Judy Mehrens Allen

Funeral services for Judy Mehrens Allen, 41, of Bay City will be held at 4 p. m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Leediker and the Rev. Leslie LeGrand officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Visitation was held Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Allen was born June 4, 1944, in Bay City and died March 3, 1886, at Methodist Hospital, Houston.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fellowship Sunday school class, Junior Service League and Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include her mother, Alma Mehrens of Bay City; a son, David Allen Johs; two daughters, Cynthia Allen and Jennifer Allen; a sister, Marilyn Dalton; a brother, Camp Mehrens; a sister-in-law, Cynthia Mehrens; and several friends.

Pallbearers include Steve Cooper, Mike Pierce, Bill Richardson, Travis Hicks, Lee Hall Pierce, A. T. Richardson, Russell Law, G. P. Hardy III, Sam Hurta and Mike Ottis.

Honorary pallbearers include Tom Ottis, Dick Bossley, G. P. Hardy Jr., R. P. Dawdy, John Camp, B. O. Nave and M. L. Hale.

Judge John L. Camp

Funeral services for Judge John L. Camp will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996 at 2 p. m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City, Tx. with Rev. Mike Toland officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m.

Judge John L. Camp died Sept. 4, at his home in Bay City. He was 93 years old and well-known in Bay City.

He was born in 1903 to Murray Camp and Kate Dasch Camp. He attended schools in Batson, Texas and Stephenville. He graduated from John Tarleton College, having received a scholarship for basketball and football – to attend Simmons College (now Hardin-Simmons University) in Abilene, Texas.

After graduating from college, he married Martha Pannill and then began the study of law.

Camp studied law under the guidance of his father-in-law, Judge William Pannill, attended law school at the University of Texas. On May 25, 1929, he was licensed by the Supreme Court of the State of Texas to practice law in all of its courts.

He associated himself in the practice of law with Lee R. York in Abilene where the two later formed a partnership. Camp was elected County Judge of Taylor County, Texas, and served in such capacity from Jan. 1933, to the spring of 1937. He resigned to accept a position in the legal department of Ohio Oil Co. which is now Marathon Oil Co.

In the spring of 1954, he retired from Ohio Oil Co. and moved to Bay City. He entered into partnership with C. R. Bell and George Keen. After Keen’s death, Lawrence Gwin and A. H. Furse joined the partnership. In 1964, Camp retired from the general practice of law.

Camp was a member of the Bay City Country Club and has been a member of the Board of Directors. He is an honorary staff member of Bay Villa Nursing Home, a director of the Matagorda County Community Foundation and is a trustee of the Doman Foundation.

He was also executive chairman of the Democratic Party for Matagorda County for years. He was an honorary member of Sons of the Republic.

He was a true Southern Gentleman and loved the Southern culture. He was a Civil War historian. Both his grandfathers were Confederate soldiers, and both of his great-grandfathers were Methodist circuit riders.

He was a member of the State Bar of Texas and was a former member of the Houston, Taylor County, Matagorda County and American Bar associations. He was licensed to practice before the Fifth Circuit of the U. S. Court of Appeals.

Martha Camp, his wife, died Aug. 22, 1979.

His survivors include one son, John Pannill Camp, of Fort Worth seven grand children: Pannill Camp, Martha Camp, Harman Camp, Jeanna Camp, Robert Lewis Warren, William Lee Warren, and Murray Williams Camp. He also had nine great-grandchildren and two double-first cousins: Alma Camp Mehrens and Marvin H. Camp of Reedville, Virginia.

Active pallbearers are Glenn Huebner, Mike Griffith, Camp Mehrens, John Dickerson, Jr., Andrew Weatherl, Bill Pannill, Taylor Steves and Pannill Camp, III.

Honorary pallbearers are Beadle Moore, O. B. Stanley, Mrs. Russell Law, Norman Brown, George Ayers, Bert Huebner, Dr. Ken Culbreth, E. M. Huitt, Bonnie Hendrick, Hoss Gwin, Hastings Pannill and Fitzhugh Pannill.

Mrs. Martha Pannill Camp

Mrs. Martha Pannill Camp, 77, of Bay City, died at Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston, August 22. Survivors include: husband, John L. Camp; son, John P. Camp, Sr. of Ft. Worth; sisters, Adeline Aycock and Caroline Wooten both of Ft. Worth; brothers, William Pannill of Ft. Worth, F. H. Pannill, Sr. of Huntsville; 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was a resident of Bay City for 25 years. Funeral will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Friday, August 24 at 4 p. m. The Rev. Milton McWilliams will officiate. Interment will be held at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers include: R. A. Gilbeau, Russell Law, Harley Savage, and nephews of Mrs. Camp. Honorary PB: B. E. O’Neal.

