Mary Mae Sifford Funeral services for Mary Mae Sifford of Markham were held Thursday, December 27, at 10 a. m. in Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel in Bay City with the Rev. Joe Ramsey officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery. A life long resident of Matagorda County, she was born in Palacios on August 24, 1892 and died Monday afternoon in Wagner General Hospital. Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Smudrick, of Bay City; four sons, W. W. Sifford and W. H. Sifford of Bay City, P. I. Sifford and R. L. Sifford of Markham; two sisters, Mrs. Daisey Holmes of Blessing and Mrs. J. H. Andrews of Bay City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Hall Sifford William “Bill” Sifford went to be with his Lord on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. Bill was born on Feb. 6, 1924 in Tres Palacios to the late Oscar and Mae Downer Sifford. Survived by daughter, Becky Lynn; grandsons, James, Trevor and Logan Lynn; great-grandson, Connor Lynn and numerous other relatives. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years Evelyn and a son, Ricky Gene. Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers, Nolen Garner, Ronnie Hornischer, Trevor Lynn, James Lynn, Logan Lynn, and Louis Kopnicky. Evelyn Louise Sifford Mrs. Evelyn Louise Sifford, 51, of Bay City, died on January 19 at Matagorda General Hospital. She was a resident of Bay City since 1949. Survivors include: husband, William H. Sifford of Bay City; daughter, Rebecca Ann Sifford of Bay City; mother, Mrs. John Hornischer of Houston; sisters, Mrs. Carol Gosch of Magnolia, Mrs. Norma Garner of Channelview and Mrs. Agnes Gray of Houston; brothers, John M. Hornischer Jr. and David Ross Hornischer both of Houston, T. G. Hornischer of Missouri City and Ronnie Hornischer of Sugarland. The funeral will be held at Baptist Temple Church on Tuesday, January 22, at 2:00 PM. The Reverends Gene Bynum and David Sutton will officiate the ceremony and interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Ernest Freeman, Dewitt Wilson, Robert Taylor, Gerald Ray Hanzik, F. J. Williams, and Willie Svetlik. Arrangements made with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

H. A. Swem’s Services Here Thursday Morning Services for Mr. H. A. Swem, 64, who died in the Newgulf Hospital Sunday at 6:30 p. m., following a heart attack, will be held from Taylor Bros. Funeral Home tomorrow morning at 10. Mr. Swem at the time of his death was vice president and general manager of production for the Texas Gulf Sulphur Company. He had been with the company for 36 years and for the past 27 years had resided in Newgulf. He joined the engineering department of the company in 1919 and since 1942 has been assistant general manager. He was named vice-president in January 1953. He was a graduate of Stanford University and before World War I worked for the Nevada Consolidated Mining Company in the western states and later in Chile for the Chile Exploration Co. During World War I Mr. Swem served as a lieutenant with the 106th Engineers of the 31st Division. He was a member of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers and Mining Society of Stanford University. He was also a member of the Episcopal Church and belong to the Matagorda Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. John McKee, rector of the Episcopal Church of Wharton. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be C. A. McGuire, C. S. Ferguson, J. W. Schwab, G. S. Riser, Dr. R. G. Johnson, F. p. Robbins.

Mildred Taulbee Graveside services for Mildred Taulbee, 93, are scheduled for 1:30 p. m. Thursday at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City with the Rev. Buford Finley officiating. She died May 22, 1994, at her apartment in Lafayette, La., A native of Caldwell, she moved from Houston over three years ago. Survivors include her son, E. O. Taulbee III; a daughter-in-law, Jean Taulbee; three grandchildren, E. O. Taulbee IV, Tricia and Joel Wittenbraker and Beth and Randy Mena and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. O. Taulbee Jr. and her sister, Mrs. George Vinson. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home of Bay City.
