Janie B. Garcia

Janie B. Garcia died March 27, 1982 at the age of 64 in John Sealy Hospital, Galveston. She was a lifetime resident of Bay City being born here on February 8, 1918.

Survivors include a daughter, Lupe Quintana; brothers, Jessie Martinez, T. C. Martinez and Richard Bustos; sisters, Victora Mendoza, Conception Olvera and Marcelina Benevidez; and grandchildren, Albert, Theresa and Mark Quintana.

A rosary was said by Father Shannon at Bay City Funeral Home on Saturday March 27 at 7:30.

The funeral service was held at 11 am March 28 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. J. P. Shannon officiating.

Interment was held at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Services under the direction of Dick R. Elkins Bay City Funeral Home.

Cirildo Gonzales

Funeral services will be held for Cirildo Gonzales of Van Vleck, 10 am Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. J. P. Shannon officiating.

Gonzales died March 5, 1982 at his residence.

Survivors include wife, Anestacia Garza Gonzales of Van Vleck; daughter, Mary Medina of Houston; sons, Jesus Gonzales of Van Vleck, Stanley Gonzales of Levelland; sisters, Felipia Munes of Bay City, Mercedes Riveria of San Benito; brothers, Carmen Gonzales of Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Gonzales is a resident of Van Vleck since 1955 and his church affiliation is Catholic.

Rosary will be said Sunday at 6 pm at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow services at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Johnny Gonzales

Funeral services will be held for Johnny Gonzales, 20, of Bay City, 4 pm today (Monday) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Officiating at the services will be Father Joseph Shannon.  Gonzales died April 24, 1982 at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gavino Gonzales of Del Ray Beach, Florida; sisters, Thersa Gonzales and Victoria Sanchez both of West Palm Beach, Fla. Carmine Ronendez and Adelita Celia both of Del Ray Beach, Fla. Janie Salazar of Waco, Mary Ellen Reyes of Alice, Frances Zuniga of Beeville, Alicia Morin of San Diego, Josephine Vasquez of Bay City; brothers, Senovio, Pete and Agapito of San Diego, Jose Angel Gonzales of Del Ray Beach, Fla., Felix Gonzales of Houston.

Burial will follow services at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Sallie G. Millican

Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Millican have been scheduled for 4 pm Tuesday from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, followed by interment in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Mrs. Millican, born at Van Vleck and a lifelong resident of Matagorda County, expired Sunday in Matagorda General Hospital following an extended illness.  She was the widow of the late Cecil Millican. Mrs. Millican was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the Bay City chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Lone immediate survivors are a niece, Mrs. A. Perry of Cho Chilla, Calif., and two nephews, Paul Gregory of Fort Worth and Gordon Gregory of Cho Chilla, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Sam R. Sholars, Vann Simons, A. H. Wadsworth, Frank Hawkins, Harry Martin and John H. Lee.

Taylor Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alexander Perez

Alexander Perez, 8 months, a resident of Bay City passed away October 4 at his home.  Survivors include: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Perez of Bay City; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jose M. Perez of McAllen; 2 brothers, James and Alvaro Perez of Bay City.  Graveside services will be held October 5, Thursday at 2 pm at Cedarvale Cemetery with Father J. B. Shannon officiating.  Funeral arrangements under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

John Aldridge Rakestraw

Memorial services are pending for John Aldridge Rakestraw, 75, of Bay City.

Mr. Rakestraw was born June 9, 1910, in Crawley, La., and died at 4 pm July 25, 1985, at Rosewood Hospital, Houston.

A resident of Bay City since 1936, he was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Rugeley Rakestraw of Bay City; two daughters, Ann Catherine Roberts of Dallas and Pamela S. Rakestraw of Houston; a son, John Richard Rakestraw of Bay City; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Houston Hospice, 8707 Katy Freeway, Suite 103, Houston, TX 77024.

Henry Rugeley

Funeral services for Henry Rugeley, 82, of Bay City were scheduled for 4 pm today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating.  Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Rugeley was born Oct. 9, 1903, in Bay City and died Jan. 25, 1986, at Bay Villa Nursing Home.  He was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Rugeley of Bay City; two daughters, Deborah J. Winters of Lake Jackson and Kathleen M. Paulson of College Station; and a son, George Wayne Latimer of Corpus Christi; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Tommy Burnside, Mike Burnside, E. E. Hutson, Gene Gajdosik, Kenneth Etie and Glenn Stine.

Honorary pallbearers include Wilber Huffman, Sam Hurta and Barney Mason.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Diabetes Foundations or a favorite charity.

Charles Mason Smith

Funeral services for Charles Mason Smith, 69, were held at 2 pm Tuesday in the drawing room of the Bay City Funeral Home, with Rev. Leroy Land of the Church of the Nazarene officiating.

Mr. Smith, a farmer, died at Matagorda General Hospital after a lingering illness, and had resided in Bay City for the past seven years.

Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery.  Members of the Nazarene Church served as pallbearers.

Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Nora Davis of New York, Mrs. Florence Russell of Wayne, Pa., Mrs. Irene McClendon of Houston and Mrs. Carie Kennedy of Bay City.

Sigrid C. Swenson

Funeral services for Mrs. Sigrid C. Swenson, 69-year-old Midfield resident, will be held at 4 pm Thursday in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Leslie LeGrand will officiate, with interment being made in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Swenson died Tuesday evening in the Matagorda General Hospital.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Roy Jensen of Blessing, Mrs. C. R. Tweedle of Bay City, Mrs. A. L. Roder of Jasper; three sons, Carl and Clarence Swenson, both of Midfield, Oscar Swenson of San Antonio; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Trougatt and Mrs. Eleanor Middleton, both of Austin; one brother, A. G. Grill of Houston; and 18 grandchildren.

Johnie Lucille Tucker

Graveside services for Johnie Tucker, 57, of Bay City were scheduled for 3 pm today at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. 

Mrs. Tucker was born Jan. 7, 1932, to John Wesley and Pearl Jane Wilson Roe and Died Oct. 10, 1989, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeanette Gayle Brewer of Houston, Patricia Loraine Wilson of El Campo and Billie Wayne LeMaster of Old Ocean; two sisters, Evelyn Martin of Dallas and Oleta Stewart of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Roy Roe of Dallas and Bill Roe of Whitesboro, Texas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Wilford William Tucker

Graveside services will be held for Wilford William Tucker, 77, of Bay City, 10 am Wednesday at Cedarvale Cemetery.  Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Chester Sassman of Calvary Baptist Church.

Tucker died August 1, 1982 at Bay Villa Nursing Home.

Survivors include wife, Johnie Tucker of Bay City; son, Wilford William Tucker Jr. of Borger; daughters, Burdele King and Jeanette Brewer of Houston, Patricia Wilson of Bay City, Billie LeMaster of Old Ocean; brother, A. W. Tucker of Sweeny; 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild.