Buck Davis Dies at 75

E. C. “Buck” Davis, 75, a Bay City resident since 1933, died yesterday at Matagorda General Hospital following a sudden illness.

An active member of the community since moving with his family to Bay City with the United North and South Drilling Company, Davis belonged to various Masonic lodges in the area.

He was a member and past president of Bay City Lodge A. F. & A. M., Bay City, Chapter No. 315 R. A. M. and the Bay City Council No. 251 R. S. & M. He also was an active member in the Bay City Commandery No. 74 with the title Knights Templar and was a former worthy patron of the Bay City Chapter 380 Order of the Eastern Star.

His home church was the First Baptist Church in Bay City, where he belonged to the Myer Sunday School class. He participated in various church functions and activities throughout the years.

He retired from the Brewster-Bartle Corporation in 1959, where he worked as a tool pusher for drilling companies most of his life.

He worked for the first drilling company to come to Matagorda County.

Davis is survived by his wife Myrtle of Bay City, daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Joe Birkner, Jr. of Bay City and Joyce and Toney Carr of Palacios. His two grandchildren are Christopher Carr of Ft. Bragg, N. C. and Mary Ann Birkner, a student at Baylor University.

The funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church in Bay City Thursday, July 17 at 5 p. m. with Masonic graveside services and interment following under the direction of Bay City Lodge 865 A. F. and A. M. Pallbearers include: Paul Wakefield, Edd W. Reynal, Bill Sirmon, Ted Strozier, George R. Brown, Pierre E. Gordon, Ed Hibbs and Dr. Russell Matthes. Honorary pallbearers include: all Masonic Brethren, Myer Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church and Bryan Simons, M. D. Arrangements are made with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Myrtle Sanders Davis

Myrtle Sanders Davis, 89, of Bay City passed away April 18, 1996 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was born Sept. 6, 1906 in Luling, Texas to Wiley Marcus and Clementine Mercer Sanders. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years, a resident of Bay City since 1993, a member and past matron of The Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of The Book Review Club.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy and Joe Birkner, Jr. of Bay City and Joyce and Toney Carr of Palacios; by two sisters-in-law, Novell Sanders of Houston and Crystal Sanders of Luling; by two grandchildren, Chris Carr of Bay City and Mary Anne Harrison of Bay City; by five great grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Carr, and Stephanie, Stacie and Savannah Harrison all of Bay City; and by a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. C. "Buck" Davis in 1980.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p. m. Sunday, April 21, 1996 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman and Dr. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers include, Bob Allen, James Sowell, Doug Wells, Wallace Sanders, Ray Sanders, Jerry Sanders, Dr. Warren Criswell, and Stephen Harrison.

Scott Matthews Dickerson
July 17, 1926 - Sept. 12, 2010

Scott Matthews Dickerson, age 84, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by those he loved, on Sunday, September 12, 2010.

Scotty was born July 17, 1926, in Houston, Texas, but his family moved to Bay City when he was 10.

He was a Rice Buyer for Rice Belt Warehouse until his retirement. Scotty was an avid fisherman and loved playing dominoes.

Scotty was preceded in death by: his parents, John C. Dickerson and Susie Matthews Dickerson and sister, Ellen Jane Wilson.

Survivors include: wife of 59 years, Patricia Anne Dickerson of Bay City; two daughters, Mary Anne Johnson of League City, and Susan Dickerson of Baton Rouge; son-in-law, Mike Johnson; granddaughter, Shelby Johnson of Dickinson; brother, John C. Dickerson Jr. of Bay City; and many other beloved relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the First Christian Church, 3920 Doris, in Bay City with the Rev. Tom Quirk officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Percy Carroll, Frank Sliva, Dr. Barton Griffith MD, John Dickerson III, Bill Phillips, and Mark Dodd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ken Culbreth, Dwight Reck, and Gus Svatek.

