Taylor Brothers Chapel with the Rev. Howard Martin officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Watts, Bob Fitch, Sander Nelson, Lee Carr, Bob DeLeon and Harold Erixon. The family requests that donations be made to the Heart Fund. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Vivian Hooker Dies; Services Set 10 a. m. Wednesday

Mrs. Vivian C. Hooker, 1101 Avenue F. died Monday night.

A native of Bonham, Texas, Mrs. Hooker had been residing here for the past five years.

She was 77-years-old and a member of the First Christian Church.

Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery following funeral services at Taylor Brothers Funeral chapel at 10 a. m. Wednesday.

Survivors are a son, T. C. Jones, Bay City; a sister, Mrs. Luther Cox, Breckenridge; a brother, F. A. Campbell, Dallas.