Ernest Ellis

Ernest Ellis, 85, of Bay City passed away August 23, 1995 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

He was born July 23, 1910 in Dripping Springs, Texas to Howard and Mary Thurman Ellis. He had been a life long resident of Bay City and was a retired maintenance man for the Bay City ISD.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie Ellis of Bay City; by five daughters, Mary Medlin of Houston, Betty Yarborough of Vanderbilt, Lenora Janak of Bay City, Ida Curnutte of Wadsworth, and Kathy Andele of Point Comfort; by one son, Jack Ellis of Bay City; by four sisters, Hula Lijia of Austin, Alpha Calaway of Austin, Ruby Zimer of San Benito, and Viola Jeans of Bend, Oregon; by four brothers, Wiley Ellis of Del Rio, Vernon Ellis of Mississippi, Harvey Loyd Ellis of Oregon, and Wilber Ellis of Connell, Washington; by nineteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p. m. Friday, August 5, 1995 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev. Johnny Marvin Green officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mamie “Nannie” Ellis of Bay City passed away March 24, 2008 at the age of 94.

She was born September 13, 1913 in Nacogdoches to the late Levi and Nancy Summers Henderson.

She is survived by: son Jack and wife Tonya Ellis of Bay City; daughters, Betty and husband Jim Yarborough of Vanderbilt, Texas, Ida and husband Ray Curnutte of Onalaska, Texas and Kathy and husband Edwin Anderle of Point Comfort, Texas; honorary son, John Tweedle of Bay City; 21 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and 36 great-great grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband E. A. “Pawpaw” Ellis; daughters Mary Medlin and Lenora Janak and grandson Daniel Ellis.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Green officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Best, Jonathan Medlin, Dennis Ellis, C. J. Howton, Jason Burrier, Rick Janak and Patrick Anderle. All remaining grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Belinda Kay Emery

Funeral services for Belinda Kay Emery, 36, of Bay City, will be at 2 p. m. Saturday, April 18 at the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Interment will be at the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Emery died Tuesday, April 14 in Houston. She was born Dec. 30, 1961 to Claudia Sellers Jarrell and the late James Sellers in El Campo. She was a resident of Bay City for the past four months and a member of the Bible Truth Apostolic Church in El Campo.

Emery is survived by her husband, Glenn Richard Emery of El Campo; two daughters, Jenny and Amber Emery of Bay City; two sons, Bobby Henderson and David Emery of Bay City; her mother and step-father, Claudia and Milton Jarrell of Bay City; two sisters, Martha Jean Navarro of Markham, and Minnie Sue Wood with husband Billy of Angleton; a brother, Terry Allen Sellers and wife Anita of Victoria; grandmother Claudell Covey and husband James of Bay City; special friend Tommy Faas of El Campo; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many Christian friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Allen Sellers.

Bay City—Victor Garcia, 42, of Bay City died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000.

He was born Dec. 31, 1957, in Beeville, to the late Joe M. Garcia and Gregoria Rendon. He was a crane operator, a U. S. Army veteran and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors: wife, Maria Garcia; daughters, Victoria Marie Garcia of Bay City and Misty Segovia of Austin; son, Servando Victor Loya of Beeville; sisters, Andy Salinas of Houston, Oralia Coates of San Antonio, Dora Ramirez of Fort Worth, Hilda Stone of Dallas and Martha Glucek of Corpus Christi; brothers, Joe Garcia of Houston and Ernest Garcia of Bellville.

Eathel Ernest Gates

Eathel Ernest Gates, 74, of Bay City passed away May 5, 1996 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

He was born Sept. 14, 1921 in Riviera, Texas to James Isaac and Hallie Mae Kingery Gates. He had been a resident of Bay City for 12 years; had lived in Corpus Christi from 1951 to 1982; was a veteran of WWII; a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union #450; and a member of the Sixth Street Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Norma L. Gates of Bay City; by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald Lee Gates of Corpus Christi, Kenneth Wayne and Rose Ann Gates of Corpus Christi and David Michael and Katheryn L. Gates of Baytown; by four sisters, Serena Glenn and Virgie Denton both of Corpus Christi, Plynah Henderson of Pineville, Louisiana, and Marie Yancy of Magazine, Arkansas; by one brother, Richard Robert Gates of Corpus Christi; and by five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by two sisters, Rathie Weaver and Inez Gates; and by four brothers, Ollie Gates, Leo Gates, Lawrence Gates, and Alvin Gates.

Joan Loraine Treybig Starnes, 50, of Bay City passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 in Houston. She was born March 30, 1957 in El Campo to Elaine Carson Treybig and Ernest Harold Treybig. Mrs. Starnes has been a longtime resident of Bay City, and was a Project Controls Manager with Stone & Webster Co.

She is survived by husband: Richard Starnes of Bay City; mother: Elaine Treybig of Matagorda; daughter: Leslie Simmons & husband Vince of Tivoli; sister: Lydia Catherine Sterling of Mount Ida, AR; 2 brothers: Ernest H. Treybig, Jr. of Matagorda and Carson Treybig of Austin; 3 granddaughters: Megan, McKenzi and Morgan Simmons of Tivoli; 16 nieces and nephews; 21 great nieces and great nephews; Preceded in death by her father: Ernest Harold Treybig; 2 sisters: Susan Nell Rawlings and Sally Dorene Aaron; brother-in-law: Brian E. Simons; and nephew: Bryan Gregory Simons.

Richard Dophan Starnes

Richard Dophan Starnes, 81, of Victoria, TX passed away November 27, 2023.  He was born on October 8, 1942 in Shreveport, LA to the late Weaver Dophan Starnes and Mary Janette Ellis Starnes.

In his younger years, he was always up for an adventure. He was an avid cook and sportsman, spending his time hunting and fishing with his lifelong friends and participating in numerous cook-offs with his late wife.  Retired in 2006, he loved to speak of his many travels around the world during his career with Brown & Root, including trips to Dubai, Africa, Egypt, Afghanistan, and the Virgin Islands to name a few. He was a man of faith, devoted father, and loved spending time with family - especially his grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Joan Treybig Starnes; brother-in-law: Brian E. Simons; and nephew: Bryan Gregory Simons.

He is survived by daughters Leslie Starnes of Victoria, and Kelle (Stephen) Hill of Dallas; sister Glenda Gottlich; grandchildren Megan Simmons, McKenzi Simmons and Morgan Simmons; great grandchildren Jordyn Simmons, Alice Esparza, Olivia and Greyson Pena; nephew: Gary Simons; and nieces Lanette Paul and Laura Hudson.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Friday, December 1, 2023 at Nichols Street Church of Christ in Bay City.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM with Matt Springfield officiating.  Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Robert Austin, Jaime Esparza, Stephen Hill and McKenzi Simmons. Honorary pallbearers are G. P. Hardy III, Buzzy Ris-Due, and Gary Simons.

Raymond Stridde, 84, of Bay City died January 31, 2004 at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born May 17, 1919 in Gonzales, Texas to the late William F. and Olga Hinze Stridde.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a resident of Bay City since 1948. He served in the US Army Air Force during WW II, and was a Life Member of the Philip H. Parker VFW Post No. 2438. Mr. Stridde was a former Texas Highway Patrolman, and former Chief Deputy for the Matagorda Co. Sheriffs office for many years. He also was a retail merchant of oil and gas supplies in Bay City.

Survivors include: wife, Gladys Goodwin Stridde of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Therese and Michael Cristiani of St. Louis, Missouri; son and daughter-in-law, Rob Stridde and Susan Tobias of Bolder, Colorado; sister, Norma Zamzow of Live Oak Co., Texas; brothers: Edward, Oscar, and Herbert Stridde all of Three Rivers, Texas; three grandchildren, Katharine Cristiani of Hartford, Connecticut, Jeffrey Cristiani of St. Louis, Missouri, and William Stridde of Bolder, Colorado.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Young officiating. Interment with military honors by Philip H. Parker VFW Post will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chano Soto, Bill Howze, Elwood Stridde, Hart Chapman, Dr. Crayden Dennard, and Mark Dennard. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert, Edward, and Oscar Stridde.

Gladys Goodwin Stridde
(October 3, 1924 - January 3, 2007)

Gladys Goodwin Stridde, 82, of Bay City died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 in St. Louis, MO. She was born on October 3, 1924 in Laredo to the late Tessie and Tom Goodwin, the youngest of six children. Her siblings, Genevieve, Hiram, Tom, Trixie and Minnie preceded her in death. Her father moved to Laredo to help build the TEX-MEX railroad, where he worked as a master mechanic until his retirement. Gladys, known to many as “Cita,” (short for Mamacita) moved to Bay City in the mid-1940’s with her husband, Raymond, who at the time was with the State Highway Patrol. She was active in local community organizations such as the Bay City Museum. She held various clerical positions until she retired to pursue her love of antiques. She and Raymond opened an antique shop in her home and appraised antiques for estate sales.

Her husband, Raymond R. Stridde, preceded her in death in 2004. At that time she moved to St. Louis, where she died of complications from Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her two children, Therese S. Cristiani of St. Louis, MO, and Rob Stridde of Boulder, CO as well as three grandchildren, Katharine Cristiani of Boston, MA; Jeffrey Cristiani of Oberlin, OH; and William Stridde of Boulder, CO. Cita loved her family dearly and will be missed.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 12, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Fred G. Van Wie, Jr., 77 of Bay City, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Wharton, Texas. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Waco, Texas, to Fred Van Wie, Sr. and Mary Ellon Ward Van Wie.

He was a resident of Bay City since 1961, a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in World War II and a retired supervisor from Celanese Chemical Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City, a member of the Gulf Coast Shriners and Arabia Temple Shrine, and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Waco.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary Kathryn Van Wie, of Bay City, sons, Fred G. Van Wie III, of Bay City, and Gary J. Van Wie and wife Gina of Bay City; sister, Ouida Malone of San Antonio; brother, Joe Van Wie of Bay City; and grandchildren, Caitlin Van Wie and Douglas Van Wie of Bay City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Malone, Cecil Mask, Jack Brown, Dick Reitz, Waldo Hill, Dan Pharr.

Kathryn Van Wie

January 18, 1928 - July 09, 2019

Mary Kathryn Van Wie, 91, of Bay City, passed away July 9, 2019. She was born in Mart, TX to Berniece Phillips Webster.

Kathryn enjoyed a long career with Bay City Independent School District. She and her husband Fred were part of the Celanese family that came to Bay City in the 1960’s, and enjoyed many great times with their Celanese friends. She and Fred were also actively involved with the Shriners for many years.

Kathryn is preceded in death by her mother, and husband of 52 years, Fred Grey Van Wie, Jr. She is survived by Fred Van Wie III and Douglas Van Wie of Bay City, and Gary Joe Van Wie, Gina Van Wie and Caitlin Van Wie of Comfort, TX.

Funeral services will be 3:30pm Friday, July 12, 2019 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers are Douglas Van Wie, Bill Phillips, Brad Nauman, Doug Mathis, Ken Malone and Kent Pollard.

Julian Vega, 90, of Bay City, died May 22, 2001 at Sea Breeze Nursing Home in Bay City. He was born December 28, 1910 in Benavides, Texas to the late Valeriano and Epatacia Rodriguez Vega. Mr. Vega was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church and a resident of Bay City the past 11 years.

Maria Vega, 92, of Bay City, joined her Lord on Monday, April 23, 2012. She was born October 28, 1919 in Cortazar, Guanajuato, Mexico, to the late Maura Trejo & Adolfo Mendoza. Maria Vega has been a resident of Bay City since 1989. Her most treasured assets were her family and church. Maria was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her 2 daughters: Yolanda Hendricks and Teresa Williams; 3 sons: Antonio, Feliciano, and Jorge Colesio; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her husband: Julian Vega and son: Adolfo Colesio.

Berniece J. Webster

Berniece J. Webster, 91, of Bay City, died July 12, 2000 at Seabreeze Nursing Home in Bay City.

She was born Jan. 6, 1909, in Mart, Texas to the late Amon Parker and Erie Douglas Phillips.

Mrs. Webster was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, a resident of Bay City the past six years, a former resident of Dallas and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Fred VanWie, Jr. of Bay City; two grandsons, Fred G. VanWie III, and Gary J. VanWie and wife Gina; and two great grandchildren, Caitlin and Douglas VanWie, both of Bay City.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2000, at the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bay City.

William Thomas Wernly, 70, beloved father, grandfather and brother, passed away December 23, 2013. He was born April 9, 1943 to the late William Henry Wernly and Beulah Blanche Posey Wernly. He was a 1961 graduate of Van Vleck High School and served in both the US Army and US Navy.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Shrinda Love Annie Wernly. He is survived by daughters Kathy Martinez & husband Michael and Vicky Leblanc & husband Phil; son William Daniel Wernly; brother Timothy Wernly & wife Joy; sisters Jane Mathis, Julie Ham and Melissa Clegg & husband Doug; granddaughters Cassie Aplin & Cheyanne Kulak; grandsons Dakota & Jared Aplin & Blayne LeBlanc and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a hard working man all of his life, and now those hard working hands are at rest.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Harold Monroe “Hal” Wheat

Harold Monroe “Hal” Wheat, 85, of Bay City died July 4, 2001 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston. He was born March 15, 1916 in Houston to the late George Marshall and Ruby Odell Wheat.

Mr. Wheat was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a resident of Bay City since 1945. Harold was the former owner of the Carnation Milk Distributorship in Bay City and later was the owner and operator of Wheat Gulf Service Station for 25 years. He also was a member of the 100 Club, AARP and A.D.C.er’s, a member of the Bay City Volunteer Fire Dept. for 30 years, a life member of VFW Post #2438, a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army and was a former member of the Bay City Lions Club.

Survivors include; his wife of almost 47 years, Martha Jane Barnett Wheat of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law Diann and Jerry Spence of Temple, Texas; three grandchildren, Stacey Randolph and husband Eddie of Troy, Texas, Jill Spence of Lott, Texas and Jay Spence and wife Debra of Temple; five great grandchildren, Shelby Gielbunt and husband Adam of Temple, Zachary Hillard of Troy, Samantha Spence and Brandy Spence of Temple and Hannah Coker of Lott, Texas; two great great grandchildren, Keirsten and Austin Gielbunt of Temple; sister-in-law, Georgiana Joiner of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Gavendar.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev.s Pauline Harvey and Horace McMillan officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Funeral services for Craig Franklin Williams, 47, of Bay City, will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 3, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Howard Harper and Eulogist Loy Sneary. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

 

Mr. Williams died May 31, 1999, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was born October 2, 1951, in Wharton, Texas, to John Franklin and Jeanette Emma Berberich Williams. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and a life-long resident of Bay City.

 

Mr. Williams is survived by: his wife, Teresa Colesio Williams of Bay City; two daughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth Williams of Bay City; father, John F. Williams of Bay City; and brother, Rusty Williams of Bay City. Craig was preceded in death by: his mother, Jeanette Williams, on May 4, 1999.

 

Pallbearers will be Worth Lucas, Trey Lucas, William Ryman, George Colesio, Max Cruz, and Adam Sneary. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin McKissick and Mark Dodd.

Cecil Owen Williamson
(September 11, 1908 - May 30, 2005)

Cecil Owen Williamson of Bay City, TX, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2005 at the age of 96. He was born September 11, 1908 in Starr, OK, the only child of Leonard and Elsie Williamson, and was raised in Muskogee, OK, by his mother and grandparents after his father’s death in 1917. He was a loving husband, father, grand-father, and friend to many. He will be greatly missed.

Cecil began his 47 year career in the petro-chemical industry with Pure Oil Company in Oklahoma at the age of 18. He later worked for Philllips Petroleum Company, transferring to the west coast during World War II, and eventually settled with his family in Bay City in 1947 to help start the Phillips refinery in Old Ocean. He retired from Phillips in 1973 after a long and productive career.

Cecil was a active sportsman throughout his life. He was among Bay City Little League’s founders and was a team manager during its first season. He remained active in Bay City Little League and in teenage baseball in various capacities into the 1970's. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and of the Wesley Men’s Bible Class.

Cecil was married to Chloe Harlan Williamson on September 4, 1932,who preceded him in death on July 16, 1986. He is survived by their two children and their spouses: Michael O. Williamson and his wife Kay of Houston, and Shelby Williamson Estlinbaum and her husband John of Bay City. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Craig and Mike Estlinbaum of Bay City, and Jodi W. Matteson of Houston: and by five great-grandchildren: Kristin and Cole Matteson of Houston; and Drew, Matthew, and Shelby Estlinbaum of Bay City.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel in Bay City, with Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

The family would like to express special gratitude to the staff and residents of the Legacy Retirement Community for the wonderful love, company, and care given to Cecil during his final years. Deep appreciation for his care is also extended to Dr. Dane Simons, M.D.

Chloe M. Williamson

Funeral services for Chloe M. Williamson, 82, of Bay City were scheduled for 10 a. m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. W. E. Dugger Jr. officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Williamson was born Feb. 11, 1904, in Cotter, Ark., to William and Pearl Grimmitt Harlan and died July 16, 1986, at Matagorda General Hospital.

A resident of Bay City since 1947, she was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Williamson of Bay City; a daughter, and son-in-law, Shelby and John Estlinbaum of Bay City; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kay Williamson of Houston; her sister, Thelma Fix of Muskogee, Okla.; and five grandchildren, Craig and Julie Estlinbaum of San Antonio, Mike Estlinbaum of Bay City and Jodi and Rick Matteson of Houston.

Pallbearers include Harry Mallard, Ben Powell, Joe Van Wie, Pete Harang, I. Z. Dykes and George Short. Honorary pallbearers will be retired employees of Phillips Petroleum, Sweeny complex.
